Breville recommends safety first

We at Breville are very safety conscious. We design and manufacture consumer products with the safety of you, our valued customer, foremost in mind. In addition, we ask that you exercise a degree of care when using any electrical appliance and adhere to the following precautions:

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

Read all instructions

Carefully read all instructions before operating and save for future reference.

To protect against fire, electrical shock and injury to persons do not immerse the appliance, cord or plug in water or any other liquid.

Always use the kettle on a dry level surface.

Do not leave the appliance unattended when in use.

When using this appliance, provide adequate air space above and on all sides for circulation.

On surfaces where heat may cause a problem, an insulating mat is recommended.

Do not place this appliance on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or where it could touch a heated oven.

Do not touch hot surfaces. Use the handle or button.

Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally. Do not let the cord touch hot surfaces or become knotted.

This appliance is not intended for use near or by young children or infirm persons without supervision.

Young children or infirm persons should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with or misuse the appliance.

Always remove the plug from the power outlet before attempting to move the appliance, when the appliance is not in use, before cleaning and storing.

Do not use harsh abrasives, caustic cleaners or oven cleaners when cleaning this appliance.

Do not use this appliance for other than its intended use.

Do not use outdoors.

Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “off,” then remove plug from wall outlet.

Scalding may occur if the lid is removed/opened during the boiling cycles.

Regularly inspect the supply cord, plug and actual appliance for any damage. If found damaged in any way, immediately cease use of the appliance and call Breville Customer Service at 1-866-BREVILLE.

No user-serviceable parts inside.

Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

Your Breville appliance comes with the unique Assist™ Plug, conveniently designed with a finger hole in the power plug, for easy and safe removal from the outlet. For safety reasons it is recommended you plug your Breville appliance directly into the power outlet. DO NOT use in conjunction with a power strip or extension cord.

Note

ELECTRIC CORD STATEMENT

Your kettle has a short cord as a safety precaution to prevent personal injury or property damage resulting from pulling, tripping or becoming entangled with the cord. Do not allow children to be near or use this appliance without close adult supervision. If you must use a longer power cord or an extension cord when using the appliance, the cord must be arranged so it will not drape or hang over the edge of a countertop, tabletop or surface area where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over. To prevent electric shock, personal injury or fire, the electrical rating of the extension cord you use must be the same or more than the wattage of the appliance (wattage is marked on the underside of the appliance).

UNPLUG FROM OUTLET WHEN NOT IN USE AND BEFORE CLEANING. ALLOW TO COOL BEFORE PUTTING ON OR TAKING OFF PARTS, AND BEFORE CLEANING THE APPLIANCE.

THE USE OF ACCESSORY ATTACHMENTS NOT RECOMMENDED BY THE APPLIANCE MANUFACTURER MAY CAUSE INJURIES.

FULLY UNWIND THE CORD FROM THE CORD STORAGE FACILITY BEFORE USE.

Operating your Breville Ikon Cordfree Kettle

Before first use

Remove any promotional material attached to your kettle. It is recommended that before the first use the kettle is filled to the maximum level, boiled and water discarded. Your kettle will only operate when positioned on the power base with the On/Off switch in the On position. The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled.

Operation of your kettle

1.To fill the kettle, remove it from the power base and open the lid by pressing the lid release button. Fill with the desired amount of water. Always fill the kettle between the minimum and maximum marks on the water window. Too little

water will result in the kettle switching off before the water has boiled.

2.Ensure that the lid is locked firmly into place. Place the kettle firmly onto the power base. Plug the power cord into 110V power outlet.

3.Press the On/Off switch to the ‘On’ position. The power ‘On’ light and the water guage will illuminate.

Always fill the kettle between the minimum (Min) and the maximum (Max) marks on the exterior of the kettle. Too little water will result in the kettle switching “Off” before the water has boiled. Filling above the maximum mark on the exterior of the kettle may result in boiling water splashing from the kettle.

Note

This kettle must only be used with the power base supplied. Use caution when pouring water from your kettle, as boiling water will scald. Do not pour the water too quickly.

Note

The kettle will automatically switch ‘Off’ once the water has boiled. Lift the kettle from the power base and pour the water. Take care to hold the kettle level, especially when filled to the maximum level. To re-boil it may be necessary to wait for a few seconds to allow the control to reset.

The kettle may be stored on its power base when not in use. Remove the power cord from the power outlet.

Safety boil dry protection

The kettle is fitted with a safety device, which protects against overheating should the appliance be operated with insufficient water. If this occurs the kettle will stop heating. Switch ‘Off’ at the power point and allow kettle to cool before refilling. The safety device will automatically reset when the kettle has cooled down.

For additional safety your kettle is fitted with an additional thermal cut out. In the event of overheating, the kettle will automatically shut down to prevent further damage. Should this occur, take your kettle to an authorised Breville Service Center.

THIS APPLIANCE IS DESIGNED FOR THE BOILING OF DRINKING QUALITY WATER ONLY, NEVER USE IT TO HEAT OR BOIL ANY OTHER LIQUIDS OR FOODSTUFFS. THE LID SHOULD ALWAYS BE FIRMLY IN PLACE AND LOCKED CLOSED BEFORE USE.

Care and cleaning

Always switch off at the power outlet, and then unplug the appliance from the power outlet before cleaning.

Removable filter

The Ikon Cordfree kettle features a removable mesh filter to filter out scale deposits for cleaner water. To remove the scale deposits remove the filter by opening the lid and lifting up and out of the kettle. The filter can be cleaned by running under hot water and rubbing with a cleaning cloth or brush.

To replace filter, simply slide the filter down into the slot behind the spout of the kettle.

Removal of mineral deposits

Mineral deposits in tap water may cause the kettle interior and water gauge to discolour over time. This may be removed by using a proprietary kettle descaler which is available from most leading supermarkets, department stores and hardware stores.

Alternatively:

1.Fill the kettle until 2/3 full with 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Boil and allow to

stand overnight.

2.Empty the solution from the kettle. Fill the kettle with clean water, bring to boil and discard the water. Repeat and the kettle will be ready for use.

To clean the exterior

The outside of the kettle may be wiped over with a damp cloth and polished with a soft dry cloth.

Do not use chemical, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners to clean the outside of the kettle.

Note

NEVER IMMERSE THE KETTLE BASE, SWITCH AREA, POWER BASE OR POWER SUPPLY CORD IN WATER, OR ALLOW MOISTURE TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THESE PARTS.
