GENERAL WARNINGS
The following safety statements mu st be heeded wheneve r the vehicle is being operated, repaired, or ser-
viced. Safety decal identification infor mation is also inc luded beginning on page 4. Other specific saf ety state-
ments appear throughout t his manual and on th e vehicle.

• Battery – Explosive gase s! Do n ot smok e. Ke ep sparks and flame s aw ay fro m the v eh icl e and
service area. Ventilate when chargi ng or operating vehicle in an enclo sed area. Wear a full
face shield and rubber gloves when working on or near batte ries.
• Gasoline/Diesel – Flammable! Exp losive! Do not smoke. Keep sparks and flames away from
the vehicle and servic e area. Service only in a well-ventilated area.
• Do not operate engine in an enclosed area without proper ventilation. The engine produces
carbon monoxide, which is an odorless, deadly poison.
• This vehicle will not provide protection from lightning, flying objects, or other storm-related
hazards. If caught in a storm while driving this vehicle, exit th e vehicle and seek shelter in
accordance with applicable safety guidelines for your location.
ý W ARNING
• Follow the procedures exactly as stated in this manual, and heed all DANGER, WARNING , and
CAUTION statements in this manual as well as those on the vehicle.
• Do not leave children unattended on vehicle.
• Children requiring a ch ild safety seat must not rid e on the vehicle. Comply wit h state and local
laws pertaining to child safety .
• The driver and passenger must be restrained at all times with the safety belts provided to help
prevent injury in the event of sudden braking, collision, or roll-over .
• No more than one person pe r bucket seat at one t ime. No more than two persons per bench
seat at one time. Do not allow people to ride in any part of the ve hicle that is not equipped wit h
a seat and a safety belt. Do not allow a passenger to hold a child in his or her lap while the
vehicle is moving.
• Prior to leaving the vehicle u nattended or ser vicing the vehicle, se t the park brake, place the
Forward/Reverse handle in the NEUTRAL position, turn the key switch to the OFF position,
and remove the key. Chock the wheels when serv icing the vehicle.
• Improper use of the vehicle or failure to properly maintain it could result in decreased vehicle
performance, severe personal injury , or death.
• Any modification or change to the vehicle that affects the stability or handling of the vehicle,
or increases maximum vehicle spee d beyond factory specifications , could result in severe
personal injury or death.
• Check the vehicle for proper location of all vehicle safety an d operation de cals and ma ke sure
they are in place and are easy to read.
• For vehicles with cargo beds, remove all cargo befor e raising t he bed or se rvicing the vehic le.
If the vehicle is equipped with a prop rod, ensure that it is securely enga ged while bed is
raised. Do not close bed until all persons are clear of cargo bed area. Keep hands clear of all
crush areas. Do not drop cargo bed; lower gently and keep entire body clea r. Failure to heed
this warning could result in severe personal injury or death.

• Only trained technicians should service or rep air the vehicle. Anyone doing even simple
repairs or service should have knowledge and experience in electrical and mechanical rep air.
The appropriate instructions must be used when pe rforming maintenance, service, or
accessory installation.
• To avoid unintentionally starting the vehicle:
- Disconnect ba ttery cables, negative (–) cable first (Figure 1).
- Gasoline vehicles only: Disconnect th e spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
• Frame ground – Do not allow tools or other metal objects to cont act frame when
disconnecting battery cables or other electrical wiring. Do not allow a positive wire to touch
the vehicle frame, engine, or any other met al component.
• Wear safety glasses or approved eye protection when s ervicing the vehic le. Wear a full face
shield and rubber gloves when working on or near batteries.
• Do not wear loose clothing or jew elry such as rings, watches, chains, et c., when servicing the
vehicle.
• Use insulated tools wh en working near batterie s or electrical connectio ns. Use extreme
caution to avoid shorting of components or wiring .
• When servicing the vehicle with part of the vehicle on jack stands , do not operate the engine
with the Forward/Reverse handle in either the FORW ARD or REVERSE position. The all-wheel
drive system will engage any wheel(s ), front or rear, with traction.

GENERAL INFORMATION
This manual includ es operating procedures, m aintenance, an d regular ser vicing infor mation for all gas oline
and diesel HUV 4421-G and HU V 44 21-D ve hi cl es . All ope ra tin g pr ocedu res, maintenance, an d re gular ser-
vicing are identical unless otherwise n oted.
MODEL IDENTIFICATION The serial number of each vehicle is printed on a bar c ode decal mounted on the frame above the brake pedal
(Example: RC0601-12345 6) (Figure 3) . There is a lso a second serial number de cal mounted on the rear
body frame behind the fuel tank. The fuel tank must be removed to view this decal. See following NOTE.
NOTE: Hav e the vehicle serial num ber available when o rdering parts or making inquiries .

• Before al lowing any one to driv e the vehicle, make s ure the dri ver is fam iliar with all contro ls
and operating procedures.
• Do not tamper with the high idle speed setting on the diesel vehicle. Doing so wi ll void the
warranty , as well as damage the engine and other components, and could re sult in property
damage, personal injury , or death due to unsafe speeds.
• Do not shift the Forward/Reverse handle while the vehicle is in motion.
• Engine must be at idle before shifting the Forward /Reverse handle. Failure to do so may result
in injury to inattentive passengers and (or) damage to the vehicle.
• To avoid unintentionall y starting or ro lling the veh icle, set the park brake, p lace the Forw ard/
Reverse handle in the NEUTRAL position, turn the key switch to the OFF position, and remove
the key when leaving th e vehicle.

