Please read this manual carefully before use. For specific information on your own blood pressure, contact your physician. Put the user guide away in a safe place for future reference.

To avoid inaccurate results caused by electromagnetic interference between electrical and electronic equipments, do not use the device near a cell phone or microwave oven.

1 Introduction

Congratulations with your purchase of the Topcom BPM Arm 3301. This fully automatic blood pressure monitor is both easy to use and ideally suited for daily measurements. The large display includes systolic, diastolic and pulse, all clearly shown at the completion of each reading. In addition, you can store up to 30 measurements per Memory Zone, ideal for users who want to monitor and track their blood pressure on a regular basis. The BPM Arm 3301 is compact and portable, making it ideal for home use and travel.

2 Safety instructions

1. This product is for household use only. It is not intended as a substitute for consultation with your doctor.

2. For users diagnosed with common arrhythmia (atrial or ventricular premature beats or atrial fibrillation), diabetes, poor circulation of blood, kidney problems, or for users suffered from stroke, or for unconscious users, the device might not be suitable for use. Consult your doctor in case of any doubt.

3. The unit should not be operated by children so to avoid hazardous situations.

4. The unit contains high-precision assemblies. Therefore, avoid extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight. Avoid dropping or strongly shocking the main unit, and protect it from dust.

5. Leaky batteries can damage the unit. Remove the batteries when the unit is not used for a long time.

6. Do not press the START key when the cuff is not placed around the arm.

7. Do not disassemble the main unit or cuff.

8. If the unit is stored in a cold place, allow it to acclimate at room temperature before use.

9. Clean the blood pressure monitor body and the cuff carefully with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Do not press. Do not bend the pre-formed cuff inside out. Do not wash the cuff or use chemical cleaner on it. Never use thinner, alcohol or petrol (gasoline) as cleaner.

3Helpful tips

Here are a few helpful tips to help you obtain more accurate readings:

• Do not measure your blood pressure immediately after consuming a large meal. To obtain more accurate readings, please wait one hour before measuring.

• Do not smoke or drink alcohol before measuring your blood pressure.

• You should not be physically tired or exhausted while taking a measurement.

• It is important that you relax during measurement. Try to take 15-minutes rest before a reading.

• Do not take measurements if you are under stress or under tension.

• Take your blood pressure at normal body temperature. If you are feeling cold or hot, wait a while before taking a measurement.

• If the monitor is stored at very low temperature (near freezing), have it placed at a warm location for at least one hour before using it.

• Wait about 5 minutes before taking the next pressure measurement.

4 Disposal of the device

At the end of the product lifecycle, you should not throw this product into the normal household garbage but bring the product to a collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipments. The symbol on the product, user guide and/or box indicate this.

5 Blood pressure

5.1 What is Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is the pressure exerted on the artery tube while blood flows through the arteries. The pressure measured when the heart contracts and sends blood out of the heart is systolic (highest). The pressure measured when the heart dilates with blood flowing back into the heart is called diastolic (lowest) blood pressure.

5.2 Why Measure Your Blood Pressure?

Among the various health problems afflicting modern people, problems associated with high blood pressure are by far the most common. High blood pressure's dangerously strong correlation with cardiovascular diseases and high morbidity has made measuring blood pressures a necessity of identifying those at risk.

5.3 Blood Pressure Standard

The World Health Organization (WHO) and National High Blood Pressure Education Program has developed a Blood pressure standard, according to which areas of low and high-risk blood pressure are identified. This standard however, is a general guideline as individual's blood pressure varies among different people and different groups...etc.

It is important that you consult with your physician regularly. Your physician will tell you your normal blood pressure range as well as the point at which you will be considered at risk.

5.4 Blood Pressure Fluctuation

Blood pressure fluctuates all the time! You should not be worried if you encountered two or three measurements at high levels. Blood pressure changes over the month and even throughout the day depending on circumstances (state of mind, temperature, ...)

When the Battery Low Indicator is displayed, the batteries needs to be replaced. Do not shortcircuit & dispose of in fire. Remove the battery if this device is not going to be used for a long period.

6. When the cuff is positioned properly, press the Velcro firmly against the pile side of the cuff. The metal ring will not touch your skin.

7. Relax your entire body,especially the area between your elbow and fingers. Place your elbow on a table so that the cuff is at the same level as your heart. Avoid leaning back while the measurementis being taken.

