INTRODUCTION

Your Optimus AMX-10 Stereo Amplified Speakers are specially designed for use with computer multimedia systems. The speakers’ magnetic shield allows you to place them next to your PC’s monitor without causing picture distortion.

The speakers also transform your portable CD player or personal cassette player into a complete music system. The speakers are compatible with any audio source that has a 1/8-inch stereo headphone or line out jack.

Your speakers’ features include:

31/2-Inch Full-Range Speakers — give you excellent, wide-range sound.

Bass Boost and Treble Controls — let you adjust the speakers’ low and high frequency response to enhance the sound.

POWER SOURCES

You can power your speakers from internal batteries, standard AC power, or vehicle battery power.

Using Batteries

You can power the speakers from eight C batteries (four in each speaker). For the best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-651.

1.Press the tab on each speaker’s battery compartment cover, then lift off the cover.

2.Put four batteries into each speaker’s compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside the compartment.

Caution: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type.

3.Replace the cover.

Notes:

If you will not be using the speakers for a week or more, or if you will be using only AC or vehicle battery power, remove the batteries from each speaker.

If the speakers’ sound weakens or distorts, or the power indicator dims during use, replace all the batteries in both speakers.

Caution: Always dispose of old batteries promptly and properly.

Using AC Power

You can power your speakers from a standard AC outlet using a 12-volt AC adapter (not supplied), such as RadioShack Cat. No. 273-1653.

Cautions:

The recommended adapter supplies 12 volts DC power and delivers at least 600 milliamps. Its center tip can be set to positive, and its plug properly fits the right speaker’s DC 12V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the speaker or the adapter.

Always plug the AC adapter into the speaker before you plug it into the AC outlet. Always unplug the AC adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the speaker.

Follow these steps to use AC power.

1.Make sure POWER OFF/ON is set to OFF.

2.Plug the 5.5 mm outer diameter/ 2.1 inner diameter barrel plug into the AC adapter cord, matching TIP to positive (+).

3.Plug the adapter’s barrel plug into the DC 12V jack on the rear of the right (R) speaker.

4.Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet.

Note: Connecting an AC adapter automatically disconnects internal batteries.
