Congratulations on choosing Infinity KAPPA Series Loudspeakers. The instructions in this manual will help you realize the full potential of your loudspeakers.
UNPACKING
The packing materials of your KAPPA CENTER speaker are designed to protect the loudspeaker from any damage due to rough handling during shipment. We strongly suggest that you keep the packing material for future purposes, in case you move or if your loudspeakers should require service.
POSITIONING
Proper positioning of speakers within the listening room is of primary importance in order to achieve the best possible sound. Room reflections, furniture placement, heavy drapes, window reflections and so on can influence sonic quality, balance and the stereo image. It is essential to experiment with different locations to determine which placement offers the best overall balance and imaging. A center speaker must be placed in close proximity to the tv or projector screen and this obviously limits the flexibility of placement to a very large degree. The usual arrangement is to have the center speaker on top of the tv, or underneath the projector screen if one is in use. In the case of use with a projector screen, place the center speaker on a rigid stand to raise it from the floor.
If you have the flexibilty to choose different positions within the room for your tv or screen, take the opportunity to see what effect these different positions have on the sound quality of your center speaker. In general, you will find benefit from positions where the speaker is not in close proximity to large pieces of furniture or room corners.
MAGNETIC SHIELDING
The KAPPA CENTER has full magnetic shielding so that it can be used close to a tv without distorting the colour balance.
CONNECTIONS
Make sure all equipment is turned off before making connections.
To connect the KAPPA CENTER to the receiver or amplifier, use two conductor insulated wire. Your Infinity dealer can recommend suitable cables. We recommend 1.3 mm diameter (16 AWG) as a minimum size. If your speaker is more than 10 m (30 feet) from your receiver or amplifier, use larger diameter wire. Interconnects are an important component in an audio system. You may wish to audition and compare the performance of some of the specialty audio interconnects and speaker cable available from your dealer.
The red terminal on the loudspeaker should be connected to the red or (+) loudspeaker connection terminal on the amplifier (or receiver), and the black terminal on the loudspeaker should be connected to the black or (–) terminal on the amplifier. Most two-conductor wire is color-coded or has a ridge on one of its insulating jackets, so that you can easily identify which wire is connected to which terminal.

BI-WIRING
The KAPPA CENTER speaker can be bi-wired. Before bi-wiring, ALWAYS remove the metal bars between the high and low inputs. Bi-wiring will improve resolution and dynamics. For even greater improvement, you may use two amplifiers (bi-amping).
DANGER: LOW POWER
Generally, loudspeakers can withstand a great deal of power, as long as the signal is undistorted. You can safely use an amplifier or receiver with a power rating greater than a speaker system’s recommended power, as long as you don’t overdrive the amplifier. When amplifiers are overdriven, they “clip” the signal, creating distortion that appears as high energy high frequency signals. These distortion products are directed to the high frequency transducer by the crossover network, thereby creating a dangerous condition for the smallest driver in the system. The smaller the amplifier you use, the greater the danger of overdriving the amplifier or receiver, and consequently the greater the potential danger to the high frequency transducer. Further excessive boost by the amplifier or receiver’s tone controls can aggravate the situation. Our advice is always to use an amplifier or receiver that will make your KAPPA speakers play reasonably loud, and at the same time sound clean and undistorted.
CARE OF YOUR SPEAKER SYSTEM
Your Infinity speaker cabinets are in genuine wood veneer which requires very little maintenance. Dust the enclosures with a name brand furniture polish. The grilles may be cleaned by using a vacuum cleaner on the low power setting.
IN CASE OF TROUBLE IN YOUR STEREO SYSTEM
Before consulting your dealer, Infinity service facility or the Infinity distributor in your country, there are tests you can perform to locate and solve possible problems in your speakers. You can use your stereo system’s two channels of information for simple trouble-shooting. If the sound quality is distorted, listen to each speaker separately to check if the fault is present in both.
If it is, then the trouble is likely to be elsewhere in your system. If the fault is in one channel only, reverse the outputs of your amplifier to the speakers. If the distortion moves to the other channel, the fault is not in your speaker.
TROUBLESHOOTING THE SPEAKER
If a driver (tweeter, midrange or woofer) in your system is not working:
•Remove the driver from its enclosure and check to see if the wires are connected firmly on the driver’s terminals.
•If the wire has come loose, reconnect it and crimp it so it does not loosen again.
•If the connections are correctly made and the speaker still does not play, you may have a damaged or defective driver. Consult your dealer (see below).
SERVICE
Should your loudspeaker system ever need service, return it to the Infinity dealer from whom it was purchased. If for some reason this is impractical, contact your local Infinity Distributor.

