HOW YOUR KENMORE DEHUMIDIFIER OPERATES

The fan which has a permanently lubricated motor, draws moisture-laden air over a refrigerated evaporator coil which condenses the moisture and returns the treated, dry air to the room.

The automatic water overflow control stops the unit when the moisture collecting pan is full and

(on some models) a signal light reminds you to empty the pan. The unit starts again automatically when the pan is removed for emptying so be sure to replace the pan immediately.

A hose can be attached to the dehumidifier for continuous drainage of collected water. The automatic humidistat (on models so equipped) maintains your room at the desired degree of dryness.

BEFORE USING YOUR

KENMORE DEHUMIDIFIER

Electrical Requirements

It is best to use a separate 115-volts, 60 cycle, AC grounded, 15-ampere breaker or time delay fuse protected electrical supply. This will help to eliminate current fluctuation, which might cause compressor trouble.

Grounding Instructions

OBSERVE ALL LOCAL GOVERNING CODES

AND REGULATIONS.

Do not, under any circumstances, remove the power supply cord ground prong.

For your personal safety, this appliance must be grounded. This appliance has a power supply cord with a 3-prong grounding plug. To avoid possible shock hazard, the cord must be plugged into a mating 3-prong grounding-type wall receptacle, grounded in accordance with the Canadian or Provincial Electrical Code and local regulations. If a mating wall outlet is not available, it is your responsibility and obligation

to have a properly grounded 3-prong wall receptacle installed by a qualified electrician.

OPERATION OF YOUR

KENMORE DEHUMIDIFIER

WARNING: Do not use dehumidifier near highly volatile substances, such as gasoline.

(a)Allow the unit to warm to room temperature before operating.

(b)Your Kenmore Dehumidifier can be placed almost anywhere but don't block either end of the unit. The dehumidifier takes air from the back and blows it out from the front. So wherever you place it, be sure there's enough room for good air movement and moisture pan removal. Minimum recommended distance 4".

(c)Your dehumidifier can be operated in an out-of-the-way area and still effectively dry out adjoining areas. However, it is helpful to leave doors open between these areas so the moisture in the air can move from room to room.

(d)To dehumidify a specific area, close all doors and windows leading to that area.

ROOM TEMPERATURE

A Kenmore Dehumidifier will work most effectively at temperatures above 18°C (65°F). Refer to the performance chart on Page 6.

The coil of any dehumidifier can become blocked with ice at room temperatures below 18°C (65°F). Ice build up on the coil stops the air flow through the dehumidifier and it stops dehumidifying even though it keeps running.

2

Models with Frostguard™ De-icer Control

The Frostguard™ de-icer senses ice build up on the evaporator coil and automatically shuts off the compressor. The fan continues to run, drawing air across the coil and melting the ice. When the coil is defrosted, the Frostguard™ de-icer sensor restarts the compressor automatically. Refer to the performance chart, on the water pan operating temperatures at various relative humidity levels.

Models without Frostguard™ De-icer Control

If icing should occur, unplug unit until ice melts and room temperature is above 18°C (65°F).

"DONT’S" TO REMEMBER

1.Don't alter or change the plug on the power supply cord of your dehumidifier. Changes would make it unsafe, could cause serious damage to the dehumidifier, and might void this warranty.

2.Don't plug in the dehumidifier if you are in doubt about the grounding of your electrical system. Consult a qualified electrician first.

3.Don't use a lamp cord. If necessary use an approved grounded appliance extension cord with a maximum length of 6 ft. and minimum wire thickness of 14 guage.

4.Don't use a circuit that will become overloaded when the dehumidifier is added.

5.Do not sit or stand on the dehumidifier.
