Prior to Installation

before it is turned on, in order to allow the refrigerant to

*WARNING: Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play

During Use
*WARNING: This appliance is designed for domestic use only, specifically
for the storage of edible foodstuffs.
It is not intended for commercial or industrial use.
*WARNING: Containers with flammable gasses or liquids can leak at low
temperatures. Do not store any containers of flammable
materials, such as spray cans and fire extinguisher refill
cartridges in the freezer.
*WARNING: Frozen food should not be refrozen once it has thawed out.
*WARNING: Do not place carbonated or fizzy drinks in the freezer.
*WARNING: Ice lollies can cause frost / freezer burns if consumed
straight from the freezer.
*WARNING: Do not remove items from the freezer if your hands are
damp / wet, as it may cause skin abrasions or frost / freezer
burns.
*WARNING: Bottles and cans must not be stored in the freezer, as they
can burst when the contents freeze.
*WARNING: There is risk of suffocation!
Keep packaging material away from the children.

*WARNING: Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate
the defrosting process, other than those recommended by
Freezer Controls
It is recommended to tilt the freezer
Green Indicator light (9)
This light shows that mains electricity is connected to the freezer.
The Green light does not give any indication of the temperature
inside the freezer.
Amber Boost Switch (10)
(Push On/Off) This will glow whilst the boost switch is on. The switch
overrides the thermostat and the compressor operates continuously
to lower the cabinet temperature.
Temperature Control
The normal storage temperature of the freezer should be -18° C (0° F).
The thermostat control located on the front of your freezer, can be
set to a mid position to obtain the approximate temperature for
storing already frozen food. This setting may have to be varied
depending upon the frequency of opening and closing the lid and for
a room temperature in excess of 25° C (77° F). Lower temperatures
may be obtained at the expense of higher running costs, with little
corresponding benefit. The thermostat turns the compressor (16)
ON and OFF to maintain the control panel setting.
At the minimum position, the thermostat may be
switched OFF! There will be a click when this happens.
The freezer will not run if the thermostat is switched OFF.

Important Notice
To ensure your Chest Freezer arrives in the best possible
condition, we have left the protective covering on the Cabinet.
This will not affect the operation of the Freezer, but feel free to
remove it at your convenience.
Subject to model, see Page 3 for Glider / feet installation.
Please note the serial number found on the label at the rear
of the freezer and print it on the warranty found on page 11.
Installation
Before use
Remove all packaging from the outside and inside of the
appliance. Wash the interior of the freezer using a solution of one
teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to each pint of warm water and
dry very thoroughly with a clean dry cloth. Detergents or soap
should not be used as they leave a trace of odour. Abrasive
cleaning powders must not be used in any interior, as they may
affect the finish.
Positioning
Locate the freezer away from sources of heat such as stoves,
radiators, etc and do not locate it in direct sunlight or where the
temperature rises due to the heat affects of the sun.
Place the freezer horizontally on a firm surface. Use wooden
block or similar object to compensate for an uneven surface.
Ensure that there is sufficient space between the freezer and
the wall for correct air circulation and opening the lid, with a
minimum clearance of 25mm (1 inch) at each side.
The freezer should not be positioned where it will be affected
by draughts or dampness.
Whilst the freezer can be used in an outbuilding or garage, this
may affect it's performance.
Maintenance and cleaning
Before cleaning, always switch off the appliance and disconnect
from the electrical power supply.

The freezer must be allowed to stand with the lid open for a
period of at least 12 hours after delivery, before it is switched on.
This allows the refrigerant to settle after the disturbance in
transit.
Plug into mains supply for 24 hours to ensure freezer is operating

Servicing
This appliance should be serviced by an authorised engineer and
only genuine spare parts should be used.
Under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the
appliance yourself. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons
may cause injury or serious malfunctioning.
At the end of the appliance life
When disposing of your appliance, use an authorised disposal site.
Remove the plug, lock or hinges, to ensure that a child cannot get
trapped inside. If they will not unscrew, knock them off with a
suitable hammer.

