Alcatel-Lucent Media Resource Function

R E L E A S E 7 . 1

The Alcatel-Lucent Media Resource Function (MRF) is a comprehensive software product, fulfilling the role of a powerful media server in packet-switched networks and allowing quick deployment of a range of value-added services.

The Alcatel-Lucent MRF can be used as either a standalone node to provide basic announcement services, or as a node for an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Long Term Evolution (LTE), CDMA, Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), next-generation network (NGN) or WiMax network. As the latter type of node, the product plays a key role in many media-related services:

Playing multilingual fixed and variable audio announcements

Playing video announcements

Collecting dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) for user interaction

Providing audio and video conferencing, selecting the video stream, with mixing of audio streams and coders/decoders (CODECs) transcoding

Performing legal interception, thanks to its media-stream duplication capability

The use of a full-software mediaprocessing technology provides a very competitive solution with reduced costs and reduced time-to-market

for feature improvements because no digital signal processors (DSPs) are used. The Alcatel-Lucent MRF is also a rich application-protocol solution that supports all major interfaces, including Network Announcement protocol (NETANN), Media Server Control Markup Language (MSCML), Media Session Markup Language (MSML), Alcatel-Lucent Media Session Markup Language AMSML and voice eXtensible Markup Language

(vXML) script.
