Yamaha AR230 Wakeboard Boat

Operation

Your Wakeboard Boat needs the following for power (not supplied, available at your local RadioShack store
or online at www.radioshack.com).

• At least one 9.6-volt rechargeable nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) or nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack
for the boat

• One 9-volt battery for the transmitter

• A battery pack charger

In the Transmitter

We recommend a RadioShack 9-volt alkaline battery.

1. Slide ON/OFF on the transmitter to OFF.

2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw on the battery
compartment cover, and then remove the cover.

3. Put the battery in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols
(+ and -) marked inside.

4. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

When the transmitter’s range decreases, replace its battery.

In the Wakeboard Boat

Before you use the 9.6-volt battery pack, you must charge it using a battery charger. Follow the charger’s
directions to charge the battery pack.

1. To protect the propeller while you install the battery, place the Wakeboard Boat on the supplied stand.

2. Rotate ON/OFF on the top of the Wakeboard Boat to OFF.

3. Turn the latches (adjacent to the seats) on the battery compartment cover of the Wakeboard Boat
counterclockwise until they stop, and then lift the seat to remove the cover.

4. Attach the battery pack’s connector to the Wakeboard Boat’s matching connector. Do not force them!
They fit together only one way.

5. Carefully tuck the battery wire into the battery compartment. Then replace the seat and secure it by
turning the latches clockwise until they stop.

When the Wakeboard Boat moves slowly or not at all, change the 9.6V battery pack or recharge it according
to the battery charger’s instructions.

Ô BATTERY NOTES Ô

• Dispose of old batteries promptly and pr operly.

• Do not burn or bury batteries.

• Use only fresh batteries of the required size and

recommended type. Use only the
recommended battery pack and c h ar ger.

• If you do not plan to use the boat for ten days or

longer, remove the batteries. Batteries can leak
chemicals that can damage electronic parts.

• Do not charge or recharge the battery while it is

in the boat.

• Do not overcharge the battery. Overcharging

the battery pack might damage it.

• Do not recharge a battery pack immediately

after use (while it is still hot). Allow it to cool firs t.

• Make sure the battery compartment cover is securely fastened to the boat bef ore sailing.

• When you disconnect the battery pack from the charger, do not pull on the connector ’s wires. This might cause damage to t he

battery.

Sailing the Wakeboard Boat

1. Screw the antenna into the transmitter. For maximum range, hold the
transmitter as high as possible with the antenna fully extended and
pointing straight up.

2. Attach the wakeboards to the tower.

3. Rotate ON/OFF on the boat to ON, then put it in the water.

4. Slide ON/OFF on the transmitter to ON. The indicator on the
transmitter lights.

5. Use the transmitter’s control levers to drive and steer the boat.

Left Control Lever

Push up to move the boat forward, push down to move the boat backward,
and release to stop.

Right Control Lever

Push left to turn the boat left and push right to turn the boat right, release to go straight.
When you finish sailing the boat, take it out of the water and set ON/OFF on the boat and the transmitter to

OFF.
After operating the boat, turn it upside down so the drain hole on the deck points toward the ground to drain
any water that may have entered the boat. Dry your boat thoroughly before you store it. Leave its battery
compartment cover open while in storage to allow any moisture to evaporate.

NOTE:THE WAKEBOARD BOAT IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED IN OCEANS, RIVERS, LAKES OR
STREAMS. FOR BEST RESULTS, USE THE WAKEBOARD BOAT IN A SWIMMING POOL OR POND.

Helpful Hints

• Running your wakeboard boat continuously for long periods generates high heat levels. Heat causes
wear and tear on the motor. To help keep heat levels down, when your boat’s batteries die, let the boat
cool at least 10 minutes before installing a newly-charged battery pack.

• The boat is equipt with a bilge pump to automatically expel water from the boat when the boat turns left
or right.

• Keep the boat away from grass growing in the water and other debris that could cause propeller
damage. These items can jam the boat’s propellers and stop them.

• If the boat moves slowly and you have installed a fresh battery pack, check the propellers for debris.

• You cannot operate your boat near devices with transmitters that use the same frequency as your boat
(27 MHz).

• When the batteries begin to lose power, the boat slows down. So you don’t lose your boat, guide it to
shore as soon as you notice it slowing down.

• If someone uses a CB nearby, it might interfere with control of the boat. If this happens, move the boat
and transmitter away from the CB.

• To detach the tower from the boat, pull the two sides of the tower away from the boat.

Safety Precautions

• Any batteries purchased for use in this toy may pose a hazard to
children. Please check safety notice supplied with batteries before
use.

• NEVER touch the propellers while they are spinning, and never put
your fingers near the propellers when ON/OFF is set to ON.

• When the Wakeboard Boat goes outside the transmitter’s control
range, it stops. Hold the transmitter as high as possible with the
antenna vertical to try to re-establish contact. If you cannot, you must
move closer to the Wakeboard Boat to control it again, but be careful
not to wade into deep water.

• As with any product designed to be used in and around water,
children playing with this toy should be supervised by an adult.
