SUV. And certified Ultra Low Emissions, to motivate every other SUV on the planet. Two gasoline -powered V-8 engines deliver breathtaking acceleration. While a

50-state clean diesel BlueTEC V-6 breaks down its nitrogen oxide emissions into harmless nitrogen and oxygen, for torque-rich performance that can help everyone

breathe easier. To wield its power even more wisely, every GL-Class features a smooth 7-speed automatic transmission and efficient 4matic™ all-wheel drive1 that

Cleaner power. With an estimated 21 highway mpg,

GL 350 BlueTEC can go up to 550 miles on a tank of fuel,
including B5 Biodiesel. That’s further than most any full-size
SUV. Advanced BlueTEC technology starts with cleaner
combustion of its diesel fuel, and finishes with certified
Ultra Low Emissions, even in the most stringent U.S. states.

gasoline V-8 engines that output a bounty of low-end torque
while still earning Ultra Low Emission Vehicle certification.
The 335-hp GL 450 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just

6.9 seconds, while the 382-hp GL 550 whisks you there in
an effortless 6.4 seconds3 — quicker than some sports cars.

Clear control. Every GL-Class delivers its ample power

via the smooth, seamless response of a 7-speed automatic
transmission. An elegant electronic selector lever operates
with fingertip ease. Driver-adaptive logic matches the shift
points to your current driving style, or you can take charge
anytime with the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

or carving through fresh-fallen snow, the GL- Class backs you up with a legacy of engineering leadership. Its 4matic™ all-wheel drive

integrates both our 4 -wheel Electronic Traction System (4-ETS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)1 — two innovations in driving

control pioneered by Mercedes- Benz. Its height-adjustable AIRMATIC suspension soaks up rough roads and heavy loads. And with

the power to tow up to 7,500 lbs4 and Trailer Stability Assist, the GL-Class helps keep you in control, and your worries far behind you.

On any surface. Standard 4matic all-wheel drive integrates our 4-wheel

Electronic Traction System. 4 -ETS continually monitors each wheel for the
first sign of wheel slip, and instantly redistributes the engine’s torque to
the wheels with the best grip — and can help get you going even if only one
wheel has traction. 4matic also enhances handling balance on dry roads.

Upwardly mobile. When stopped on a steep slope, standard HIll Start

Assist makes getting going drama-free. When the driver releases the brake
pedal, the system holds the brakes for a moment, allowing a smooth takeoff
without unwanted rollback. It works when backing up a hill, too. Downhill
Speed Regulation helps maintain a steady crawl speed on steep descents.

On a cushion of air. The double-wishbone front/multilink rear suspension

of the GL-Class offers the nimble response that’s expected of a Mercedes­Benz. Self-leveling AIRMATIC control smooths out the ride, even with a full
load aboard. It also automatically lowers the ride height and center of gravity
at higher speeds, to enhance stability and aerodynamics. For deep snow or
ruts, the driver can even raise the suspension with the touch of a button.

Around corners. Precise rack- and-pinion steering features speed-sensing

power assist plus our innovative Direct-steer system. With a variable ratio

based on how far you turn the steering wheel, the system combines more

stable handling at speed with crisper cornering feedback and easier parking.

Under tow. Standard Trailer Stability Assist integrates with the sensors for

ESP to detect trailer oscillation when towing. If it senses the onset of sway,
it applies the front brakes of the GL- Class to help bring it all under control.

A history of foresight, and changing the future. Mercedes-Benz has blazed new trails in safety engineering for more

than half a century — from the 1951 patent for the crumple zone to emergency-sensing Brake Assist in the 1990s. And since

these safety firsts have since become industry standards, it’s no surprise that the GL-Class continues to foretell what other

SUVs might someday do. Beyond its 13-way air bag protection, it’s the only full-size SUV with PRE-SAFE,® an innovation that

can detect and prepare for a collision before it happens. The GL-Class doesn’t just look into the future. It looks out for yours.

PRE-SAFE. During certain vehicle maneuvers, the industry-exclusive

PRE-SAFE system can detect instability suggesting that a collision or
rollover is imminent. PRE -SAFE can then tighten the front seat belts,
close the windows and sunroof, and — on models equipped with the
optional front-seat memory — adjust the front head restraints and
passenger seat, all in an effort to better prepare the occupants.5

Nine standard air bags. Within the high-strength steel-reinforced

uni-body structure of the GL-Class, nine air bags offer a total of 13
ways of protection. In addition to four side-impact air bags, side
curtain air bags are provided for all three seating rows. A driver’s
knee air bag augments the dual-stage front air bags.6

Advanced restraints. The GL- Class provides a 3-point seat belt

and adjustable head restraint at each of its seven seating positions.
Outboard seat belts in all three rows are equipped with Emergency
Tensioning Devices (ETDs) and belt-force limiters. In a rear impact,
NECK-PRO active front head restraints help to prevent whiplash.

Post-collision response. If an air bag or seat-belt ETD deploys,

the standard Mercedes-Benz mbrace™ system can initiate a call
to our 24-hour emergency response center — even if you can’t.7
In addition, the POST-SAFE system automatically shuts off the
engine and fuel supply, turns on some cabin lights and the hazard
flashers, and unlocks the doors to assist rescuers.

Accident avoidance. Two systems first introduced by Mercedes-

Benz help you avoid potential collisions. ESP,® our Electronic Stability
Program, monitors the vehicle’s response to your steering and
braking, and responds to help keep it on course during evasive
maneuvers.1 Brake Assist can apply full braking pressure if it detects
an emergency braking situation by the speed at which you step on
the brake pedal — potentially shortening your stopping distance.

