OVERVIEW

The IS 2216, IS 2220 and IS 2220D are direct replacements for the IS 2015, IS2018 and IS 2018D. The IS 2216/2220/2220D feature exactly the same specifications as the IS 2015/2018/2018D, except for speed.

With the increased speeds as well as lower costs, this new family offers attractive solutions in Segment 1 for a range of customers. Users moving from analogue to digital will find these products non threatening and easy to use, while more sophisticated users will be well satisfied with the multi-functionality, especially when configured with a printer/scanner and fax option.

KEY FEATURE SUMMARY

Printing & Versatile Connectivity Options

The Printer/Scanner option comes standard with the Ethernet Interface, 128 MB Memory, USB2.0 interface and software utilities for SmartDevice Monitor, ScanRouter Lite and DeskTopBinder. Connectivity options are Wireless, FireWire, Bluetooth and Parallel. Connecting the IS 2216 / 2220 / 2220D is extremely easy, and provides the very latest in scanning technology.

Scanning

Scan to email

Scan to email is as easy sending a fax, but has several advantages over traditional faxing. The scanned documents are sent directly to the recipient’s PC, thus saving cost (by not printing) and improving security (as documents are not left lying around). Furthermore, multiple recipients each receive their own copy quickly rather than having to wait for copies to be made (and with loss of quality). Transmission is cost effective via the internet or intranet and no special software is required, nor a delivery server.

Network TWAIN scanning

With the Printer/Scanner option, users can very easily scan files to the PC

Network Scanning with ScanRouter/DeskTopBinder

In addition to Scan to Email and Network TWAIN Scanning, the IS 2216, IS 2220 and IS 2220D also come with the ScanRouter Lite and DeskTopBinder Lite software utilities. These utilities enhance workflow by allowing users to distribute and share scanned documents over the network.

Faxing

LAN fax

Users can send faxes directly from the PC (as if sending them to a printer), without ever having to go to the fax machine or to make a print out. The advantages are paper saving and productivity (no need to walk to the fax machine).

Internet fax

Internet fax is a fairly specialised application, and provides great benefits to international organisations as well for communicating with countries where email is not yet easily available. The advantages of internet faxing are that it is cheap compared to traditional faxing, error-free and cheap. It is also productive, as incoming emails can be forwarded to PCs or groups of PCs.

Web Based Control

WebImage Monitor uses a standard web browser to allow users to monitor and manage the machine and its output directly from the PC. Checking toner and paper levels at a glance, changing network and communications settings or monitoring the progress of jobs are just some of the time saving functions available through WebImage Monitor. There is no need to install software on the PC, so no objections from the IT Department.

Environmentally Friendly

The use of lead, mercury, chromium, cadmium, PVC and PVD substances will be abolished, in compliance with the EU RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive which comes into effect in July 2006. This is of major importance to Major Accounts and Government Agencies.

Scanning Solutions

Distribution of documents via scanner applications is an important part of workflow in networked environments. The IS 2216, IS 2220 and IS 2220D offer the following scanning solutions:

Network TWAIN Scan

The Network TWAIN driver is provided with the Printer/Scanner option. With this function, users can easily scan documents to their PCs.

Scan to E-mail

Scan to E-mail is now a common scanner function in the market, mainly because of cost savings. The Scan to E-mail function of the IS 2216/2220/D does not require a dedicated server or utility software, therefore sales can confidently promote the scanning solution without adding expense to the customer’s environment.

ScanRouter V2 Lite & DeskTopBinder

ScanRouter V2 Lite and DeskTopBinder are supplied as standard with the Printer/Scanner option. The software allows documents scanned on the IS 2216/2220/D to be distributed and shared, ScanRouter V2 Lite delivers these scanned documents to the “in-tray” on a Delivery Server. From the Delivery Server these scanned documents can be:

Printing

As printers, the IS 2216, IS 2220 and IS 2220D are very productive. Even in duplex mode, the IS 2220D runs at 95% of its simplex speed.

The Printer/Scanner option of the IS 2216/20/D comes standard with 100Base-TX / 10BASE-T and USB2.0. Connectivity across networks is quick and easy. In addition, customers can select from the following connectivity options:

Fax Functions

The IS 2216, IS 2220 and IS 2220D can be upgraded with a fax option to provide a powerful fax solution. The high speed G3 fax option offers the following:

¾ 33.6 bps modem speed ¾ 3 sec. transmission speed ¾ 1 sec. scanning speed ¾ 36 pages scanned per minute ¾ 150 speed dial numbers in the Address Book

Both fax numbers and E-mail addresses are registered in the Address Book and are easily managed from the PC with Web Image Monitor or SmartDevice Monitor. This is much easier than standing at the keyboard, inputting addresses one at a time.

Internet Fax

Internet Fax reduces the cost of long distance faxing and is automatically available if the fax and printer/scanner options are installed. The IS 2216/20/D converts scanned document images to email format and transmits the data over the internet. The E-mail sent by IS 2216/20/D can be received by another Internet Fax or a PC. Instead of entering the telephone number of the destination you wish to send to, input the applicable E-mail address.

LAN-Fax Feature (LAN-Fax M4)

LAN-Fax also comes standard when the fax and printer/scanner options are fitted. This means that the user can send faxes directly from the PC (as if sending them to a printer), without having to go to the fax machine or to make a print out.

Benefits of LAN-Fax

Paper Saving: Eliminates the need for printing faxes, saving on paper and printing costs

Reduction of work time and workload: Eliminate the need to walk to the fax machine to enter

the fax number

Improved Document Quality: The image sent from a LAN-fax to G3 Fax is better than from hard copy sent by fax, screened letters; images will be faxed clearly

Transmission Result Report: When sending a fax from LAN-Fax with a user code, the transmission result report is delivered to the E-mail address associated with the user code. There is no need to walk to the machine to check on the transmission result.

Address Book Import/Export: This feature allows users to convert from other LAN fax systems to the IS 2216/20/D’s LAN-Fax without having to re-input addresses.

Device Management Utilities

Web Image Monitor

When the IS 2216/20/D is fitted with the Printer/Scanner option, users can simply open a web browser, type in the IP address of the IS 2216/20/D and gain access to the machine. This feature allows users to monitor the machine status, change network settings and much more – all from the PC.

Web Image Monitor is easy to use and is available to everyone across the network. There is no need to install additional software on PCs, so no objections from the IT manager.

¾ Ad hoc mode connection does not support communication with Novell Netware Servers

because Netware does not support the Wireless LAN interface

¾ 2 types of Ad hoc mode are selectable, “ad hoc mode” (uses only channel setting) or

“802.11b ad hoc mode” (uses channel setting and Service Set ID when communicating with other SSID devices)

(2) Infrastructure mode…communicates through Access Point device
