Setup

Chapter 2. Using the DVD Duplicator

This chapter explains how to set up the DVD Duplicator, as well as basic operation and menu functions.
Setup
1. Select a well-ventilated area for the DVD Duplicator. Carefully remove the DVD Duplicator unit, AC power cord and user’s manual CD-ROM from the shipping box.
Note:
Please keep the original box and packaging materials for use in the
event of future storage or transportation of the unit.
2. To ensure that the unit is properly balanced, place the DVD Duplicator on a flat surface. Extend the Duplicator’s feet outward at each its four lower corners.
For more information, refer to the section “Front Panel” on page 3.
3. Connect one end of the included power cable to the back of the DVD Duplicator. Connect the other end of the power cable to a three-prong
receptacle AC outlet.
Caution:
Do not attempt to bypass the grounding plug. Otherwise, you risk
damage to the unit and electrical shock.
4. Turn on the power to the DVD Duplicator by pressing the power button on the lower right-hand side of the unit.
During initialization, the DVD Duplicator performs a self-test in which the unit’s internal buffer is tested, source and target drives are detected, and the LCD display is tested. Once the initialization is complete, the DVD Duplicator is ready for use.
The LCD initially displays the

Basic Operation

Basic Operation
This section explains the basic operation of the DVD Duplicator.

Copying from the Optical (DVD) Source Drive

1. Place a source disc in the disc tray of the source drive.
2. Switch to the
function by pressing the SET button.
Copy
3. Place a blank DVD±R disc into as many of the target drives as you desire, then press the RUN button to start copying.
You do not need to insert a DVD disc into every available target drive. You can make fewer copies if you prefer. The internal controller will automatically detect inserted discs and issue the record command to only those target drives that contain a blank disc.
When the copy operation is complete, the DVD disc in each of the target drives will be ejected automatically.
Note:
With the default setting, after a source disc has been successfully copied, the DVD Duplicator automatically ejects the target DVD discs.
With the default setting, if the copy operation fails, the failed target DVD disc remains in the target drive. To remove the failed DVD disc, press the eject button on the target drive and retrieve the disc. Press the eject button again to retract the disc tray.

Loading Data to and Copying from the Hard Disk Source Drive

Loading Data to and Copying from the Hard Disk Source Drive
During initialization (see Step 4 on page 7), the DVD Duplicator performs a selftest to detect source drives. The DVD-ROM drive and hard disk drive will be detected as available source drives. The DVD-ROM drive is the default source drive.
The internal hard disk drive was formatted and partitioned at the factory. Each partition occupies 9GB of hard disk space. Partitions are arranged in numerical order starting with partition 00000, and initially contain no data. A set of data loaded into a partition on the hard disk drive is called an “image file.”
To use the hard disk drive as the source drive, you must first load an image file from a DVD into a partition on the hard disk drive, select the partition that contains the data you want to copy, then execute the copy function.
1. Insert a source DVD into the DVD-ROM drive.
This disc contains the data that you wish to copy to the partition on the internal hard disk drive.
2. Press the SET button to select the
Load
function, then press the RUN
button to execute the function.
The data will be loaded into the default first partition (00000).
After a few moments, the source disc will be ejected, signaling the completion of the data load procedure.
3. Remove the source disc from the DVD-ROM drive.
Note:
If you need to load additional data from various sources, change to
another partition first (e.g., 00001) using the
mode, then repeat steps 1 and 2 above.

5. Using the SET button, change to the

The discs will be ejected when the copying process is complete.
6. Remove the copied discs from the Duplicator.
You can repeat this procedure from Step 4 if desired.

Load

The factory-installed hard disk drive was partitioned and formatted at the factory. Each partition is approximately 9GB in size.
The Load function enables you to transfer data from the DVD-ROM or DVD Writer drive to the current partition on the hard disk drive.
If you are loading various sources to the hard disk drive, change the Partition
Name
to specify a new partition after the Load function is completed. This will prevent you from overwriting data that has already been loaded into the previous partition.

Setup Mode Functions

Setup Mode Functions
The Setup mode includes nine (9) functions. To enter the Setup mode, press and hold the SET button until you hear a beep. The LCD will then display SETUP. Press the SET button to scroll through the available functions. To exit the Setup mode, press and hold the SET button until you hear a beep. Each function is explained below.

Automatic

This function is for factory use only.

Partition Name

The Partition Name function enables you to setup the ID and partition number of the hard disk drive.
The first two (2) digits are the ID number of the hard disk drive. This ID can range from 00 to 99. The remaining three (3) digits represent the position of the partition. The default setting is 00000.

Set as Default

This function allows you to set any changes or modification you have made as your default settings.

Update Firmware

The Update Firmware function updates the firmware on the interface board via a CD or DVD disc. The DVD Duplicator will locate the data and update its firmware automatically.
During the update, do not turn off the power to the unit. Once the update is complete, the LCD will display a message and all arguments will return to the default setting. Please restart the system to complete the firmware update procedure.

CD Reading Speed

The CD Reading Speed function controls the speed at which the source drive reads a CD-ROM.
The default setting is MX (maximum) read speed.
RUN: Modify parameter.
SET: Save and quit.
