Safety Instructions

Please read the following operation precautions before use:

∙TO PREVENT THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER (OR BACK). THERE ARE NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE THIS UNIT, PLEASE REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED HARMAN MULTIMEDIA CORPORATION SERVICE PERSONNEL.

∙Do not expose the speakers to liquid or solvent.

∙Never remove grille covers in order to service the speaker system. The speaker system does not contain any user serviceable parts. Refer all servicing to the Harman Multimedia Technical Support Group.

∙Do not expose the speaker system to temperature or humidity extremes, direct sunlight, excessive dust, or vibrations.

∙Place the speaker system on a stable, level surface. Do not drop, apply excessive force to the controls, or put heavy objects on top of the speaker.

∙If cleaning is required, use a soft dry cloth. If necessary, use a damp cloth without any solvents.

∙In order to protect the speaker system, avoid microphone feedback, continuous output from electronic musical instruments, or distorted output from any signal source.

∙Do not place the speakers close to fluorescent light sources, or neon light fixtures.

∙Although the speakers are magnetically shielded, keep magnetic storage media (disks and tapes) at least four inches from the speaker system in order to avoid data loss.

∙WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this speaker system to rain or moisture.

Introduction

The INVADER is the latest innovation from JBL, a long time leader in the manufacture of high-end component and computer audio systems. JBL’s audio heritage combined with continual research has provided the unique technologies included in the INVADER.

The Harman Multimedia PHOENIX SE transducer is a unique full range transducer designed specifically for small speaker enclosures while providing significant mid bass. In addition to the bass, the small, rigid and light inverted aluminum cone provides performance that will rival any tweeter used in multimedia speakers today. The result is an elegant satellite speaker that perfectly integrates with the subwoofer while providing superior midrange and highs.

The Magnum series subwoofer transducer provides deep bass. This Magnum series of subwoofers are designed specifically to match with the Harman Multimedia PHOENIX SE transducers. The same approach of providing solid bass from a small Subwoofer enclosure guided the development of these Magnum transducers.

As described in the Using the speaker system section of the user’s guide, the control knob on the front of the right satellite speaker controls the system volume level. Rotating the knob clockwise increases the system volume level.

Treble, Bass level adjust knobs are located on front of the subwoofer unit. A system on/off switch is also provided on the rear of the subwoofer unit. The system includes four desktop speakers and a subwoofer that can be placed either on the floor or on your desk. All satellite speakers are magnetically shielded to provide the greatest protection against computer monitor image distortion.

Setup

Carefully unpack your speaker system and identify all components:

Connect the speaker system as shown in the Connecting the speaker system to sound card illustrations. Once the speaker system is properly connected, turn on the power switch located on the rear of the subwoofer.

Step 1 Connecting the speaker system to the computer:

∙If you have an integrated sound solution or a stereo sound card; connect the green connector from the subwoofer into the green jack on the computer. Do not connect the Black connector to the sound card.

∙If you have a multi-channel sound card; connect the green connector from the subwoofer into the green jack on the computer. Connect the black connector to the black jack on your sound card.

∙If you have a portable computer; connect the green connector from the subwoofer into the headphone jack on the

computer. Do not connect the Black connector to the sound card.

Step 2 Plug the orange connector from the right front /control satellite into the orange jack on the subwoofer. Step 3 Plug the brown connector from the left front satellite into the brown jack on the subwoofer.

Step 4 Plug the blue connector from the Right rear satellite into the blue jack on the subwoofer. Step 5 Plug the white connector from the Left rear satellite into the white jack on the subwoofer. Step 6 Plug the AC plug into the wall outlet.

Step 7 Turn on the speaker set and adjust the volume accordingly.

Placement of speakers

The speakers are magnetically shielded and can be placed close to a computer monitor without distorting the image. For optimal stereo imaging, separate the speakers from each other by a distance equal to your distance from the speakers.

The subwoofer’s sound is non-directional; therefore, it does not have to be placed in any particular relationship to the satellites.

Using the speaker system

On/Off Switch

An on/off switch is located on the rear of the subwoofer.

There is a green LED located on front of the right satellite speaker. There is also a green LED located on the front of the subwoofer. Both LEDs should illuminate when the system is connected correctly and receiving power. Turn the speaker off if it will not be used for a long period.

Volume Control

The volume control can be found on the front of the control/right satellite speaker. Turning the control knob clockwise increases the system volume level. Turning the volume control knob counter-clockwise decreases the system volume.

Muting

Turning the volume control knob completely counter-clockwise mutes the system.

Controls on the Subwoofer

Treble

Bass

Bass - Turn the knob marked Bass clockwise to increase the subwoofer level or counterclockwise to decrease the subwoofer level.

Treble – Turn the knob marked Treble clockwise to increase the treble level or counterclockwise to decrease the treble level.

∙Placez les enceintes sur une surface stable et plane. Faites attention à ne pas les laisser tomber, ne forcez pas les commandes et ne placez pas d'objets lourds sur les enceintes.

