9 Active Distance Ass ist DISTRONIC

does not adapt cruising spee d in response to stationa ry objects , nor does it p redict the curvat ure and
lane layout of the ro ad ahead or the mo vement of vehic les ahead. Act ive Steering Assist requires driver
to hold steering wheel and be r eady to stee r vehicle at any time. It may not recognize lane mark ings in
some lighting, weather and r oad conditio ns. It is the dri ver’s respon sibility at a ll times to be attentive to
traffic and road conditions, and to provide the steering, braking and other driving inputs necessary to
retain control of t he vehicle. Dr ivers are cau tioned not to wait for the sys tem’s alerts b efore braking, as
that may n ot afford su fficien t time and di stance to brake safely.

14 While the navigation system provides directional assistance, the driver must remain focused on safe

driv ing behavior, includi ng paying atte ntion to traf fic and street s igns. The dri ver should uti lize the
system’s audio cue s while dri ving and shou ld only consult the map or visual disp lays once the ve hicle
has bee n stopped in a saf e place. Maps do n ot cover all area s or all routes wi thin an area.
