SILENTVANE 8800 Se ries fans shown herein are li censed to bear the AMCA Seal. The rat ings
shown are based on tests and pro ce dures per formed in ac cor dance with AMCA Pub li ca tion 211 a nd
AMCA Pub li ca tion 311 and com ply with the re quire ments of the AMCA Cer tified Rat ings Pro gram. For
air per for mance data re fer to cat a log C813.
The sound power level rat ings shown are in deci bels, re ferred to 10
dard 301. Values shown are for in let Lwi sound power lev els for In stal la tion Type A: free in let, free out let. Rat ings do not in clude the ef fects of duct end cor rec tion.
This cat a log is a sup ple ment to ACME’s FAN tas tic!
fan se lec tion pro gram and cat a log C813. Be cause of
speed and user friend li ness, sound power data
should be ob tained us ing FAN tas tic! if pos si ble;
how ever, equiv a lent re sults will be ob tained re gard less of which source is used.
Test set ups and pre sen ta tion of sound data
This cat a log is based on AMCA Stan dards 300, 301
and 210. In let sound was tested as in Fig ure 2 of
AMCA Stan dard 300 and was de ter mined in the
same con fig u ra tion as the air per for mance tests – In stal la tion Type A: free in let, free out let.
Sound power lev els in this cat a log are pre sented as
dB (deci bels re 10

W) in each of the eight oc tave
bands hav ing mid fre quen cies from 63 to 8000 Hz.
Also pre sented is a sin gle A-weighted sound power
level, LwA.

De ter mi na tion of Fan Sound Power
Sound power data are pro vided in charts for the full
range of fan speeds and se lected sys tem curves. A
con stant K for the op er a tional sys tem curve can be
cal cu lated for a given air per for mance de scribed by
fan flow rate Q (cfm) and fan static pres sure SP
(in.WG):

Ap pli ca tion of sound data
In stal la tion of a fan in the sys tem has an im pact on the
fan sound per for mance and a num ber of fac tors may
be in volved.
For ex am ple, fan, mo tor and sheaves dy namic bal ance can af fect the sound power in the first and sec ond bands. A sim i lar im pact can have a duct
con nected to the fan with out proper acous ti cal sep a ra tion.
Sys tem ef fects (see AMCA Pub li ca tion 201), e.g.
non-uniform air dis tri bu tion on the fan in let, can also
in flu ence the fan sound per for mance in the oc tave
band con tain ing the blade pass fre quency (BPF):

This method will give re sults within the guide lines of
AMCA. The math e mat ics is sim ple in the ory but com pli cated due to the num ber of vari ables that must be
used to ac cu rately de ter mine the sound lev els for a
given per for mances. For this rea son Acme has made
avail able the fan se lec tion pro gram FAN tas tic!®.
FAN tas tic!® will ac cu rately make all of these cal cu la tions.