Blind Spot Assist. When traveling at speeds above 20 mph, this

new GL-Class option (standard on the GL 550) can alert its driver to
some unseen vehicles in the next lane.9 When sensors in the rear
bumper detect a vehicle to either side, an indicator illuminates in the
appropriate side mirror. Then, should you prepare for a lane change
by activating your turn signal, an audible warning will sound.

Distinguished details, substantial style. From the rugged core of its high-strength steel-reinforced uni-body to the brilliant finish of its stainless-steel skid plates,

the GL-Class exhibits an immediate, and lasting, presence. Its chiseled physique combines a long wheelbase with short overhangs and a tight turning circle — for a

smooth ride, a spacious three-row cabin and remarkably easy maneuverability. Lightweight yet highly rigid 19, 20 or 21" alloy wheels — each in a distinctive design —

add flair to the three GL-Class models. LED taillamps meld fashion with function, including quicker-illuminating brake lamps. And to better weather the elements of

nature, the GL’s advanced paint is infused with ceramic nano-particles, for a deep, glossy and exceptionally durable surface befitting the substance underneath.

Aluminum alloy. Sizable 19" 5-spoke wheels are standard

on the GL 450. Twin 5-spoke 20" wheels with runflat tires
are standard on the GL 350 BlueTEC10 and included in the
optional GL 450 Appearance Package. Super-sized 21" AMG
wheels give the GL 550 an even more authoritative stance.

Xenon. The available Lighting Package combines the night-

piercing brilliance of Bi-Xenon headlamps with the corner­brightening advantage of Active Curve Illumination. The
package — standard on the GL 550 — also includes headlamp
washers and dramatic white LED Daytime Running Lamps.

Precious metals. Finely crafted elements offer enduring

style and protection, from brushed aluminum roof rails and
polished aluminum side trim, to stainless-steel skid plates
guarding its bumpers. A polished chrome cargo-loading sill
and exhaust tips further reflect a deep attention to detail.

systems of the GL- Class are designed to make you feel at home with advanced

technology. Controls are as elegant in their operation as they are in appearance.

Instruments and displays combine brilliant detail with instant clarity. Even its

innovative options — most of them standard on the GL 550 — keep pace with your

changing world: Surround-sound audio imperceptibly compensates for ambient

noise. Navigation and live traffic reports help you anticipate and avoid delays. And

since hindsight is rarely 20/20, a rear view camera helps make backing up easier.

Multifunction steering wheel. Conveniently placed buttons put the most frequently used

features right at your fingertips. You can adjust the audio system, use the Bluetooth® wireless
interface,11 and thumb through the various screens of the multifunction display in the instrument
cluster, all without taking your hands off the Premium leather-wrapped steering wheel.

harman/kardon audio. The optional Premium 2 Package (standard on the GL 550) adds an

11-speaker LOGIC7® audio system that outputs 610 watts of Dolby® Digital 5.1 surround sound.
Listening choices include HD Radio™ stations, SIRIUS® Satellite Radio,12 iPod® integration,13
a 4GB Music Register for storing MP3 files, a 6- DVD/CD changer and a memory card reader.

Navigation with live traffic. The available navigation system

Zagat® Survey ratings for restaurants, hotels and golf courses, and live SIRIUS Traffic™ updates.
Enhanced Voice Control lets you find addresses by speaking normally, with no need to spell out
city names. It’s standard on the GL 550, and part of the Premium 1 Package on the other models.

Rear view camera and PARKTRONIC. Two options help you negotiate tight spaces. The rear

view camera15 — part of the Premium 1 Package and standard on the GL 550 — displays a live image
in the dash when you shift to Reverse. The optional PARKTRONIC system helps you detect nearby
obstacles using ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers and displays in the cabin.

Accommodation on a grand scale. From its heated 8- way power front seats to the class-leading headroom of its power-folding third row, the GL- Class welcomes its

seven passengers into an expansive world of luxury. Upholstery is carefully top-stitched and hand-fitted. Sustainably harvested Burl Walnut wood trim is hand-polished

to a warm glow. Dual-zone or optional 3-zone (standard on the GL 550) climate control filters dust, pollen and odors from the cabin. Countless standard features simply

outnumber the ordinar y. There are six power windows, including third-row vent windows. Two tinted-glass sunroofs. Eight beverage holders. Seven adjustable head

restraints. And thanks to the poised ride and precise handling of its self-adjusting AIRMATIC suspension, passenger comfort and driver enjoyment go hand in hand.

Generous with their support. The optional Premium 1

Package (standard on the GL 550) adds 3- position memory
to the standard heated power front seats. The driver-seat
memory recalls the power steering column and side mirror
settings. Seating options also include Active Ventilated front
seats (standard on GL 550) and heated second-row seats.

Space with grace. The flexible full-size cabin graciously

accommodates up to seven adults or 83.3 cu ft of cargo.
The 60/40- split second-row seats fold flat in seconds. The
50/50-split third row offers easy access to its generous
head and foot room, or power-folds flat at the touch of a
button. A power liftgate is part of the Premium 1 Package.

Room with a view. With a power tilt/sliding front sunroof

plus a fixed-glass rear sunroof, even the third row offers a
first-class view of the sky. Both utilize heat-reflecting tinted
glass to help maximize cabin comfort. Rear privacy glass on
all models is complemented on the GL 550 with infrared­reflecting glass that can block out 99% of ultraviolet rays.
