Background
Many industrial plants use the Masoneilan Camex valve for a wide range of control valve applications. Replacing a Camex valve with a standard Fisher rotary valve is not straightforward because the standard Camex product only rotates 60°. The main issue with replacing the Camex valve with the same size Fisher Vee-Ball product is the Vee-Ball ow capacity is much greater at 90° rotation than the same nominal size 60° rotation Camex valve.
In many facilities, this extra capacity will require the end user to review safety relief valves/systems. The extra expense of performing the safety analysis let alone actually replacing the safety equipment can drive end users to stay with Camex valve. However, some end users can justify this investment, look at using a smaller nominal size valve, or use an actuator travel stop to get “close enough” to the Camex published capacity. Since that is not a one size ts all option, Emerson investigated developing a package solution.
For those of you who have been with the organization long enough, you will remember this is not the rst foray into developing a Fisher packaged solution targeted at Camex replacements. Unlike today’s packaged design, the legacy Fisher ePlug complete package utilized the Fisher V500 valve platform and was not market competitive. This time we are utilizing the more cost-effective Vee-Ball valve and consulted direct sales channels to better understand the target market price.

While the Fisher 2052 actuator was investigated for this package, it was quickly ruled out. In the 2052 design, the maximum restriction of travel (longest travel stop bolt allowed) is limited to 60° of rotation. To match the Camex full-open capacity, all sizes except the NPS 8 Vee-Ball valve require less than 60° of rotation. In addition, the standard travel stops in the 2052 actuator are adjustable, which many end users do not allow.
A xed travel Fisher 1068 actuator was designed to limit travel of the V150, V200, and V300 Vee-Ball valves to specically match the Camex product rated Cv capacity (100% open).
Some customers require actuator travel restrictions to be non-adjustable for safety valve sizing. The xed travel 1068 actuator in this package uses an internal restriction that is not eld adjustable, nor accessible.
The 1068 spring return actuator size 5i to 15i provides the same control performance as a 2052 actuator when used with a square shaft Vee-Ball valve. This is accomplished with a zero backlash square-to-square shaft coupling system.
You may recognize that in addition to the full capacity Camex valve, there are restricted trim options in the Camex design. While we have heard anecdotally that the majority of Camex installations do not use the restricted trim, we will make available Fisher special seat ring retainers to match the restrictions of the Camex valve when required.

The 1068 actuator construction to be used is all standard materials, except the standard external travel stops are removed and replaced with internal nonadjustable travel stops as shown below.

The actuator-to-valve connection does not use a typical Fisher splined connection. It uses a newly designed bolted square-to-square connector as shown below. The accuracy of the actuator is shown in Table 1.

Product Linearity % Hysteresis/ Deadband %
1068 Double Acting .33 .89
1068 Spring Return .33 .73
Fisher 1051 .30 .38
Fisher 1061 .49 .45
Fisher 585 .40 .52

The Fisher 1068 actuator’s linear response is in-line with all the Fisher actuator products. The hysteresis and deadband is slightly higher but much better than a rack and pinion product at 2 to 5% accurate.
The actuator also comes standard with the ability to mount a Fisher FIELDVUE DVC2000 or DVC6200 digital valve controller with no additional mounting parts. The mounting is shipped installed on the actuator including the magnetic array.

a Camex valve?
A: Yes.
Q: Are all the sizes, pressure classes, and ange ratings offered by the
Camex valve available with a Fisher Vee-Ball valve?
A: Yes, plus the 16” and 20” sizes not available in a Camex valve.
4
Q: Does Emerson offer a digital positioner like the Camex valve does?
3
A: Yes, Fisher FIELDVUE DVC2000 or DVC6200 digital valve controllers.
Q: Does the Fisher valve offer the same material selections as Camex

valve?
A: Yes.
Q: Does the Fisher valve offer the same linear control as the Camex
valve?
A: No, the Fisher Vee-Ball valve will provide a better controllability with
its equal percentage ow characteristic of a segmented ball valve.

relief valve sizing is still correct?
A: Yes, the newly designed internal travel stop in the Fisher 1068
actuator has been designed to reduce the travel of the Vee-Ball valve to match that of the Camex product.
Q: Does the proposed offering cause any changes to the piping and
instrumentation diagram (P&ID)?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change process chemistry,
technology, or operating and control philosophies?
A: No, with the equal percentage ow characteristic versus the linear
Camex valve, operations should have overall better process control.
Q: Does the proposed change how the existing plant is operated?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed modication change the process ow rates?
A: No.
Q: Have the codes and standards to which the equipment was designed

to changed?
A: No.
5
Q: Will the operating and design conditions (ow, temperature,

pressure) of my line change because of this change?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed change modify the materials of construction such
as a change in material form (cast, forged, or alloy)?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed change effect operator training requirements?
A: No.
Q: Does the proposed change introduce new equipment, instruction
manuals and maintenance training?
A: Yes, see the appropriate product Instruction Manuals.
