IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:

Read all instructions, including these important safeguards and the care and use instructions in this manual.

Do not use appliance for other than intended use.

The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Focus Electrics may cause injuries.

Always use grill on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface, away from any edge. Never use grill without drip pan in base. Do not use grill unless securely positioned in base.

Do not use glass cover if chipped, cracked or has deep scratches as weakened glass can shatter during use. Discard immediately. See Replacement Part section in this booklet on how to obtain a replacement.

Do not operate when the appliance is not working properly or when it has been damaged in any manner. For service information see warranty page.

Do not attempt to repair this appliance yourself.

For household use only.

To prevent burns or other personal injuries to children, read and follow all instructions and warnings.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE AROUND CHILDREN

Close supervision is necessary when this appliance is used by or near children.

Do not allow cord to hang over any edge where a child can reach it. Arrange cord to avoid pulling, tripping or entanglement.

2

To prevent electrical shock, personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.

ELECTRICITY PRECAUTIONS

To protect against electric shock, do not immerse cord, plugs, or other electric parts in water or other liquids.

Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug.

Do not use this appliance outdoors.

Do not plug cord into wall outlet unless control is set to “OFF” position.

Always turn control to “OFF” and unplug the appliance from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow unit to cool completely before putting or taking off parts and before cleaning.

A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.

Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled by children or tripped over.

This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

Do not use an outlet or extension cord if the plug fits loosely or if the outlet or extension cord feels hot.

Keep the cord away from hot parts of the appliance and hot surfaces during operation.

3

To prevent burns, personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.

HEAT PRECAUTIONS

Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handle and knobs where provided. Use hot pads or oven mitts if you lift or carry the cover when it is hot.

Do not move an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.

Lift cover slowly, directing steam away from you.

Set cover on hot pad, trivet or other heat protective surface. Do not set hot cover directly on the counter, table or other surface.

Do not use this appliance or the cover on the stovetop, under the broiler, in the freezer, or in the oven.

Do not place the glass cover in the microwave oven as it has a metal ring.

Do not touch the metal probe on the plug or let it touch any surface after use, as it will be hot.

Follow the assembly directions below to properly assemble the cover knob before use. Do not use the cover without the cover knob properly assembled to the topside of the cover.

Parts Included:

Tool Required:

Cover Knob

Common Phillips screwdriver

Disc

Phillips screw with washer and plastic sleeve attached. 4

Cover Knob Assembly:

1.Position the disc and cover knob on the topside of the cover aligning the hole in the disc and cover knob with the hole in the cover.

2.Insert the screw with the washer and plastic sleeve attached, through the cover

hole into the knob. Tighten with a screwdriver until secured. Do not over tighten to prevent stripping of threads. Do not use the cover without the cover knob attached.

Grill Assembly:

Always use the grill on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface, away from any edge. Never use the grill without the drip pan in base. Do not use the grill unless securely positioned in the base.

1.Place the drip pan in to the base. Fill the drip pan with water to the maximum water level line, about 3 cups.

2.Position the grill on to the base with the handles in the recessed areas of the base. The grill may be positioned with the control to the left or right end of the base.

3.With the heat control set at the “OFF” position, plug the cord into a 120 volt, AC electrical outlet only.

4.Preheat the grill, uncovered, at the recommended setting for the food being cooked. Refer to the grilling chart in this

manual or on the handle for selecting the heat setting and grilling times.

5.When the signal light on the heat control goes out indicating the grilling temperature has been reached, add the food. If desired, the cover may be placed on the grill to shorten the cooking time and help contain spatters. The heat may be increased or decreased, depending upon personal preference and the type or amount of food being prepared. The signal light will go on and off periodically to indicate the proper temperature is being maintained.

6.Use hot pads when handling the grill and cover as the handles become warm. For turning food, nylon, plastic or wooden cooking tools are recommended for use on the non-stick surface. Do not use sharp edged cooking tools or knives.

7.When grilling is completed, set the heat control at “WARM” for serving, or set the dial at “OFF” if food will be removed immediately from the grill. After the dial is set to “OFF,” unplug the cord from the wall outlet. Let the grill cool completely before removing the heat control.

8.Unplug the cord from the electrical outlet after use and allow the grill to cool completely before cleaning.

9.Do not allow children to use the grill or be around the grill, as the outside surfaces of the grill are hot during use.

5

CLEANING YOUR HEALTH GRILL

1.After using the grill, allow it to cool completely before cleaning.

2.Remove the heat control. Lift the grill out of the base using the handles. Carefully lift the drip pan out of the base. Dispose of any liquid in the drip pan.

3.Wash the base, drip pan, cover, and grill in warm, soapy water using a non-metal cleaning pad. Do not use metal scouring pads or harsh scouring powders. A soft bristled brush may be used to clean the underside of the grill. After washing, rinse and dry. Be careful not to drop the cover. The drip pan, grill, and cover may be cleaned in an automatic dishwasher. Position the pieces in the dishwasher so they do not touch

one another or other objects being washed. DO NOT PUT THE PLASTIC

BASE IN THE DISHWASHER, AS WARPAGE WILL OCCUR.

GRILLING TIPS

Always use the grill on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface with the drip pan and grill securely positioned in base.

Some smoke and/or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of oils – this is normal.

Always place water in the drip pan to the maximum water level line to help reduce smoking and make clean up easier.

Always use hot pads when handling the grill as handles and grill become hot during use.

Begin grilling at the recommended heat setting. Adjust the heat setting if needed during cooking.

The heat control dial can be set at “LO”, “MED”, “HI” or in between for grilling or at “WARM” for serving. Approximate temperatures of each setting are “WARM” (180°F), “LO” (250°F), “MED” (325°F) and “HI” (375°F).

Use the solid end of the grill to fry eggs, hash browns, grill pancakes, French toast, sandwiches, vegetables, or warm buns. Brush vegetables with olive oil or vegetable oil for an attractive appearance.

Tender cuts of meat are best for grilling; to tenderize less tender cuts of meat, marinate before grilling.

Fish and seafood may be basted with melted butter or a flavored butter during grilling.

For best results, use tongs to turn meats to avoid piercing the skin. Use a wide spatula to turn fish, steaks, hamburgers, etc.

If using a barbecue sauce, baste meat during the last 5 minutes of grilling.