Operation
After freezer has run for 24 hours (see page4), switch on the Boost
warmer and expands. When the lid is closed again, the air is cooled
with the walls of the freezer. If necessary, the food may be placed

putting in frozen food. This will ensure that the cabinet is thoroughly
chilled before food is put in. Then turn off the Boost switch.
If the cabinet temperature is considered to be incorrect, adjust
the thermostat (8) to a higher setting. If the appliance still does not
get below -18 C, contact your service agent.
Open / Closing the lid
Do not open the lid frequently or leave it open longer than necessary.
The lid is fitted with a tightly closing seal (3) to prevent
moisture entering the freezer and increasing the amount of frost
formed.
When the lid is open, the air inside the freezer becomes slightly
immediately. This may cause a vacuum which makes it hard to open
the lid again. This is quite normal.
Wait for a few minutes until the vacuum has subsided, then open
gently. Never use excessive force on the handle.
Freezing fresh food
When loading your freezer with fresh food, place the food in contact
between already frozen food and the cabinet walls. The amount of
fresh food the appliance will freeze in 24 hours is highlighted in the
table on page 10.
External cleaning
The outside of the freezer should be cleaned regularly with a clean
cloth, wrung out in a mild detergent solution.
When the appliance is not in use
When switching off your freezer for a long period e.g.: holidays, it
should be disconnected from the electricity supply, cleaned inside
and left with the lid in an open position to prevent stagnation of any
food residue.
Lubrication
Regular lubrication of the hinges is recommended to prevent cracking
noises.
Basket position
Baskets should be placed toward the centre of the freezer, or
equally spaced when two baskets are in use. This prevents the
baskets from accidentally parting the lid seal.

At any time when loading appreciable quantities of unfrozen
will be very cold.

Storage times
foods, run the freezer with the Boost switch (10) on for at least
8 hours before placing the food in the freezer and return it to the
off position, when the food is frozen. Always allow 24 hours to
ensure complete freezing.
When adding already frozen food, it will not be necessary to turn
the Boost switch (10) on.
If the Boost switch is accidentally left on, the freezer will not be
damaged, but energy will be wasted. The inside of the freezer
Storing pre-packed food
Pre-packed frozen food should be stored in accordance with the
manufacturers instructions. Place packets of frozen food into the
freezer as quickly as possible after purchase. If there are
instructions on the packet, carefully follow these regarding storage
times.
Storage times
The freezer is intended for long term storage of frozen food. The
storage life of frozen foods varies and the recommended storage
times should not be exceeded. The following information is just a
guide and is not comprehensive.

Normal Operating Sounds
You may hear a gurgling sound.
This is the refrigerant being pumped around the system.
When the compressor is on, you may hear a whirring sound from it.
The thermostat which controls the compressor makes a distinct
'click' when it turns on and off.

Maintenance
As time goes on, frost will form on the inside of the cabinet near
when defrosting the freezer. However careful you are, complete

the top. This frost should be scraped away when it is
approximately 6mm (1/4") thick, using a wooden or plastic scraper.
Never use metal instruments or you will damage the finish on
your freezer. Cover the food with a clean cloth and hold a tray
against the inside of the cabinet to catch the frost as you scrape
it away.
It is not necessary to switch off the freezer while defrosting.
Cleaning
Before any maintenance or cleaning is carried out,
you must DISCONNECT the appliance from the
electricity supply.
Never use abrasive cleaning materials or strong
chemicals on any part of the freezer.
Internal Cleaning
Wash the interior of the freezer using a solution of one teaspoon
of bicarbonate of soda, to each pint of warm water and dry very
thoroughly with a clean dry cloth.
Detergents or soap should not be used as they leave a trace of
odour.
Complete Defrosting
The instructions regarding the care of frozen foods should be followed
defrosting will in course of time, become necessary. This should
be carried out if the frost build up cannot be scraped away, or if it
begins to interfere with the food storage. Choose a time when the stock
of frozen food is low and proceed as follows.
1) Turn the freezer OFF at the electrical supply and leave the lid open.
2) Take the frozen food out, Ideally the food should be put into another
freezer. If this is not possible, wrap it into a compact block, first in
sheets of newspaper and then in a thick blanket and keep in a cool
place....... Not on a metal surface.
3) Scrape away as much frost as possible.
4) Thawing of the remainder can be accelerated by holding hot cloths
against the inside of the cabinet. as the solid frost loosens, prise
away with a wooden or plastic scraper.
5) Clean the inside as described in Cleaning - Internal Cleaning.
6) When the cabinet is completely clean and dry, close the lid, switch
on and turn the Boost switch (10).
7) Leave the cabinet to cool down for a hour and then replace the
frozen food. Turn off the Booster switch after not less than a further
2 hours.
Providing our recommendations are followed, this complete defrosting
can be carried out easily within 2 hours. as long as you protect the
frozen food during defrosting as described above and it is still hard, it
can be put back into the freezer for normal storage.
If the defrosting takes longer than 2 hours, some of the frozen food may
start to thaw. If it has not thawed completely, it may be refrozen, but
should be used as quickly as possible.
Food that has thawed completely MUST NOT be put back into the freezer.

