Release lever T10039
Instrument panel, removing and installin
Removing
- Set parking brake.
- If vehicle has manual transmission, select 2nd gear.
- If vehicle has automatic transmission, select rearmost driving range position.
- Remove driver airbag unit 69-4, Driver airbag unit,
removing and installing
- Remove steering wheel 69-4, Steering wheel,
removing and installing
- Remove steering column trim 68-2, Steering column
trim, removing and installing
- Remove side instrument panel covers 68-2, Instrument
panel side covers, removing and installing .
- Remove footwell covers 68-2, Footwell covers,
removing and installing
- Remove instrument panel hood 68-2, Instrument panel
hood, removing and installing
- Remove upper A-pillar trim 70-4, Upper A-pillar trim,
removing and installing

- For vehicles without navigation or radio, pry radio block-off cover bracket using Wedge T10039/1 .
- If radio

:
For a better overview, lock washer
partially removed in illustration. When installed, lock washer is accessible through radio opening, but not visible.
- Reach through radio opening and determine by touch if trim possesses a threaded pin

- Reaching through radio opening, use a small screwdriver to pry wings lock washer washer

must be replaced for assembly.

If vehicle was equipped with trim without a threaded
pin and lock washer and trim is exchanged for replacement trim with a threaded pin and lock washer, securing clip in area of threaded pin must be removed before assembly.
Check if middle of trim is equipped with a securing
clip in area of threaded pin. If not, a securing clip must be supplemented at this position.
After installing trim
in illustrated position until it is pressed against

- Pry trim strip
out of mounting

using wedge T10039/1 and detach adjusting wheel
from trim strip.

- Disconnect adjusting wheel housing
from wiring harness if vehicle has vent illumination.
- Using a small screwdriver, push latch mechanism travel and remove ignition key.

- Pry trim strip using wedge T10039/1 and detach adjusting wheel
- Disconnect adjusting wheel housing from wiring harness if vehicle has vent illumination.

When frame is being installed, bolts must be

- Remove frame

panel and disconnect wiring harnesses (depending on vehicle equipment) from switch strip.
- Remove 2 bolts above steering column
and remove cover

- Remove trim mat

When driver side trim is being installed, bolts must

from instrument panel and disconnect Bowden cable from parking brake
- 7 -

- Disconnect rotary light switch and headlight range regulator from respective wiring harnesses.
- Remove bolts
(Qty. 13) and

remove front passenger side trim from instrument panel.
Note
:
- 2 -
Vehicle wallet compartment is fastened to passenger
side trim with two bolts. Both of these bolts do not need to be removed.
- Disconnect contact switch for glove compartment light from wiring harness.
- Disconnect glove compartment light from wiring harness.

- Remove bolts instrument panel hood bracket
- Remove bolts from instrument panel insert

- Remove instrument panel hood bracket from instrument panel.
- Remove instrument panel insert from instrument panel and disconnect 2 connectors.
- Remove 4 bolts bolster on driver side.

- Pry vent grille panel insert using wedge T10039/1 .
- Check whether loudspeaker installed under vent grille.
- If loudspeaker is installed, remove it upwards out of instrument panel and disconnect from respective wiring harness.
- Check whether vehicle has Climatronic.
- For vehicles with Climatronic, pull sun sensor disconnect it from respective wiring harness.
- For vehicles without Climatronic, cover

Only vehicles with Climatronic and/or loudspeaker and/or parking distance warning system and/or storage bin:

- Open compartment, grasp housing
with both hands and pull out of dash

panel mountings with a jerk.
- When removing, grasp housing above vents and pull backwards (opposite direction of travel).
Note
:
Before installing housing, check that fastening clips
on sides (Qty. 6) are correctly positioned in mounting for housing.
- For vehicles with vent illumination, detach wiring harness from housing

Note
:
When installing instrument panel, ensure that wiring
harnesses and sealing plugs are properly routed.
- Disconnect wiring harness (speaker/sun sensor) from instrument panel and remove instrument panel.
- On vehicles with storage bin, separate respective wiring harness.
Note
:
Removal of storage bin is not necessary.
All vehicles:
- Remove two bolts
- 1 -
(8 Nm).

- Remove bolt
- Loosen 2 nuts each
- 2 -
(8 Nm).

Note
:
For clarity, four nuts are shown removed. It is not
necessary to remove front passenger airbag from instrument panel.
- Disconnect wiring harnesses from front passenger airbag.
Note
:
After instrument panel has been installed, front
passenger airbag module must be positioned precisely in mountings under instrument panel.
To secure free of stress, first install bolts
and then nuts

- Remove union nut lock
and remove ignition lock from

remove instrument panel from vehicle.
Installing
- Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
Note:
When installing instrument panel, ensure that
instrument panel is positioned precisely in mountings in area of transition to windscreen.