10 Measurement

10.1 Important

1. This monitor automatically switches off 1 minute after the last key operation.

2. To interrupt the measurement, simply press any key. The cuff will deflate immediately after a key is pressed.

3. During the measurement, do not talk or move your arm or hand muscles.

4. After each measurement, the result will be automatically stored. The BPM ARM 3301 has 3 memory zones with each 30 location. Select the desired Memory Zone before measurement (see §11)

10.2 Procedure

1. Press the SET button repeatedly to select the desired memory zone.

2. Press the START/STOP button to start measurement. The cuff will inflate to the level that is right for you.

3. When the right level is reached, the cuff will deflate.

When the batteries are installed, the data in the memories will not be lost even when the Blood Pressure Monitor is switched off.

4. When the measurement is completed, systolic, diastolic and pulse will be shown simultaneously on the LCD screen.

When a mistake was detected during measurement the Error mark appears on the display

The BPM 3301 has 3 Memory zones. Each can store up to 30 measurements including the date and time. The result will be stored automatically in the selected Memory Zone after the measurement.

Select the desired Memory Zone before measurement, by pressing the SET button repeatedly.

To recall measurement results:

• Press the SET button repeatedly to select the desired memory zone.

• Press the MEMORY button to see the last measurement result.

• Press the MEMORY button repeatedly for prior values stored.

• To stop reading the data, press the START/STOP button to switch back to normal time.

To erase all data from one memory zone:

• Press the SET button repeatedly to select the desired memory zone.

• Press the MODE and SET button simultaneously to erase all data from the selected memory zone.

12 Time adjustment

To adjust the date an time:

• Press the SET button to activate the display. The memory zone will be displayed.

• Press the MODE button, the month will blink on the display.

• Press the SET button succesively to change the month.

• Press the MODE button to confirm the month. The day will blink on the display.

• Change the day, hours and minutes as described above, using the SET button to change and the MODE button to confirm every setting.

• After setting the minutes, the device is ready to use.

requirements of the directive 93/42/EEC.

14 Topcom Warranty

14.1 Warranty period

The Topcom units have a 24-month warranty period. The warranty period starts on the day the new unit is purchased. Consumables or defects causing a negligible effect on operation or value of the equipment are not covered. The warranty has to be proven by presentation of the original purchase receipt, on which the date of purchase and the unit-model are indicated.

14.2 Warranty handling

A faulty unit needs to be returned to a Topcom service centre including a valid purchase note. If the unit develops a fault during the warranty period, Topcom or its officially appointed service centre will repair any defects caused by material or manufacturing faults free of charge. Topcom will at its discretion fulfill its warranty obligations by either repairing or exchanging the faulty units or parts of the faulty units. In case of replacement, colour and model can be different from the original purchased unit. The initial purchase date shall determine the start of the warranty period. The warranty period is not extended if the unit is exchanged or repaired by Topcom or its appointed service centres.

14.3 Warranty exclusions

Damage or defects caused by incorrect treatment or operation and damage resulting from use of non-original parts or accessories not recommended by Topcom are not covered by the warranty. The warranty does not cover damage caused by outside factors, such as lightning, water and fire, nor any damage caused during transportation. No warranty can be claimed if the serial number on the units has been changed, removed or rendered illegible.

Gebruik het toestel niet in de buurt van een mobiele telefoon of magnetron om onnauwkeurige resultaten door elektromagnetische interferentie tussen elektrische en elektronische apparaten te voorkomen.

1 Inleiding

Gefeliciteerd met uw aankoop van de Topcom BPM Arm 3301. Deze volautomatische bloeddrukmeter is gebruiksvriendelijk en ideaal voor dagelijkse metingen. Op het grote display worden bovendruk- (systolisch), onderdruk- (diastolisch) en polsslagwaarden weergegeven, allemaal duidelijk af te lezen op het eind van elke meting. Bovendien kunt u tot 30 metingen per Geheugenzone opslaan, ideaal voor gebruikers die hun bloeddruk regelmatig willen controleren en opvolgen. De BPM Arm 3301 is compact en draagbaar, en zo ideaal voor gebruik thuis en onderweg.

2 Veiligheidsinstructies

1. Dit toestel is enkel geschikt voor huishoudelijk gebruik. Het is niet de bedoeling om met deze meter een raadpleging bij uw dokter te vervangen.

