When talking about country superstar Brad Paisley, it’s a sure thing
that people will all agree on one thing. He has incredible tone.
Brad has a long relationship with Wampler products. We’ve all heard
the story of how years ago Brian threw a pedal up on the stage that
led to Brad ‘discovering’ us, but until the release of the Paisley Drive
Deluxe, the other half of Brad’s secret recipe of Wampler tone has
been unavailable to buy new. As well as the standard Paisley Drive,
Brad has ALWAYS been a huge fan, and prolific user, of a limited
edition pedal Brian released around 10 years ago called the Underdog.
After years and years of seeing Brad having an UnderDog in his live
rig, and him buying every one he could find as backup - We, as in
Brad and us, decided it was about time to consolidate the two
pedals into the ultimate Wampler/Paisley tone machine, the Paisley
Drive Deluxe, or as it’s become affectionately known by Brad as the
“Paisley Dog”.
In channel 1 you have a ‘v2’ Underdog, exactly to Brads specs,
complete with a switchable gain boost and full 3 band active EQ. In
channel 2 you have a refined original Paisley Drive. With extensive
routing options (first seen in the Tom Quayle Dual Fusion) you have
an incredibly versatile dual overdrive that can slot in any rig, for any
genre of music, with complete control for the player.
To get the most out of your new pedal, you'll want to become very
familiar with the controls. The Paisley Drive Deluxe features 7 adjustment knobs and 3 switches, spread over both channels allowing for a
great deal of flexibility. With a twang-friendly single coil guitar, you
can get anything from fatter cleans to some rocking drive. With a
more aggressive axe, there's enough dirt on tap to get into more
than a little bit of grinding distortion.. And regardless of your gain
needs, the extreme flexibility of the EQ in this pedal makes it outrageously good. We'll go over each set of controls in detail, and offer
some suggestions that will give you a great tone so you don't have
to start from scratch unless you want to.

Bypass Switches – Simple enough, these footswitches are wired to relay based true bypass switches to ensure
that you don't have anything in the way when you disable the pedal. Stomp on them to turn either channel on,
and the LED indicator light will show that it's active. c1 is red, c2 is blue.
Level – These control the output of each channel. They work just like the volume knob on your guitar or your
amp. As you raise the Gain knob, and depending on how you adjust the EQ controls and switches, you may
need to raise or lower this to have the same output level. That's perfectly normal. Whether you prefer a boost
when you kick your overdrive on or just about the same level as your clean tone, there should be enough range
of adjustment to suit all tastes. It isn't a super loud pedal, so if you're using a very high output guitar, you
might need to raise the volume fairly high – again, that's normal, so long as the pedal can hit unity gain (same
level when you kick it on as when it's bypassed) it's behaving as expected.
Gain – This controls how much dirt you get from each channel. Each channel has its own personality so the best
thing you can do is dig in a see what is best for you, you’ll VOICING switches, and also how the EQ is set...
Tone/EQ - how you want that channel to sound - start at noon for each and then as you increase the gain tailor
the EQ as you want to hear it, the amount of versatility this feature gives you makes that side of the pedal
alone quite remarkable. c2 features a tone control perfectly placed to give you a large scope for various tones,
don’t forget, the switches on the side will change the character of the gain so you’ll need to tweak the EQ if
you change that!
Fat Switch - This applies extra gain and depth to c1 only, there is a slight EQ shape change as well - c1 is quite
‘gainy’ as it is, but this switch can and will send you into rock territory!
Voicing Switch - This changes the EQ shape of c2. When ‘out’, it’s got quite a prominet mid hump and when ‘in’
it’s more scooped. Two classic Brad tones, right there.
Suggested Settings
Gainy, powerful... A little like “Grey Goose
Chase” - c1 only - Your guitars volume pot
Classic Paisley mid hump, "Waitin’
on a Woman” - c2 only
Powerful, ride the volume, “Limes”... c1 only Again, it’s all in your guitars volume pot
When you are falling over the “Cliffs of
Rock City”
Choosing “stacked” vs. “separate” channel switching - The toggle switch has 3 settings: 2>1, Separate, and
1>2.Looking at the top of the pedal, the input jacks are on the right side (with an arrow pointing towards the
knobs) and the output jacks are on the left side (with an arrow pointing away from the
knobs). C1 means
“channel 1” and C2 means “channel 2” on the jacks. When in 2>1 mode and both channels are “on”, the guitar is
routed into channel 2, then channel 1. The input cable from the guitar needs to be moved to the “C2” input
jack, and the output cable to the amp needs to be moved to “C1” output jack. When in and both channels are
“on”, the guitar is routed into channel 1, then channel 2. The input cable from the guitar needs to be moved to
the “C1” input jack and the output cable to the amp needs to be moved to the “C2” output jack. When the
toggle is in the middle it is in “separate” mode, and the pedal can be used as two individual pedals, both with