Bitte lesen Sie diese Anleitung durch, bevor Sie mit der Aufstellung und der Verkabelung Ihrer neuen KAPPA CENTER-Lautsprecher beginnen! Wir raten Ihnen, das Verpackungsmaterial aufzubewahren. Gehäuseschäden, verursacht durch die Verwendung ungeeigneten Verpackungsmaterials, werden nicht kostenlos repariert!
AUFSTELLUNG
Die korrekte Aufstellung der Infinity KAPPA CENTER-Lautsprecher ist wichtig, um die bestmögliche Wiedergabe zu erreichen. Raumreflexionen, Möbelaufstellung, schwere Vorhänge, Fensterscheiben u.ä. sind klangverändernde Faktoren. Grundsätzlich sollte die Schallrichtung von “schallhart” nach “schallweich” (z.B. Aufstellung vor einer Wand in Richtung Sitzgruppe) erfolgen. Stellen Sie den Center mindestens einen Meter vor eine Wand - stellen Sie ihn nie in eine Raumecke auf. Einen CenterLautsprecher sollten Sie stets in der Nähe des Fernsehers bzw. der Projektionsfläche des Videoprojektors platzieren. In den meisten Fällen kann man den Center auf dem Fernseher oder unter der Leinwand aufstellen. Sollten Sie für ihren Videoprojektor eine Leinwand verwenden, stellen Sie den Center auf einen kleinen Tisch oder einen Standfuß, damit der Boden die Schallwellen nicht so stark reflektiert.
Haben Sie die freie Wahl beim Platzieren Ihres Fernsehers bzw. der Leinwand (das ist sehr selten), dann sollten Sie mehrere Positionen für Ihren Center im Wohnraum ausprobieren. Generell gilt: Der Klang verbessert sich, wenn der Center nicht in der Nähe großer Möbelstücke und weit weg von Zimmerecken aufgestellt wird.
MAGNETFELD-ABSCHIRMUNG
Der KAPPA CENTER ist mit einer Abschirmung gegen die elektromagnetischen Felder im Inneren der Box ausgestattet. Somit stört er die korrekte Farbwiedergabe eines Fernsehers nicht.
ANSCHLUSS
Verwenden Sie zum Anschluß Infinity KAPPA CENTER-Lautsprechers Kabel mit mindestens 1,5 mm2 Querschnitt.
Achten Sie unbedingt auf die Einhaltung der korrekten Polarität (Plus + an Plus; Minus – an Minus). Der Pluspol des KAPPA CENTER und der meisten Verstärker/ Receiver ist mit der Farbe Rot gekennzeichnet. Ader des Kabels entweder durch Beschriftung und/oder Farbstreifen markiert.
Sollten Sie sich beim Verkabel verpolen, klingt der Bass dünn, und die einzelnen Instrumente sind nicht korrekt zu orten.
BI-WIRING
Alle KAPPA CENTER-Lautsprecher lassen sich im Bi-Wiring-Verfahren verkabeln. Bitte achten Sie darauf, dass auch das zweite Kabel so hochwertig wie das erste sein muss. Wenn Sie von dieser Möglichkeit Gebrauch machen wollen, entfernen Sie bitte die Leitungsstege zwischen den Anschlüssen für Hochtonund Tieftonzweig an der Lautsprecherbox. Im Bi-Wiring-Betrieb wird die Wiedergabe Ihrer KAPPALautsprecher noch detailreicher und gewinnt zusätzliche Dynamik, wobei Sie dafür entweder einen oder zwei Verstärker verwenden können (Bi-Amping).

CLIPPING
Infinity KAPPA Lautsprecherboxen sind hoch belastbar, und können so auch dynamisch anspruchsvolle Musik optimal wiedergeben.
Sie können selbstverständlich einen Verstärker/Receiver verwenden, dessen Leistungsabgabe größer als die der empfohlenen Endstufe ist (nur die RMSbzw. Sinus-Leistungsangabe spielt hier eine Rolle!).
Eher der Einsatz von zu schwachen Verstärkern birgt Gefahren in sich: Jeder Verstärker/Receiver hat seine Leistungsgrenze. Wird diese überschritten, entstehen hörbare starke Verzerrungen. Da diese Verzerrungen (Obertöne) ein Vielfaches der ursprünglichen Energie enthalten, werden in der Regel die Hochtöner als erstes zerstört - Schäden an den Mitteltonund/oder Baßlautsprechern sind allerdings ebenfalls möglich.
Solche Schäden sind nicht durch die Garantie abgedeckt!
Je schwächer ein Verstärker ist, desto größer ist die Clipping-Gefahr!
Die Verwendung von Loudness und/oder Klangreglern ist nur in Ausnahmefällen (alte oder schlechte Aufnahmen) sinnvoll.
Oftmals ist ein drastischer Anstieg der Verzerrungen die Folge – Clippinggefahr!
