The general advantage of this arrangement
by which coolant is applied through the struc
ture of the grinding wheel, is that it keeps the
wheel cool-cutting and tends to push grinding
chips and abrasive particles from the wheel
face. It is ideal for those surface grinding jobs
requiring wet grinding, but where the steady
flow of coolant prevents the operator from
following the progress of the grind satisfac
torily. In addition, it lias been found benefi
cial in some classes of surface grinding when
used in combination with conventional flood
cooling.
The arrangement is designed so that coolant
is metered in the amount desired, from the
3-gallon capacity coolant tank on top of the
machine, through a pipe leading to the interior
of the grinding wheel sleeve. A solenoid valve
permits coolant to be delivered only when the
wheel is operating. Upon entering the wheel
sleeve, the centrifugal force of the revolving
wheel forces the liquid through the pores of the
wheel to its periphery, thus moistening the wheel
at point of contact with the work. Grinding
wheels without bushings are required.
The arrangement may be applied to NOR
TON G" x 18" or 8" x 24" Hydraulic Surface
Grinders when they are manufactured, and it
may also be applied to these machines in the
field. Prices will be quoted upon request.