2. Voor gebruikers die lijden aan aritmie (atriale of ventriculaire premature hartslag of atriale fibrillatie), suikerziekte, slechte bloedsomloop, nieraandoeningen, of voor gebruikers die een beroerte hebben gekregen of gebruikers die buiten bewustzijn zijn, is het toestel niet geschikt. In geval van twijfel, raadpleeg uw arts.

3. Dit toestel mag niet worden gebruikt door kinderen, anders kunnen gevaarlijke situaties ontstaan.

4. Het toestel omvat precisiecomponenten. Daarom moet het worden beschermd tegen extreme temperaturen, vochtigheid en direct zonlicht. Laat het toestel niet vallen en vermijd sterke schokken. Bescherm het tegen stof.

5. Lekkende batterijen kunnen schade aan het toestel veroorzaken. Verwijder de batterijen wanneer u het toestel langere tijd niet gebruikt.

6. Druk niet op de START-toets wanneer de armband niet rond de arm is geplaatst.

7. Demonteer het toestel of de armband niet.

8. Als het toestel op een koude plaats wordt bewaard, laat het dan eerst op kamertemperatuur komen alvorens het te gebruiken.

9. Reinig de bloeddrukmeter en de armband zorgvuldig met een licht vochtige, zachte doek. Oefen geen druk uit. Draai de voorgevormde armband niet binnenstebuiten. Was de armband niet en gebruik ook geen chemisch reinigingsmiddel om hem te reinigen. Gebruik nooit verdunner, alcohol of benzine als reinigingsmiddel.

3 Handige tips

Hieronder vindt u enkele handige tips die u helpen nauwkeurigere resultaten te verkrijgen:

• Meet uw bloeddruk niet onmiddellijk nadat u uitgebreid heeft gegeten. Om nauwkeurigere resultaten te verkrijgen, wacht u het best één uur vooraleer te meten.

• Rook niet of drink geen alcohol voordat u uw bloeddruk meet.

• Tijdens een meting mag u niet lichamelijk moe of uitgeput zijn.

• Het is belangrijk dat u tijdens de meting ontspant. Probeer 15 minuten te rusten vooraleer uw bloeddruk te meten.

• Meet uw bloeddruk niet als u gestrest of gespannen bent.

• Meet uw bloeddruk bij een normale lichaamstemperatuur. Als u het koud of warm heeft, wacht u beter een beetje vooraleer uw bloeddruk te meten.

• Als de meter op een erg koude plaats wordt opgeslagen, (dichtbij vriestemperatuur), zet hem dan gedurende minstens één uur in een warme ruimte vooraleer hem te gebruiken.

• Wacht ongeveer 5 minuten vooraleer u opnieuw uw bloeddruk meet.

4 Het toestel vernietigen (milieu)

Op het einde van de levenscyclus van het product mag u dit product niet bij het normale huishoudelijke afval gooien, maar moet u het naar een inzamelpunt brengen voor de recyclage van elektrische en elektronische apparatuur. Dit wordt aangeduid door het symbool op het product, in de handleiding en/of op de verpakking.

Sommige materialen van het product kunnen worden hergebruikt als u ze naar een inzamelpunt brengt. Door onderdelen of grondstoffen van gebruikte producten te hergebruiken, levert u een belangrijke bijdrage tot de bescherming van het milieu. Wend u tot uw lokale overheid voor meer informatie over de inzamelpunten in uw buurt.

5 Bloeddruk

5.1 Wat is bloeddruk?

Bloeddruk is de druk die wordt uitgeoefend op de slagaderwand door het bloed dat door de slagaders stroomt. De druk die wordt gemeten wanneer het hart samentrekt en bloed uit het hart stuwt, is systolisch (bovendruk). De druk die wordt gemeten wanneer het hart uitzet door het bloed dat terugstroomt naar het hart wordt de diastolische (onderdruk) bloeddruk genoemd.

5.2 Waarom moet u uw bloeddruk meten?

Van de verschillende gezondheidsproblemen waarmee de moderne mens heeft af te rekenen, komen problemen gepaard met een hoge bloeddruk verreweg het vaakst voor. Door de gevaarlijk sterke correlatie tussen hoge bloeddruk en cardiovasculaire aandoeningen en het hoge ziektecijfer zijn bloeddrukmetingen noodzakelijk geworden om de risicogroepen te identificeren.

5.3 Bloeddruknorm

De Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) en het Nationale Voorlichtingsprogramma voor Hoge Bloeddruk hebben een bloeddruknorm ontwikkeld aan de hand waarvan bloeddrukwaarden met laag en hoog risico worden geïdentificeerd. Die norm is echter slechts een algemene richtlijn, want de individuele bloeddruk verschilt van persoon tot persoon en van groep tot groep...enz.

