Driving Home Theater with Pinpoint Accuracy, Potent Power and Multi-Entertainment Options

To create an A/V home theater receiver of exceptional quality, the challenge lies in incorporating the delicate processing circuits and amplifier components into the same chassis. When they both draw on the same power source, the amplifier dominates at peak moments. In a good design, it all works smoothly—as with the THX Select2 Certified TX-SR803 7.1-channel A/V surround home theater receiver. You have a wealth of connectivity options, including HDMI (version 1.1) and component video for an effortless, high-bandwidth transfer of video and audio signals to the latest HDTV displays. Also, the inclusion of a TBC (Time Base Corrector) will effectively prevent any picture deterioration caused by timing inaccuracies. With numerous other features that help the TX-SR803 to stamp its class—Auto Speaker Set-up with Microphone, multizone playback, VLSC (Vector Liner Shaping Circuitry) and 192 kHz/24-bit DACs on all channels, an RS232 port for control, and iPod® playback capabilities—this receiver stands out as a powerful blend of superb engineering design and functionality.

2 HDMI Video/Audio Inputs and 1 Output

With the TX-SR803’s HDMI inputs and output, you have the ability to send unparalleled amounts (5 Gbps) of uncompressed digital data, both audio and video, to compatible digital devices through a single cable. Compared to the previous HDMI version 1.0, the TX-SR803’s onboard HDMI version 1.1 is capable of handling up to 8 channels of audio with a sampling rate of 192 kHz (24-bit samples) and transmitting uncompressed audio from a DVD-Audio disc.

THXSelect2Certified and THXSurround EX

With THX Select2 certification, the TX-SR803 demonstrates that it has met the rigorous design and performance standards set by THX. For the end user, it enhances the overall system’s ability to accurately present movies the way they were mixed by the filmmaker on the dubbing stage and its additional THX listening modes enhance playback performance of music, movies and video games. Furthermore, its ASA (Adaptive Speaker Array) technology optimizes playback of multi-channel movies, music and video games. THX Select2 also includes the THX Surround EX decoder, which enables sound mixers to encircle the audience with 360-degree pans and more realistic fly-over and ambient sound effects.

VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) for All Channels

The TX-SR803 incorporates Onkyo’s VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), which employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to mitigate the effect of signal noise. As noise is magnified during the conversion process, even minimal amounts of noise can adversely affect audio quality. With VLSC, data is converted between the sampling points and these discrete sampling points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result—a noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source.

Independent Crossover Adjustment for Bass Management

With the TX-SR803’s crossover adjustment for bass management, you can independently set the frequency of your front, center, surround and surround back speakers at 40/60/70/80/90/100/120/150/200 Hz. Previously, crossover adjustment was limited to 40/60/80/100/120/150 Hz, so you will find that the TX-SR803 gives you greater scope to match different speakers and subwoofers to your system.

Auto Speaker Set-up with Microphone

The TX-SR803 uses a high-sensitivity microphone to pick up test tones from your favorite listening spot, and then uses an acoustic analyzer to adjust the sound pressure level and time delay of each channel. Test tones are output by each speaker, detected by the microphone and shown through an onscreen display. This ensures that each channel’s delivered synchronously, so you get the most accurate frequency response from your favorite listening spot. Easily calibrated using the TX-SR803’s onscreen display and quickly completed in minutes, this function is also useful if you decide to switch rooms, or even move to another home.

Multiroom Playback Capabilities through Powered Zone 2

Powered Zone 2 gives you the option of different sources throughout your home. With the Powered Zone 2 function, you can enjoy one input source in the main room and a different source in another room through two different connection methods: using a receiver/integrated amp in Zone 2 or using only

a pair of speakers in Zone 2. In the former method, you can enjoy 7.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different AV source in Zone 2 (with the Zone 2 amplifier automatically switched on by a 12 V trigger). With the latter method, you can use 5.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different AV source (stereo) in Zone 2.

Integrating the iPod® into your System

The TX-SR803’s RI (Remote Interactive) capability enables you to integrate different Onkyo components for control through one remote. Also, you can simply connect the iPod to the TX-SR803 through the RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). What’s more, the DS-A1 is one of the more versatile interfaces between the iPod and audio-video systems available offering you hands-free control, recharging capacity and even iPhoto playback. With Powered Zone 2, you can effectively send your digital music via the iPod to another room or outdoors, even if you’re playing back multichannel music and movies in the main room.
