The following operations can be performed simply by carrying the electronic key (including the card key) on your person, for example in your pocket. The driver should always carry the electronic key. For details on starting the engine, see page 17.

Entering and exiting the vehicle
Grip the driver’s door handle to unlock

the door. Grip any passenger door handle to unlock all the doors.
Make sure to touch the sensor on the back of the handle. The doors cannot be unlocked for 3 seconds after the doors are locked.

Theft Deterrent System

Engine immobilizer system
The security indicator flashes after the engine switch has been turned off to indi­cate that the system is operating. The indicator stops flashing after the engine switch has been turned to ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode to indicate that the system has been canceled.
Alarm
The alarm uses light and sound to give an alert when an intrusion is detected. To set the alarm: Close the doors and hood, and lock all the doors. The system will be set automatically after 30 seconds.
The security indicator changes from being on to flashing when the system is set.
To deactivate or stop the alarm:
Unlock the doors.
Turn the engine switch to ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode, or start the engine.
(The alarm will be deactivated or stopped after a few seconds.)

Starting the engine

Check that the parking brake is set.

Check that the shift lever is in P.
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
If it is not displayed, the engine cannot be started.
and a message will be displayed on the multi-information display.

Press the engine switch. The engine will crank until it starts or for up to 30 seconds, whichever is less. Continue depressing the brake pedal until the engine is completely started. The engine can be started from any engine switch mode.
Stopping the engine

Stop the vehicle completely.

Shift the shift lever to P.

Set the parking brake. If the parking brake is in automatic mode, the parking brake is set automatically when shifting the shift lever to P.

Press the engine switch.

Release the brake pedal and check that the display on the instrument cluster is off.

If your vehicle has to be stopped in an emergency
Only in an emergency, such as if it becomes impossible to stop the vehicle in the normal way, stop the vehicle using the following procedure:
1
Steadily step on the brake pedal with both feet and firmly depress it. Do not pump the brake pedal repeatedly as this will increase the effort required to slow the vehicle.

Shift the shift lever to N.
If the shift lever is shifted to N

After slowing down, stop the vehicle in a safe place by the road.
4
Stop the engine.
If the shift lever cannot be shifted to N
Keep depressing the brake pedal with both feet to reduce vehicle speed as much as possible.

To stop the engine, press and hold the engine switch for 2 consecutive sec­onds or more, or press it briefly 3 times or more in succession.

Selecting shift ranges in the D position
To drive using temporary shift range selection, operate the “-” paddle shift switch while the shift lever in D. Changing the shift range enables the level of engine braking force to be selected. The shift range can then be selected by operating the “-” and “+” paddle shift switches.

The selected shift range, from 1 to 6, will be displayed on the multi-information display.
The initial shift range when the “-” pad­dle shift switch is operated is automati­cally set to 2, 3, 4 or 5 according to the vehicle speed. To return to normal D position driving, the “+” paddle shift switch must be held down for a period of time.

Selecting gears in the M position

To enter M mode, shift the shift lever to M. Gears can then be selected by operating the shift lever or paddle shift switches, allowing you to drive in the gear of your choice. The gear can be selected by operating the shift lever or the “-” and “+” paddle shift switches (if equipped).

The gear changes once every time the shift lever or paddle shift switch is operated. The selected gear, from 1 to 6, will be fixed and displayed on the multi-infor­mation display.
When in the M position, the gear will not change unless the shift lever or paddle shift switches are operated. However, even when in the M position, the gears will be automatically changed in the fol­lowing situation:
• When vehicle speed drops (downshift only).
• When the accelerator pedal is depressed further, while driving (downshift only).
• When the needle of the tachometer is in the red zone (the range which exceeds the allowable revs of the engine).

The parking brake is set or released automatically according to shift lever operation. Even when in automatic mode, the parking brake can be set and released manually. (P. 25 )

The brake hold system keeps the brake applied when the shift lever is in D, M or N with the system on and the brake pedal has been depressed to stop the vehicle. The system releases the brake when the accelerator pedal is depressed with the shift lever in D or M to allow smooth start off.

The parking brake indicator light and parking brake lamp will turn on. Pull and hold the parking brake switch if an emergency occurs and it is neces­sary to operate the parking brake while driving.

The multi-information display presents the driver with a variety of vehicle data.

When the control is on with the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system during a controlled stop of the dynamic radar cruise control with full speed range.
Stopping the engine While running the vehicle-to-vehicle dis-
tance control mode of the dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range, with the shift lever in D or M, the engine auto­matically stops when the vehicle comes to a complete stop with a controlled stop.
The engine will stop and the Stop & Start indicator will come on.
Restarting the engine
The engine will restart when the vehicle ahead takes off.
The engine will restart. The Stop & Start indicator will go off.
Disabling the Stop & Start system
Press the Stop & Start cancel switch to disable the Stop & Start system. (P. 7 )

Without accelerator pedal operation by the driver, in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, the vehicle automatically accelerates, decelerates and stops in accordance to the changes in speed of the preceding vehicle. In constant speed control mode, the vehicle runs at a fixed speed. Use the dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range on freeways and highways.

Pulling the lever toward you cancels the speed control. The speed setting is also canceled when the brake pedal is depressed. (When the vehicle has been stopped by system control, depressing the brake pedal does not cancel the set­ting.)
Pushing the lever up resumes the cruise control and returns vehicle speed to the set speed. However, when a vehicle ahead is not detected in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, cruise control does not resume when the actual vehicle speed is approximately 40 km/h (25 mph) or less. Also, when the vehicle is in con­stant speed control mode and the actual vehicle speed is approximately 40 km/h (25 mph) or less, cruise con­trol does not resume as the set speed is cleared.

When the electronic key is detected, a buzzer sounds and the engine switch will turn to IGNITION ON mode. When the smart entry & start system is deactivated in customization set­ting, the engine switch will turn to ACCESSORY mode.
Firmly depress the brake pedal and check the message is shown on the multi-information display.

Press the engine switch.
In the event that the engine still cannot be operated, contact your Lexus dealer.
If the electronic key battery is depleted, a warning message will be shown on the multi­information display. Replace the battery with a new one. For instructions on replacing the battery, refer to the “Owner’s Manual”. If you need further assistance, contact your Lexus dealer.

Intrusion sensor (if equipped)

The intrusion sensor detects intruders or movement in the vehicle.
The tilt sensor detects changes in vehicle inclination, such as when the vehicle is towed
away.
The sensor may trigger the alarm in the following situations:
People or pets are in the vehicle.
A window or the moon roof (if
equipped) is open. In this case, the sensor may detect the following:
• Wind or the movement of objects such as leaves and insects inside the vehicle
• Ultrasonic waves emitted from devices such as the intrusion sensors of other vehicles
• The movement of people outside the vehicle
Unstable items, such as dangling acces­sories or clothes hanging on the coat hooks, are in the vehicle.

Places with extreme vibrations or noises, or situations in which the vehicle is subject to repeated impacts or vibrations:
• When parked in a parking garage
• When ice adhering to the vehicle is removed
• When the vehicle is in an automatic or high-pressure car wash
• When in a hail or lightning storm
Canceling the intrusion sensor and tilt sensor

Turn the engine switch off.

Press the intrusion sensor and tilt sen­sor cancel switch.
A message will be shown on the multi-information display in the instrument cluster. The intrusion sensor and tilt sensor will revert to on each time the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode.
The alarm is triggered even if the intrusion sensor is canceled. For details about the alarm and the intrusion sensor, refer to the “Owner’s Manual”.
