Safety Related Recall Campaign – 0516K Brake Master Cylinder

Background

This Lexus Service Letter has been issued to advise Dealers that Lexus has initiated a Recall Campaign to replace the Brake Master Cylinder Rear Cup Seal on a range of Lexus IS250, GS300 & RX330 vehicles produced from February, 2003 through to December, 2005.

Description of Problem

During vehicle assembly, Lexus brake fluid contains polymers that act as a lubricant for certain brake system components. If replacement brake fluid used has insufficient polymers the brake master cylinder rear rubber seal may become dry and curl during brake application. If this occurs, a small amount of brake fluid could leak from the rear of the brake master cylinder resulting in a low brake fluid level, and illumination of the brake warning light. If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, the brake pedal feel could change, and eventually braking performance could begin to gradually degrade.

Involved Vehicles

A total of 8,201 Lexus vehicles produced within the VIN range and production period tabled below are involved in Australia.