FEHLERBESEITIGUNG
Funktioniert eines der Lautsprecher-Chassis (Hoch-, Mitteltöner oder Subwoofer) nicht, gehen Sie bitte wie folgt vor:
•Schrauben Sie das Chassis ab, entfernen Sie es aus dem Gehäuse und kontrollieren Sie bitte, ob die Verbindungskabel zu den Anschlussterminals fest sitzen.
•Sollte ein Verbindungskabel abgerutscht sein, dann klemmen Sie es mit einer KrimpZange wieder fest – danach bitte nochmal kontrollieren und am Kabel wackeln.
•Sollten alle Verbindungskabel (jene im Lautsprechergehäuse und jene zum Verstärker/Receiver) korrekt angeschlossen sein und fest sitzen, dann liegt höchstwahrscheinlich ein Defekt vor. konsultieren Sie bitte Ihren Fachhändler.
PFLEGE
Die hochwertige Oberfläche Ihrer Infinity KAPPA CENTER Lautsprecher ist mit Möbelpolitur leicht zu pflegen. Bei Bedarf kann das Abdeckgitter abgenommen und mit einem Staubsauger gereinigt werden.
SERVICE
Sollte die Klangwiedergabe verzerrt oder gestört wirken, prüfen Sie zunächst ob dies auch über die anderen Lautsprecher Ihrer Anlage hörbar ist. Sollte dies zutreffen, ist wahrscheinlich der Fehler nicht in Ihren Lautsprechern zu suchen.
Ist die Störung nur auf dem Center wahrnehmbar, tauschen Sie diesen mit einem anderen Lautsprecher aus. Wandert der Fehler mit, sind Ihre Infinity KAPPA CENTER Lautsprecher nicht die Ursache.
Im Servicefall werden Sie sich an Ihren autorisierten Infinity Händler oder an den zuständigen Infinity Vertrieb.

EMBALLAGE
Le conditionnement de votre l'enceinte KAPPA CENTER a été réalisé pour la protéger de tout dommage qui pourrait résulter d’une manutention peu délicate ou du transport. Nous vous conseillons vivement de la conserver pour les déménagements ultérieurs ou pour d’éventuelles opérations de maintenance.
POSITIONNEMENT
Un positionnement correct des enceintes au sein de la pièce est de première importance pour obtenir le meilleur son possible. Les réflexions sur des murs réverbérants, l’emplacement du mobilier, l’existence de tentures ou rideaux épais, la présence de baies vitrées etc. peuvent influencer notablement la qualité du son, ou l’équilibre et la bonne restitution de l’image stéréo. Une enceinte centrale doit être placée à proximité du téléviseur ou de l'écran de projection, ce qui limite considérablement le choix de son emplacement. Habituellement, il est d'usage de la placer sur le téléviseur ou sous l'écran de projection. Dans ce dernier cas, elle doit être posée sur un socle ou support rigide et non à même le sol.
Si vous avez la possibilité de placer votre téléviseur ou l'écran de projection à différents endroits de la pièce, saisissez cette opportunité pour en constater les répercutions sur la qualité du rendu acoustique de l'enceinte centrale. De manière générale, il est préférable de l'éloigner du gros mobilier et des angles de la pièce.
BLINDAGE MAGNÉTIQUE
L'enceinte KAPPA CENTER est dotée d'un blindage magnétique qui permet de l'utiliser à proximité d'un téléviseur sans perturber la balance chromatique.
CONNEXIONS
Vérifiez bien que tous les appareils soient éteints avant d’effectuer les branchements. Pour brancher l'enceinte KAPPA CENTER au récepteur ou à l’amplificateur, utilisez un câble isolé, à deux conducteurs. Votre revendeur Infinity pourra vous conseiller sur les modèles adaptés, mais nous recommandons de toutes façons un diamètre supérieur à 1,3 mm (16 AWG), et même nettement plus si vos enceintes sont distantes de plus de 10 m de leur ampli ou récepteur. Le câblage est une partie importante des systèmes audio. Vous pouvez même légitimement souhaiter faire des essais comparatifs chez votre revendeur de différents ensembles ou types de câbles qu’il propose. La borne rouge de l’enceinte doit être reliée à la borne repérée rouge ou (+) de l’ampli (ou récepteur), et la noire à sa correspondante noire ou (-). De cette manière, les enceintes seront « en phase » et non en opposition.
La plupart des conducteurs pour haut-parleurs sont repérés soit par leur couleur, soit par la présence d’une gouttière ou d’une rainure sur le gainage d’un des deux fils. Cela permet d’identifier facilement le fil à connecter à chaque terminal.
BI-CABLAGE
Toutes les enceintes KAPPA CENTER possedent un double bornier HP autorisant le bi-cablage. Pour ce faire, il faut impérativement retirer les stapps en métal reliant les sections + et -. Bi-câbler vos enceintes KAPPA vous procurer un son plus detallé et plus dynamique, si vous utilisez un ou deux amplificateurs (bi-amplification).
