IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

Your safety and the safety of others are very important to us. We have provided
several important safety messages in this manual. Always read and obey all safety
messages. Serious injury or even death can result if you do not follow these instructions.
All safety messages will tell you what the potential hazard is, how to reduce the chance
of injury, and what can happen if the instructions are not followed.

WARNING! To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury when using your

appliance, follow these basic precautions:

• Use two or more people to move and install this appliance.

• Plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet.

• Do not remove ground prong, nor use a 3/2 adapter.

• Do not use an extension cord.

• This appliance is designed for free-standing installation only. It should not be

recessed or built in.

• Use care not to plug into outlets controlled by wall switches.

• To ensure proper ventilation for your appliance, when installing, leave at least 4” of

clearance on the sides, at the back and at the top. Choose a well-ventilated area with
temperatures above 60°F (16°C) and below 90°F (32°C).

• This unit must be installed in an area pro tected from the elemen ts, such as wind, rain,

water spray or drips.

•

The appliance should not be located next to ovens, grills or other sources of high heat.
Keep it out of the direct rays of the sun.

• Disconnect power before servicing.

• After service, replace all parts and panels before operating.

• Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable items in the area of this or any

appliance, as the fumes can create a fire hazard or explosion.

• Use nonflammable cleaners.

• When replacing a light bulb, unplug the appliance or turn off power at the circuit

breaker or fuse box in order to avoid touching a live wire. For models with dial
thermostats, turning the thermostat to 0 (STOP) turns off the compressor, but does
not disconnect power to other electrical components.

• Never unplug your appliance by pulling on the power cord. Always grip the plug firmly

and pull straight out from the socket.

• Be careful not to roll over or damage the cord when moving the appliance.

• Do not pinch, knot or bend the power cord in any manner.

• Replace or repair any electric service cord that has become damaged or frayed.

• Unplug the appliance before making repairs or cleaning. We recommend that

servicing be done by a qualified technician.

If your electricity goes off, follow this procedure:

• Call your power company to see how long the power will be out.

• If service is to be interrupted for less than 24 hours, keep the appliance closed as

much as possible. This will help keep the contents from spoiling.

• If service is to be interrupted for more than 24 hours, remove contents and store in a

refrigerated locker or other refrigerator.

DANGER! Risk of Child Entrapment

Old appliances can represent a suffocation hazard to children.

• Remove door(s) from your old appliance.

• Leave shelves or baskets in place.

• If an old appliance contains refrigerants, it must be recycled by a licensed

service or disposal agency.

NOTES: 1. Model FFAR10 is suitable for storing vaccines, pharmaceuticals and other

temperature-sensitive materials. It can also store foodstuffs at an ideal
temperature. However, it is not designed for household use since it utilizes an
oversized commercial compressor.

Installation

When moving the appliance once it is indoors, grasp it firmly and tilt it back no
more than 45 degrees. Never use the door handle as a support. Never turn the
unit upside down or place it horizontally.

1. Install the refrigerator on a flat, solid surface so as to minimize vibration and
noise.

2. Allow the following minimum spacing to ensure adequate air circulation: 4” (10
cm) on each side, 4" at the back and 4" on top. Be sure that airflow under the
appliance is not blocked.

3. Choose a location where there is no heat source nearby. Keep the refrigerator
away from direct sunlight, ovens, radiators, etc.

4. Choose a dry, well-ventilated place that is free of corrosive vapors.

Before Using for the First Time

1. Wipe the exterior and interior surfaces of the refrigerator with clear, lukewarm
water mixed with a little mild detergent. Wipe dry.
NOTE: Electrical components must only be wiped with a clean, dry cloth.

2. Turn the thermostat knob to t he "3" position, then t urn on the pow er by plugging
in the unit. The compressor should start and the light inside the refrigerator
should turn on. Close the door.

3. Check the refrigerator 30 minutes later. If the tem perature on the back wall has
decreased noticeably, the refrigerator is working properly.

Operation

Temperature Control

1. The temperature in the refrigerator is controlled by turning the thermostat knob
installed on the interior right wall of the unit.

2. At the thermostat setting of “0”, the compressor is stopped and no cooling
takes place (although electricity still powers the unit). As the knob is turned
from "1" up through “7”, the set temperature decreases, with "7" indicating the
lowest possible temperature.

3. In normal use, the selector should be set to "3" or “4”.
NOTE: If the refrigerator is unplugged, has lost power, or is turned off, you

must wait 3 to 5 minutes before restarting the unit. If you attempt to restart
before this time delay, the refrigerator will not start.

Defrosting

The refrigerator defrosts automatically. While the compressor is operating, ice
deposits on the inner back wall; later, when the compressor is not operating, the
ice melts. Water drops collect and drain through the outlet in the inner back wall
into the drain pan situated above the compressor. There the water evaporates.

If ice forms on the inner rear wall, see Troubleshooting on page 9.

Notes

1. The appliance should be positioned so that the plug is easily accessible.

2. If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a special cord or

assembly available from the manufacturer or its service agent.

3. The appliance is for indoor use only.

4. Do not use the refrigerator to store volatile or flammable subst anc es like ether,

methanol or gasoline.

5. Do not set anything heavy on the top o f refrig erator or allow water t o be poured

on it.

6. The refrigerator should be connected to an independent electrical socket and

should be safely grounded.

7. If the unit loses electrical power, do not return power to the unit any sooner

than 5 minutes after the power went off. Otherwise, the compressor could be
damaged.

8. To save electricity, be sure air can circulate freely around the unit during

operation. Check that the packing base has been removed.

