notapprovedanytie-downsystemsfortransportation ofauserwhileinawheelchair,inamovingvehicle ofanytype.ItisInvacare’spositionthatusersof wheelchairsshouldbetransferredintoappropriate seatinginvehiclesfortransportationandusebe madeoftherestraintsmadeavailablebytheauto industry.Invacarecannotanddoesnotrecommend anywheelchairtransportationsystems.

StairwaysandEscalators

WARNING! StairwaysandEscalators

–DONOTattempttomoveanoccupiedpersonal

transporterbetweenfloorsusingastairway.Usean elevatortomoveanoccupiedpersonaltransporter betweenfloors.

–Theweightofthepersonaltransporterwithoutthe

userisapproximately155lbs.Useproperlifting techniques(liftwithyourlegs)toavoidinjury.

–Ifmovingthepersonaltransporterbetweenfloorsby

meansofastairway,theoccupantMUSTberemoved andtransportedindependentlyofthepersonal transportercomponents.

–TheseatMUSTberemovedfromthepersonal

transporterbasebeforemovingitupordownthe stairs.Noupwardforceshouldbeappliedtotheseat tomovethechair.

–Thepersonaltransporterbaseweighs100lbswiththe

batteryboxinstalled.Invacarerecommendsremoving thebatteryboxandtransportingitindependently fromthebase.

–Invacarerecommendsusingtwoassistantsandmaking

thoroughpreparations.MakesuretouseONLY secure,non-detachablepartsforhand-holdsupports.

1.3GlobalLimitedWarranty(Excluding

Canada)

PLEASENOTE:THEWARRANTYBELOWHAS BEENDRAFTEDTOCOMPLYWITHFEDERALLAW APPLICABLETOPRODUCTSMANUFACTUREDAFTER JULY4,1975.

Thiswarrantygivesyouspecificlegalrightsandyoumayalsohave otherlegalrightswhichvaryfromstatetostate.

Invacarewarrantsthebaseframetobefreefromdefectsinmaterials andworkmanshipforaperiodoffive(5)yearsfromthedateof purchasefromInvacareoradealer,withacopyoftheseller’sinvoice requiredforcoverageunderthiswarranty.Invacarewarrantsall electronicsandelectricalcomponents(excludingbatteries),powered seatingactuators,2-polemotorsandgearboxestobefreefrom defectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipforaperiodoftwo(2)years fromthedateofpurchasefromInvacareoradealer,withacopy oftheseller’sinvoicerequiredforcoverageunderthiswarranty. 2.1Safety/Handling

“SafetyandHandling”ofthepersonaltransporterrequiresthe closeattentionofthepersonaltransporteruseraswellasthe assistant.Thismanualpointsoutthemostcommonproceduresand techniquesinvolvedinthesafeoperationandmaintenanceofthe personaltransporter.Itisimportanttopracticeandmasterthese safetechniquesuntilyouarecomfortableinmaneuveringaroundthe frequentlyencounteredarchitecturalbarriers.

Usethisinformationonlyasa“basic”guide.Thetechniquesthatare discussedonthefollowingpageshavebeenusedsuccessfullybymany.

UsersandassistantsMUSTbeawarethatthehandlingand maneuverabilitycharacteristicsofrearwheeldrivepersonal transportersareinherentlydifferentfromcenterandfrontwheel drivewheelchairs.Handlingandmaneuverabilitydifferenceswillbe mostnoticeablewhentravelingupordownrampsandslopesorover obstaclesandroughterrainasthismayshifttheuserscenterofmass resultingindecreasedstability.ALWAYSreducespeedandwearthe seatpositioningstrapwhendrivingundertheseconditions.

Individualpersonaltransporterusersoftendevelopskillstodealwith dailylivingactivitiesthatmaydifferfromthosedescribedinthis manual.Invacarerecognizesandencourageseachindividualtotry whatworksbestforhim/herinovercomingarchitecturalobstacles thattheymayencounter.Howeverallwarningsandcautionsgiven inthismanualMUSTbefollowed.Techniquesinthismanualarea startingpointforthenewpersonaltransporteruserandassistant with“safety”asthemostimportantconsiderationforall.

Whenassistancetothepersonaltransporteruserisrequired, remembertousegoodbodymechanics.Keepyourbackstraightand bendyourkneeswhenevertiltingpersonaltransporterortraversing curbsorotherimpediments.

–Also,beawareofdetachablepartssuchasarms,

legrests,ortheseat.TheseMUSTNEVERbeusedto movethepersonaltransporterorasliftingsupports, astheymaybeinadvertentlyreleased,resultingin possibleinjurytotheuserand/orassistant(s)

Whenlearninganewassistancetechnique,haveanexperienced assistanthelpyoubeforeattemptingitalone.

speedtomaintainstabilityandtoavoidhardbraking orsuddenstops.

–Theenduser’sweightcanmateriallyaffecttraction

onslopedsurfaces.Greatcareshouldbetakenwhen traversingsuchslopes.

–ALWAYSreducespeedwhentravelingupordownan

inclineoroverobstaclesandroughterrain.Traveling undertheseconditionsmayshifttheusersweight forwardresultinginreducedstability.

–Exercisecautionandavoidsuddenstopswhen

travelingupordownaninclineoroverobstaclesand roughterrain.Ifstoppingbecomesnecessaryunder thesedrivingconditions,releasethejoystickandallow thepersonaltransportertocometoafullstop.Then proceedataslowerspeed

moveforwardintheseatorpickthemupfromthe floorbyreachingdownbetweenyourknees.

2.1.3CopingwithEverydayObstacles

Copingwiththeirritationofeverydayobstaclescanbesomewhat alleviatedbylearninghowtomanageyourpersonaltransporter. Keepinmindyourcenterofgravitytomaintainstabilityandbalance.

Whilethepersonaltransporterisdesignedforuseprimarilyin andaroundthehome,theprovidershoulddeterminewhetherthis personaltransporterissuitablefortheactualenvironmentinwhich thepersonaltransporterwillbeused.

WARNING!

–DONOTattempttodriveovercurbsorobstacles

greaterthan2inches(50mm).Doingsomaycause yourpersonaltransportertoturnoverandcause bodilyharmordamagetothepersonaltransporter. Alwaysstopbeforeclimbinganobstacle.Approach slowlyuntilcasterscontacttheobstacle.Slowlyapply poweranddriveoverobstacle.

CAUTION!

–Beawareoftheconditionoftheramp.Traction

willbediminished/nonexistentonaslipperysurface. Proceedwithcaution.
