To eliminate or minimize the effectsofelectrical noise, firsttrytodeterminethe cause. Withthe boatat restin the water, the firstthing you shoulddois turn all electrical equipmentontheboatoff. Make certain the engine is off, also. Turn yourX-25on, thenturnoffASP(Advanced Signal Processing). Thereshouldbe a steady bottomsignal on the display. Nowturn on each piece of electrical

Ifyoufindnoiseinterferencefromanelectrical instrument, trollingmotor, pump, or radio, tryto isolate the problem. You can usually re-routethesonar unit's power cable and transducercable awayfrom the wiringthat is causing the interference. VHFradioantennacablesradiate noise when transmitting,

Whenno noiseappearsonthe sonarunitafterall ofthe above tests, thenthe noise source is probably cavitation, Many novices or persons with limited experiencemake hasty sonarinstallations which functionperfectlyin shallow water, orwhentheboatisatrest. Innearly allcases, thecause ofthe malfunction will be the location and/orangleofthe transducer. Theface ofthetransducer mustbe placedin alocationthat has asmoothflow ofwaterat allboat speeds.