∙Au besoin, nettoyez les enceintes avec un chiffon doux sec. Si nécessaire, utilisez un chiffon humide mais sans aucun solvant.

∙Pour protéger les enceintes, évitez le larsen, les signaux prolongés d'instruments de musique électronique ou les signaux distordus de quelque source que ce soit.

∙Ne placez pas les enceintes à proximité d'éclairages fluorescents ou au néon.

∙Bien que les enceintes soient pourvues d'un blindage antimagnétique, n'approchez pas les supports d'enregistrement magnétique (disques et bandes) à moins de 10 cm afin d'éviter des pertes de données.

Introduction

Le INVADER est la plus récente innovation de JBL, leader de longue date dans le secteur de la construction de composants et systèmes audio pour ordinateurs haut de gamme. La longue expérience de JBL dans le domaine de l'audio, alliée à un programme permanent de recherche, a donné naissance aux technologies exclusives utilisées dans le INVADER.

Le transducteur Harman Multimedia PHOENIX SE représente une autre technologie essentielle au INVADER. Ce transducteur unique pleine gamme a été spécialement conçu pour obtenir des basses moyennes substantielles avec des enceintes de très petite taille. En plus des graves, le cône inversé en aluminium rigide et léger donne des performances comparables à celles de n'importe quel haut-parleur aigu employé dans les enceintes multimédia actuelles. Le résultat : une enceinte satellite compacte et esthétique qui s'intègre parfaitement au subwoofer tout en produisant des un son de qualité supérieur dans les fréquences moyennes et hautes.

Le transducteur de subwoofer Magnum produit des basses profondes. Les woofers de série Magnum sont spécialement conçus pour fonctionner avec les transducteurs Harman Multimedia PHOENIX SE. La technologie utilisée pour obtenir des graves solides avec de petites enceintes a conduit au développement de ces transducteurs Magnum.

Comme l'indique la section Utilisation du système d'enceintes de ce guide, le bouton de commande sur l'avant du haut-parleur satellite de droite commande le niveau de volume de système. La rotation du bouton augmente dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre le niveau de volume de système.

Les réglages d'aigu, de grave sont situés sur le dessus du subwoofer. Un interrupteur marche-arrêt se trouve à l'arrière. Le système se compose de deux enceintes de bureau et d'un subwoofer qui peut être posé au sol ou sur le bureau. Les deux enceintes et le subwoofer sont pourvus d'un blindage magnétique assurant une protection maximale contre la distorsion des images affichées à l'écran.

Installation

Déballez le système d'enceintes avec précaution et identifiez tous les composants :

Effectuez les branchements du système d'enceintes comme indiqué aux figures Branchements du système d'enceintes sur la carte son. Une fois le système correctement branché, allumez-le au moyen de l'interrupteur situé à l'arrière du subwoofer.

∙Si vous utilisez une solution audio intégrée ou une carte son stéréo, branchez le connecteur vert de sortie du subwoofer sur le jack vert de l'ordinateur. Le connecteur noir n'étant pas utilisé, n'enlevez pas son capuchon en caoutchouc afin d'éviter le bruit statique du brochage de terre du système.

∙Si vous utilisez une carte son multivoies, branchez le connecteur vert de sortie du subwoofer sur le jack de l'ordinateur et le connecteur noir provenant de l'enceinte sur le jack noir de l'ordinateur.

∙Dans le cas d'un micro-ordinateur portable, branchez le connecteur vert provenant du subwoofer sur le jack casque de l'ordinateur. Le connecteur noir n'étant pas utilisé, n'enlevez pas son capuchon en caoutchouc afin d'éviter le bruit statique du brochage de terre du système.

Étape 2 Branchez le connecteur orange de l'enceinte de commande/droite sur le jack orange du subwoofer.

Étape 3 Branchez le connecteur marron de l'enceinte gauche sur le jack marron du subwoofer.

Étape 4 Branchez le connecteur bleu de l'enceinte droite arrière sur le jack bleu du subwoofer.

Étape 5 Branchez le connecteur blanc de l'enceinte gauche arrière sur le jack blanc du subwoofer.

Étape 6 Branchez le cordon d'alimentation sur une prise secteur.

Étape 7 Allumez le système d'enceintes et réglez le volume.

Placement des enceintes

Les enceintes étant dotées d'un blindage antimagnétique, elles peuvent être placées près d'un écran d'ordinateur sans causer de distorsion de l'image. Pour obtenir une image stéréo optimale vous devriez former un triangle équilatéral avec les enceintes.

Le son du subwoofer n'est pas directionnel et il n'est donc pas nécessaire de le placer dans une position particulière par rapport aux enceintes. Grâce à son blindage antimagnétique, le subwoofer peut être placé sur le bureau. S'il est placé trop près de l'écran, il risque toutefois de causer des vibrations de l’image.