Het is belangrijk dat u regelmatig uw arts raadpleegt. Uw arts zal u vertellen wat uw normale bloeddrukbereik is en vanaf welke waarde u risico loopt.

5.4 Bloeddrukschommeling

De bloeddruk schommelt heel de tijd! U hoeft zich nog niet ongerust te maken als u twee of drie keer een hoge bloeddruk meet. De bloeddruk verandert in de loop van de maand en zelfs in de loop van de dag, afhankelijk van de omstandigheden (gemoedsgesteldheid, temperatuur, ...)

Wanneer het batterij-symbool op de display verschijnt, moeten de batterijen worden vervangen. Maak geen kortsluiting & gooi de batterijen niet in vuur. Verwijder de batterij als u het toestel langere tijd niet gebruikt.

• Plaats 4 niet-oplaadbare AA-batterijen. Let op de in het batterijvak aangeduide polariteit.

6. Wanneer de band correct is geplaatst, drukt u de velcro stevig tegen de pluizige zijde van de band. De metalen ring raakt uw huid niet.

7. Ontspan heel uw lichaam, vooral het gebied tussen uw elleboog en vingers. Plaats uw elleboog op een tafel zodat de band op dezelfde hoogte als uw hart ligt. Avoid leaning back while the measurementis being taken.

10 Meting

10.1 Belangrijk

1. Deze meter schakelt automatisch uit wanneer gedurende 1 minuut geen toets wordt ingedrukt.

2. Om de meting te onderbreken, drukt u op een willekeurige toets. De armband zal onmiddellijk leeglopen nadat op een toets is gedrukt.

3. Praat tijdens de meting niet en beweeg ook uw arm- of handspieren niet.

4. Na elke meting wordt het resultaat automatisch opgeslagen. De BPM ARM 3301 heeft 3 geheugenzones met elk 30 geheugenplaatsen. Selecteer de gewenste Geheugenzone vóór de meting (zie §11)

10.2 Procedure

1. Druk meermaals op de SET-toets om de gewenste geheugenzone te selecteren.

2. Druk op de START/STOP-toets om de meting te starten. De band wordt opgepompt tot op het niveau dat bij u past.

Als de batterijen zijn geplaatst, gaan de gegevens in de geheugenzones niet verloren, ook niet wanneer de Bloeddrukmeter wordt uitgeschakeld. Om de geheugenzones te wissen, verwijdert u de batterijen

5. Als de meting voltooid is, verschijnen de systolische druk, diastolische druk en polsslag tegelijkertijd op het LCD-scherm.

Wanneer tijdens de meting een fout wordt vastgesteld, verschijnt het Error-symbool op het scherm.

De BPM 3301 heeft 3 Geheugenzones. In elke zone kunnen tot 30 metingen, incl. datum en uur, worden opgeslagen. Het resultaat wordt automatisch opgeslagen in de geselecteerde Geheugenzone na de meting.

Selecteer de gewenste geheugenzone vóór de meting. Druk hiertoe meermaals op de SET-toets.

Meetresultaten oproepen:

• Druk meermaals op de SET-toets om de gewenste geheugenzone te selecteren.

• Druk nogmaals op de MEMORY-toets om het resultaat van de laatste meting te zien.

12 Datum en tijd instellen

De datum en het uur instellen:

• Druk op de SET-toets om de display te activeren. De geheugenzone verschijnt op de display.

• Druk op de MODE-toets, de maand knippert op de display.

• Druk meermaals op de SET-toets om de maand te wijzigen.

• Druk op de MODE-toets om de maand te bevestigen. De dag knippert op de display.

• Wijzig de dag, de uren en minuten zoals hierboven beschreven, gebruik hiervoor de SET-toets om de waarden te wijzigen en de MODE-toets om elke instelling te bevestigen.

• Nadat de minuten zijn ingesteld, is het toestel klaar voor gebruik.

14 Topcom Garantie

14.1 Garantieperiode

Op de Topcom-toestellen wordt een garantie van 24 maanden verleend. De garantieperiode begint op de dag waarop het nieuwe toestel wordt gekocht. De garantie op batterijen is beperkt tot 6 maanden na aankoop. Kleine onderdelen of defecten die een verwaarloosbaar effect hebben op de werking of waarde van het toestel zijn niet gedekt door de garantie. De garantie moet worden bewezen door voorlegging van het aankoopbewijs waarop de datum van aankoop en het toesteltype staan.

