Hotels are facing a major challenge: guests expect superior in-room Internet performance on all their mobile devices. Without it, 40 percent of guests — nearly half — say it will impact their decision to return.1 To further complicate the challenge, more than half of today’s business guests travel with three or four devices2 — including smartphones, tablets and laptops — putting tremendous pressure on your existing wireless LAN. In addition, traditional wireless LAN
architecture typically creates areas where there is little or no wireless coverage for tablets and smartphones, forcing some guests to go to the lobby to log on to obtain adequate speeds. As a result, your existing WLAN can’t deliver the in-room performance your guests demand, threatening guest loyalty and revenue. While upgrading to a higher density wireless LAN that supports the needs of these various devices might solve the problem, it has been cost-prohibitive — until now.
With the T5 Wi-Fi over VDSL2 system from Zebra Technologies, you can cost-effectively deliver high-speed wall-to-wall Wi-Fi coverage inside every guest room in your hotel and expand your wireless network bandwidth to accommodate more devices — without having to install new or rip-and-replace existing wiring. Its unique in-room architecture combines with the ability to utilize existing telephone wiring to bring a new level of affordability to high-performance, high-speed in-room Wi-Fi services that will improve the guest experience — and guest retention. With our patented Adaptive Line Power technology and tamper-proof 802.11 wireless Wallplates, installation is fast and easy, with a minimal footprint in the guest room. There are no unsightly power supplies or cables that could be damaged or disconnected — and all network and RF management, operating power and client services are managed centrally.
The T5 SysTem components
TS-524: PowerBroadband Switch
Installed in the central telephone room, the TS-524 Switch is interconnected with the in-building telephone wire, transparent to the analog telephone already on the wire pair. The TS-524 provides up to 100Mbps backhaul data, along with Adaptive Line Power; a Zebra patented technology. Each switch provides device provisioning, status, statistics and RF management of the wireless Wallplate.
TW-510:
Ethernet Wall Switch
Delivers two 10/100Mb managed Ethernet ports and one pass-through RJ-11 port for analog telephone service.
TW-511:
Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n Wallplate Access Point
The TW-511 builds on the TW-510, adding a single, dual band 802.11n radio with integrated antennas. The TW-511 Wallplate delivers high RF signal directly where the guest is located –
in the room. The TW-511 also supports Zebra’s RadioShare Wireless IPS solution and WLAN Zone Location awareness for location based wireless services.
TW-522:
Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wallplate Access Point
This dual radio access point supports the next growth wave in the number of wireless devices. By supporting the new 802.11ac standard, the TW-522 increases the number of mobile devices that can reliably connect to the network and ensures compatibility with the newest wireless device drivers. Additionally, the TW-522 offers an optional Bluetooth® Smart transceiver that interoperates with the Zebra MPact Platform for Mobile Marketing, an indoor locationing solution that enables creative new guest engagement business models.

Easy to deploy
All three elements of the solution integrate with your existing technology and can be installed quickly and easily — no new wiring is required in your main communications room or your guest rooms. In your equipment room, simply connect the TS-524 Wi-Fi
over VDSL2 Switch between your existing guest room telephone connections and your PBX to deliver high speed Internet and IP data services. Replace the phone jack wallplate in one room with the dual radio 802.11n/ac TW-522 or 802.11n single radio TW-511 Wallplate Access Point to deliver wireless connectivity in that room as well as additional surrounding rooms. The TW-522 and the TW-511 also provide an RJ11 port to reconnect the in-room deskphone as well as an Ethernet port for a wired connection to an Ethernet-enabled device, such as a digital television. In addition, the TW-522 provides the option to add Bluetooth®Smart to support Zebra’s MPact Platform for Mobile Marketing, and indoor locationing solution that allows you to utilize your Wi-Fi and beacon wireless networks to provide your guests with a new level of personalized service. Last, give the surrounding rooms their own RJ11 and Ethernet port by simply replacing the phone jack wallplate with the lower cost TW-510 Wall Switch.

The T5 Wi-Fi over VDSL2 system eliminates these issues with its unique architecture that delivers in-room coverage at its best. Coverage strength inside each guest room is dependable, with no more “dead zones” or fluctuating performance levels that drive guests into other parts of the hotel in search of acceptable Internet connections.

The T5 Wi-Fi over VDSL2 system is the most cost-efficient way to deliver high-speed wireless Internet in your guest rooms. There is no need to upgrade your copper wire to CAT5 wiring to provide today’s guest rooms with the fast 802.11n speeds of tomorrow. Since the infrastructure in the rooms is installed by simply replacing the phone plate, the upgrade in the rooms can be completed in minutes with a screwdriver — eliminating complex and costly installations of access points in ceilings on guest room floors. With our unique line power over VDSL2 technology, the TW-5xx Wallplates do not require an in room power supply. Operating power is delivered by the TS-524 Switch. The result? Your new T5 Wi-Fi over VDSL2 system can be up and running in days, instead of weeks or months, and equipment is easily accessible for repairs.
Easy to manage
The T5 Wi-Fi over VDSL2 infrastructure integrates with your property-wide Zebra Technologies WiNG 5-based
wireless LAN. Just like the traditional access points installed in your lobby, restaurants and other central public areas throughout your property, T5 system infrastructure can
also be adopted and centrally managed by your Zebra Technologies NX 7500, NX 9600 or VX 9000 controllers. For sites using only the T5 system, all T5 access points and VDSL2 switches can be adopted, managed and queried from a single login console. Detailed query tools provides deep analysis of the network performance and client connectivity to ensure maximum network availability and uptime.
The snap-on TW-511/TW-522 Wallplates are tamper proof — there is nothing for guests or housekeeping to accidentally unplug. And the highly scalable solution can meet the needs of any size property — from a small single building property to a large campus style resort with multiple buildings.
