Turning On the Printer

To use the printer, turn it on by pressing the power switch to the “I” position. Printing is enabled after the printer performs a self-diagnostic test to check the status of the printer and any options installed.

IMPORTANT

Do not turn on the printer again immediately after turning off the power. Turn on the printer after at least 3 seconds have passed since turning off the power.

NOTE

It may take time to bring the printer online when the power is turned on for the first time after installing the hard disk, or when there are errors found on the hard disk, as the hard disk is formatted after the power is turned on. (LBP-2810 only)

1 Press the power switch to the “I” position.

The indicators and the LCD display on the control panel are turned on. Then, the printer performs a self-diagnostic test to check the status of the printer and any options installed.

If the printer is connected to a network, make sure that the printer is not printing data from another personal computer before turning off the power.

If the power is turned off while the indicator is on, the print data remaining in the memory of the printer and the print data being spooled in the hard disk are erased (except for the data stored in the box). Press [ ] and then select [ ] to

output any important print data, or wait until printing is complete, before turning off the power. (P. 65)

-When the message that NVRAM is initializing or writing data is displayed.

-When the message that Flash Memory is initializing or deleting data is displayed. (LBP2810 only)

-When the message <02 > or <02 > is displayed.

If the printer has the hard disk installed, make sure that the HDD indicator is not on. If the power is turned off while the HDD indicator is on (the hard disk is reading or writing data), the hard disk may be damaged and become unusable. (LBP-2810 only)

Printable Paper

The printer can use the following types of paper. indicates that both single-side and duplex printing can be performed, indicates that only single-side printing can be performed, × indicates that printing can not be performed.

IMPORTANT

Be sure to load paper in the portrait orientation when you load B5-, A5-, Executiveor custom-size paper into the paper tray.

IMPORTANT

Do not use the following types of label sheets. If a sheet type that does not conform to specifications is used, this may cause hard to clear paper jams or a printer malfunction.

-Sheets with labels that are likely to peel off, or sheets on which some of the labels have been used.

-Coated sheets that can easily peel off from the backing sheet.

-Label sheets with some adhesive surfaces exposed.

LBP/recommended)

*You cannot use envelopes

with a flap along the short edge.

IMPORTANT

Never use the following types of envelope. If envelopes that do not conform to specifications are used, this may cause hard to clear paper jams or a printer malfunction.

-Envelopes with fasteners or snaps.

-Envelopes with windows.

-Self-adhesive envelopes.

-Envelopes with wrinkles or creases.

-Envelopes with very irregular thickness at the folds or overlaps.

-Envelopes with irregular shapes (not rectangle).

Press the envelopes with your hands to expel any air pockets, and then press down on the edges before loading them into the paper tray.

Do not print on the back (adhesive surface) of envelopes.

Printing from the Paper Cassette

Procedures for loading paper into paper cassette 1, which is supplied with the printer, and paper cassettes 2, 3, and 4, in the optional paper feeder unit, are the same. You can load different paper sizes into each cassette and switch between these paper cassettes for paper sources automatically.

Follow the procedure described below to load paper into the paper cassette.

IMPORTANT

To avoid paper jams, note the following precautions.

-Do not use print media other than plain paper (64-105 g/m2), such as transparencies, label sheets or envelopes. For details about what kind of paper can be used, see “Paper Requirements,” on P. 9.

-Never use paper that has fins, or paper that is wrinkled or extremely curled.

-Refill the paper cassette with paper after the loaded paper has run out. Refilling the paper cassette with paper before paper has run out may lead to problems when feeding paper into the printer.

-You can load up to 500 sheets of plain paper (64 g/m2). Never stack paper in the paper

cassette higher than the limit guide. This may cause a paper feed failure.

-Do not touch the paper feed roller or black rubber part of the paper cassette. This may cause a paper feed failure.

Loading Standard-Size Paper