14.2 Afwikkeling van garantieclaims

Een defect toestel moet, samen met een geldig aankoopbewijs, worden teruggestuurd naar een Topcom-hersteldienst. Als het toestel tijdens de garantieperiode een defect vertoont, zal Topcom of diens officieel erkende hersteldienst eventuele defecten te wijten aan materiaal- of productiefouten gratis herstellen. Topcom zal naar keuze haar garantieverplichtingen vervullen door defecte toestellen of onderdelen van defecte toestellen ofwel te herstellen ofwel te vervangen. In het geval dat het toestel wordt vervangen, kan de kleur en het model verschillend zijn van het oorspronkelijk gekochte toestel. De oorspronkelijke aankoopdatum is bepalend voor het begin van de garantieperiode. De garantieperiode wordt niet verlengd als het toestel wordt vervangen of hersteld door Topcom of diens officieel erkende hersteldienst.

14.3 Garantiebeperkingen

Schade of defecten te wijten aan onoordeelkundig gebruik of bediening en schade te wijten aan het gebruik van niet-originele onderdelen of accessoires die niet zijn aanbevolen door Topcom, worden niet gedekt door de garantie. Topcom draadloze telefoons mogen enkel met oplaadbare batterijen worden gebruikt. Schade te wijten aan het gebruik van niet-oplaadbare batterijen is niet gedekt door de garantie. De garantie dekt geen schade te wijten aan externe factoren, zoals bliksem, water en brand, noch enige transportschade. Er kan geen garantie worden ingeroepen als het serienummer op het toestel is gewijzigd, verwijderd of onleesbaar gemaakt. Garantieclaims zijn ongeldig indien het toestel hersteld, gewijzigd of aangepast werd door de koper of door niet-gekwalificeerde, niet-officieel erkende Topcom-hersteldienst.

1 Introduction

Félicitations pour l’achat du Topcom BPM Arm 3301. Ce tensiomètre, entièrement automatique est facile à utiliser et convient parfaitement à une utilisation quotidienne. Le grand écran affiche la tension systolique, la tension diastolique et le rythme cardiaque, tous trois clairement visibles à la fin de chaque cycle de mesure. 2 Instructions de sécurité

1. Ce produit est prévu pour un usage ménager uniquement. Il ne remplace aucunement une consultation chez votre médecin.

2. L’appareil peut ne pas convenir pour utilisateurs souffrant d’une arythmie commune (auriculaire ou ventriculaire ou fibrillation auriculaire), du diabète, d’une mauvaise circulation du sang, de problèmes rénaux, pour les utilisateurs ayant eu une attaque, ou pour les utilisateurs inconscients. 3. L’appareil ne doit pas être utilisé par des enfants en vue d’éviter toute situation dangereuse.

4. L’appareil contient des pièces de haute précision. Par conséquent, évitez les températures extrêmes, l’humidité et la lumière directe du soleil. Évitez de laisser tomber ou de donner un choc puissant à l’unité principale, et protégez-la de la poussière.

5. Une fuite des piles peut endommager l’unité. Enlevez les piles lorsque l’unité n’est pas utilisée pendant un long moment.

6. Ne pressez pas la touche START si la manchette n’est pas positionnée autour du bras.

3 Conseils utiles

Voici quelques conseils utiles pour vous aider à obtenir des mesures plus précises :

• Ne mesurez pas votre tension artérielle immédiatement après avoir consommé un grand repas. Pour obtenir des mesures plus précises, veuillez attendre une heure avant de mesurer.

• Ne fumez pas et ne buvez pas d’alcool avant de prendre votre tension artérielle.

• Pour prendre votre tension, vous ne devez pas être fatigué physiquement.

• Il est important que vous soyez détendu pendant une mesure. Essayez de vous reposer 15 minutes avant de la prendre.

• Ne prenez pas votre tension si vous êtes stressé ou tendu.

• Prenez votre tension à température normale du corps. Si vous avez froid ou chaud, attendez un peu avant de prendre votre tension.

• Si le moniteur est conservé à des températures très basses (proches du gel), placez-le dans un endroit chauffé pendant au moins une heure avant de l’utiliser.

• Attendez environ 5 minutes avant de prendre la mesure suivante.

5 Tension artérielle