The siting of freezers in unheated outhouses, cellars and garages
may, in cold weather, give rise to condensation forming on the outer
surface of the freezer…….. This is not a fault.
This occurs particularly when the humidity is high and will generally
disappear with drier weather. However, the condensation should be
removed by wiping with a dry cloth.
It is caused by the cabinet being cold due to having a rear condenser
instead of a skin condenser. The outside of a freezer with a skin
condenser warms up each time the compressor comes on. It can
usually be reduced by turning the thermostat down to a lower setting.
Power failure

thaw, particularly if the cabinet is full of food.
Food at the top of the cabinet will thaw slightly more quickly than
food lower down, but will be safe for at least 18 hours. This does
not apply to ice cream and similar products which thaw faster.
If the freezer fails to operate
If the temperature inside the freezer has risen, this can mean that an
excessive load of fresh food has been put in for freezing, or the lid has
been left open. Turn the Thermostat ( 10 ) to 7 for a few hours until the
temperature returns to normal.
If this is not the case, check the electricity supply.
1) Ensure that the freezer is connected to the outlet socket and this is
switched on.
2) Check the house fuses or circuit breakers ( this may be checked by
plugging in another electrical appliance into the same socket ).
3) Turn up the Thermostat switch ( 10 ). If the compressor starts, leave
the Thermostat at the setting and check the storage temperature.
4) If the freezer still does not operate, contact your supplier or service
agent.

The manufacturer strongly recommends that all fridges and freezers
be connected via a tamper proof moulded plug provided.
Continuous stopping and starting of the appliance, may shorten the
life of the compressor.
When transporting and setting up the appliance, when handling, cleaning
and subsequent disposing of it when it is being taken out of use, ensure
that no damage is caused to any part of the coolant circuit.
If any leak caused by mechanical damage coincides with a source of
ignition, an explosion may occur. For this reason, no household
appliances driven by an electric motor ( e.g.: stirrers, mixers, or ice cream
beaters ) should be operated inside the appliance. Nor should any
heating or any source of ignition be introduced into the appliance.
This particularly applies to naked flames. This is also applicable to the
area surrounding the appliance openings. As the coolant is heavier than
air, it accumulates at ground level. If a fault should occur, the room
containing the appliance must be kept well ventilated.
Before carrying out any work on the appliance such as cleaning,
defrosting, changing bulbs, replacing door seals, setting up or installing,
remove the fuse.

It is strongly advised that contents of your freezer are insured on installation and checked regularly.
I.E. on a day to day basis.
The green indicator light (where fitted) does not indicate the temperature inside the freezer, it merely shows that the
mains supply connected to the freezer is on.
The manufacturer strongly suggests that you ensure you have adequate food insurance. Losses can result from deterioration
following breakdown or accidental failure of the appliance, fuses, plugs or public electricity supply. These may be covered by your
standard home insurance or might require extra cover. Check with your insurance broker or insurance company.
Wider insurance cover can normally be obtained to cover failure of the electrical supply through strikes, industrial action, etc, or
