The person being tested is asked to indicate what he/she sees in the test and his/her eye movements are observed.
The ball is the only element visible using just one eye. The other shapes (each of which is placed at
dierent depht levels) are perceived only by someone with binocular vision and visual acuity over
2-3/10. For adults and cooperative children the card should be held at a distance of 30-40 cm, with
a request to indicate the shapes seen in it. If only the ball is seen, the result is pathological. If all
four shapes can be identied, then the result is normal.
Briey:
Positive result:
All objects are identied and named
Unclear result:
Only one of the images is recognised
Negative result:
None of the three-dimensional images is recognised.
INDICATIONS FOR EVALUATION OF THE TEST:
Suspected strabismus, amblyopia or reduced sight in one or both eyes or as a screening test for
stereoscopic vision.
If a child does not cooperate, the test can be shown and the tester can observe whether the child
tries to grasp one of the objects apart from the ball (the sh, the star or the tree). If this occurs,
the test is normal.
If it does not happen, the test cannot be considered pathological for certain and may be repeated
some time later.
Important: in the event of a negative or unclear result, it is advisable to carry out a complete eye
examination.