9. Be sure to keep the electrical cable away from the c om pressor an d c ondenser ,

or its insulation could be damaged by high temperatures.

10. To save energy, reduce th e freq ue ncy and duration of opening the door.

11. Do not use an extension cord.

12. If your refrigerator has a lock, keep the key away from children to re duce the

possibility of a child being locked inside.

16. If the appliance has reached the end of its useful life, before abandoning it,

remove the door but keep the shelves and drawers in place so that children
can not easily climb inside. The re frigeration system of the appli anc e is fil l ed
with refrigerant and oil, so when disposing of the refrigerator, keep in
compliance with environmental protection precautions.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning

1. The refrigerator should be cleaned every other month. Before cleaning, the

electric plug must be removed from the power supply. Do not use coarse or
harsh cleaning agents as you can damage the surface.

2. Clean the exterior with a solution of water and a mild detergent.

3. Remove the detachable accessories from inside the appliance and clean th em

with the water/detergent solution. Plastic parts cannot be put in the
dishwasher.

4. Wash the interior of the appliance with lukewarm water to which you’ve added

one or two spoonfuls of vinegar. Dry thoroughly.

5. Every now and then, wipe the condenser on the rear wall with a soft,

non-metal brush, or use a vacuum cleaner.

6. Wipe the inside and outside of the refrigerator with a soft, wet cloth.

7. Use a pipe cleaner to clear the defrost drain situated at the lower back of the

cabinet.

8. After cleaning, reconnect the appliance and reload the accessories and

packages.

If the refrigerator will not be used for an extended period of time
follows:

1. Disconnect the refriger ator fro m its pow er source by removi ng the plug from the
wall socket.

2. Remove contents.

3. Clean and dry the inside as instructed in the directions g i ven above for
cleaning.

4. Leave the door open to help prevent the buil d-up of mol d or unpleasant odors
while the refrigerator is not in use.

Replacing the light bulb

If it is necessary to replace the light bulb, obtain an equivalent replacement
appliance bul b fr om y our l ocal l ight ing fix ture or har dwar e stor e. Sw itch of f th e unit,
then disconnect the power cord from its socket. Remove the old bulb and screw
its replacement securely into the bulb socket. Plug in the power cord and switch
the unit on.

Troubleshooting

If your appliance is experiencing operating difficulties, check this list of problems
and solutions first to avoid the cost of an unnecessary service call.

Appliance does not work at all

• The power supply plug is not inserted in the wall socket or the plug and

outlet are loose.

• Power may not be reaching t he electric socket being used by the

refrigerator. This can be checked by plugging a light or any other electric
appliance into the socket.

• The voltage is too low.

Appliance is running noisily

• The appliance has not been properly leveled.

• The refrigerator is in contact with the wall.

• The shelves or other accessories in the refrigerator are in the wrong

position.

Appliance does not cool sufficiently or runs constantly

• The door has been opened too often, or has been left open for a while.

• There is not enough clearance around the refrigerator.

• There is too much content in the refrigerator.

• The temperature has not been set properly.

Ice forms on the inner rear wall

• The door gasket needs to be cleaned or replaced.

• The door has been opened too often, or has been left open for a while.

As long as defrost water runs to the channel and through the opening to the drain
pan on the compressor, the appliance will defrost automatically. If ice formation
builds up to a thickness of 1/8”, the unit should be manually defrosted:

Set the thermostat to the “0” (OFF) position and leave the door open. Never use
electric devices for defrosting and do not scrape the ice or frost layer with sharp
objects. When defrosting is complete, turn the knob to the desired position and
close the refrigerator door.

Water is leaking from the refrigerator

If the discharge water outlet is clogged, the defrost water drips over the channel
and water leaks from the refrigerator. Just clean the clogged opening with a pipe
cleaner or plastic straw. Manually defrost the increased ice layer.

If your refrigerator shows other symptoms than those described above, or if you
have checked all items listed as the cause and the problem still exists, then call

The following are part of normal operation and should not be a cause for concern:

1. Refrigerant surging through the system produces a gentle sound like water
running in pipes.

2. When the atmosphere is humid, the outer surface of the refrigerator may
be covered with moisture which should simply be wiped away.

3. During summer operation, the compressor and the rear condenser may
become hot enough to burn your hand.

ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

Within the 48 contiguous United States, for one year from the date of purchase, when this appliance is
operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product, warrantor will
pay for factory-specified p arts and r ep air la bor to corr e ct de fe cts i n mat er ia ls or workmanship. Service must
be provided by a designated service company. Outside the 48 states, all parts are warranted for one year
from manufacturing defects. Plastic parts, shelves and cabinets are warranted to be manufactured to
commercially acceptable standards, and are not covered from damage during handling or breakage.

5 YEAR COMPRESSOR WARRANTY

1. The compressor is covered for 5 years.

2. Replacement does not include labor.

ITEMS WARRANTOR WILL NOT PAY FOR:

1. Service calls to correct the installation of your appliance, to instruct you how to use your appliance, to
replace or repair fuses or to correct wiring or plumbing.

2. Service calls to repair or replace appliance light bulbs or broken shelves. Consumable parts (such as
filters) are excluded from warranty coverage.

3. Damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, acts of God, improper
installation, installation not in accordance with electrical or plumbing codes, or use of products not
approved by warrantor.

4. Replacement parts or repair labor costs for units operated outside the United States.

5. Repairs to parts or systems resulting from unauthoriz ed mod ific ations made to the appliance.

6. Expenses for travel and transportation for product service in remote locations.

7. The removal and reinstallation of your appliance if it is installed in an inaccessible location or is not
installed in accordance with published installation instructions.
