h ardw are , and ins talling and running th e softw are . Th e Quick Start Guide
se rve s as a basic re fe re nce for th e D2 sys te m , but is not inte nde d as a
de taile d guide to ope ration of th e syste m . More de taile d re fe re nce
inform ation re garding sys te m ope ration and th e pe rform ance of acous tical

• Be sure to plug in th e Fire w ire conne ctor on th e back of th e Trave le r in
th e prope r orie ntation. It is possible to force it in upside dow n.

• If you w ant to pow e r th e Trave le r by bus pow e r, your com pute r m ust
h ave a built-in 6-pin Fire w ire port. You can run on bus pow e r from a
card adaptor, but you m us t add e xte rnal pow e r to your adaptor card.

1) Th e D 2 us e s th e de fault se ttings for th e Trave le r w ith th e e xce ption of th e gains of
Ch anne ls 1-4 (th e m ic inputs ). Th e se are se t to + 12 dB gain. Th e Studio pre se t
sh ould be in m e m ory of your Trave le r.

2) Th e se controls s e t th e m icroph one input gains . W h e n us ing th e D2 Studio Ve rsion,
th e gains sh ould be se t to + 12 dB. Th e 48V sw itch sh ould be to th e righ t, e nabling
ph antom pow e r to th e m icroph one s.

3) Th e optical I/O and ADAT SYNC IN are not use d.

1. Th e re are 8 balance d outputs. For corre ct output le ve ls , you m ust indicate
w h e th e r or not you are te rm inating th e outputs balance d or unbalance d. Th e re
is a 6 dB diffe re nce be tw e e n th e s e se ttings .

2. In norm al ope ration, Trave le r Inputs 1-4 are re s e rve d for m icroph one s , so th e
th e Input labe le d “5” is Ch anne l 1 on th e w in|RTA softw are ; input 6 is Ch anne l 2.
Your Trave le r w ill h ave a labe l to corre ctly ide ntify th e inputs as 1 & 2.

1. Bus pow e r from 6 pin Fire w ire conne ctor. Note th at m ost laptops h ave 4-pin
conne ctors, and th us are unable to utilize th is option. Pcm cia cards cannot
supply pow e r w ith out th e m se lve s be ing e xte rnally pow e re d.

2. Th e Trave le r can be pow e re d from s tandard ligh ting batte ry pack s
utilizing 4-pin xlr conne ctors (optional).

Ins tallation Proce dure

Firs t ins tall th e Trave le r softw are from th e MO TU cdrom by follow ing th is proce dure :

1) Inse rt cd into com pute r cd drive and click on My Com pute r to ope n th e cd.

2) O pe n "Fire w ire , USB2 Audio" folde r, th e n 32-bit fire w ire folde r.

3) D ouble -click on Se tup.e xe .

4) Five drive rs w ill be installe d.

5) Re m ove th e cd from th e com pute r and re boot.

6) Conne ct th e Trave le r and th e n turn it on.

7) Th e "Found Ne w H ardw are " w indow w ill pop up. (If th e h ardw are w izard doe s not
re cognize th e h ardw are as MO TU, th e n th e s oftw are m ay not h ave be e n installe d
prope rly.)

8) Th e w izard w ill ask "Can W indow s conne ct to W indow s Update to s e arch for
softw are ? Ans w e r "No, not th is tim e ".
9 ) In th e ne xt w indow , click "Ins tall s oftw are autom atically".

10) If you ge t a w arning th at th e drive r is not digitally signe d, click continue anyw ay.

11) Th re e drive rs w ill be installe d.

12) Configure drive rs by ope ning th e MO TU Audio Cons ole . Se le ct "Enable full W ave
support for le gacy (MME) softw are ". Se t Sam ple Rate to 48000.

Th e n ins tall th e w in|RTA softw are for th e AcoustX cd. Ins e rt th e cd and double -click on
th e Se tup icon. Follow th e instructions during th e ins tallation.

You sh ould ope n th e Config m e nu to s e t up w in|RTA for th ings such as nam e , data
dire ctory, e tc. Se e th e s oftw are layout scre e ns be low.

Th e Trave le r com e s configure d from AcoustX w ith a pre se t calle d "Studio". Th is
contains all th e ne ce ssary param e te rs for prope r ope ration w ith w in|RTA. Th e only
ch ange s from th e Trave le r de fault se ttings are th at th e m ic input ch anne ls , inputs 1-4
are se t w ith + 12 dB gain. Th is can be ve rifie d by pre ssing th e input gain for e ach
ch anne l once . Th e gain s e tting w ill appe ar on th e Trave le r dis play.

If you w ant to ve rify th at th e Trave le r is se t corre ctly, you can re load th e Studio Pre s e t.
Th e re are tw o w ays to do th is. Firs t, you can us e th e Cue m ix softw are th at is
autom atically ins talle d. From th e File m e nu, se le ct Load Pre s e t, th e n se le ct Studio.

Th e pre s e t can als o be loade d from th e Trave le r front pane l. Pus h M ix/Se tup. Turn th is
k nob to "Load Pre se t". Pus h Se le ct "[1]Studio". Pre s s Mix to e xit.