KEY SWITCH – GASOLINE VEHICLES
The key switch (7) is mounte d on the instrument panel to the righ t of the steering column (Figure 4, Page 11) .
It has three positions: OFF , ON, and STAR T .
T o start the vehicle, plac e the Forward/Reverse handle in the NEUTRAL posi tion and turn the key to the
STAR T posi tion, and h old it th ere un til the engine starts. Activate th e chok e (14) a s neces sary. If the engine
does not start after 10-15 secon ds, release the key and repe at the procedure. Once th e engine starts, release
the key and it will return to the ON position. The engine will idle in neutr al.The engine will co ntinue to idle until
the key is turned to the OFF positi on. See following WARNING , CAUTION, and NOTE.
ý W ARNING
• Moving parts! Keep clear of the engine c ompartment while the engine is r unning.
CA UT ION
• Do not shift the Forwar d/Reverse handle wh ile the accelerato r pedal is pressed. Shift the
handle only when the vehicle is at a complete stop and the engine is at idle. Failure to heed
this caution could result in damage to the transmission.
NOTE: T he key can be removed only when the ke y switch is in the O FF position.
KEY SWITCH – DIESE L VEHICLES
The key switch (7) is mounte d on the instrument panel to the righ t of the steering column (Figure 5, Page 11) .
It has four positions: PRE HEAT , OFF , ON, and START .
Use the PREHEAT feature if the temperature falls be low 23 °F (–5 °C). Do not hold th e key in the PREHEAT
position longer than 20 s econds. T o preh eat the glow plugs in cold wea ther, turn the key to the PREHEAT
position, and hold it there fo r 10 -1 5 se co nds . Then turn the ke y to the START position, and hold it there un til
the engine starts. If the engine d oes not start after 10-15 seconds , turn the key to the OFF pos ition and repeat
the procedure. Once the engine starts, release the k ey and it will return to th e ON position. The eng ine will idle
in neutral. The engin e will continue to idle until t he key is turn ed to the OFF po siti on. See previ ous WARN-
ING , CAUTION, and NOTE.
FORWARD/REVERSE CONTROL The Forward/Reverse han dle (6) is located on the righ t side of the instrument panel (Figure 4 and Figure 5,
Page 11). The handle has three disti nct pos it ion s: FORWARD (A), NEUTRAL (B), a nd REV ERS E (C ). P us h
the handle up to operate the vehi cle in the forward directio n, or pull the handle down to opera te the vehicle in
reverse. The engin e can be started only when the handle i s in the NEUTRAL (mi ddle) pos ition. The engine
must be at idle befo re shifting the Forwar d/Reverse handle. Se e WARNING and CAUTION on page 12.
This vehicle opera tes at a redu ced spee d in rever se. The r everse buz zer will sou nd as a wa rning whe n the
Forward/Reverse han dle is in the REVERSE position.
ACCELERATOR PEDAL The accelerator pedal ( 1) is the pedal farthes t to the right (Figure 4 and Figure 5, Page 11) .
With the engine running and the Forward/R everse handle in the FORWARD or REVERSE position, ve hicle
speed will increase a s the accelerator pedal is pressed. When the a ccelerator pedal is rel eased, it will retur n
to the original posi tion and the engine will idle. See WARNING and CAUTION on page 12.

BRAKE PEDAL The brake pedal (2) i s located to the immediate l eft of the accele rator pedal (Figure 4 and Figure 5, Page
11). T o slow or stop the vehicle , press the brake pedal .
PARK BRAKE The park brake pedal (3) is located to the l eft of the brake pedal (Figure 4 and Figure 5, Page 11) . T o engage
the park brake, first apply pressu re to the brak e pedal , then fi rmly p ress the park brake p edal u ntil i t latches
into place. T o disengage the park brak e, pull the park brake r elease handle (4) (Figure 6). See follow ing
WARNING .
ý W ARNING
• The park brake has multiple locking positions a nd should be firmly locked to prevent the
vehicle from rolling.
STEERING ADJUSTMENT LOCK The steering wheel positi on is adjustable. T o ad just the ste ering wheel pos ition, pr ess down on th e steering
adjustment lock lever (5), then move the steering wheel to the desi red position
(Figure 4 and Figure 5,
Page 11). While holding the steering whe el in the desired positi on, pull up on the steer ing adjustment lock
lever to firmly loc k the steering column i n position. See following WARNING .
ý W ARNING
• Ensure that the steering wheel lock is fully engaged before operating the veh icle .
12-VOL T ACCESSORY OUTLET The 12-volt accessory outlet (11) is located to the right of the key switch (Figure 4 and Figure 5, Page 11) . It
provides a constant 12 VDC with the key switc h in the ON or OFF po sition. See following NOTE.
NOTE: Ex tended use of this ac cessory outlet ca n cause the battery to bec ome heavily disc harged.

LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT The low oil warning li ght (9) is located o n the instrument panel just to the left of the stee ring column (Figure 4
and Figure 5, Page 11). If the warning light lights up, oil should be checked and added to th e engine as nec-
essary before vehic le use continues. T he vehicle should ne ver be driven when th e low oil warning ligh t
remains lit. If the warni ng light alternately lights and darkens, the vehicle may be driven, but oil should b e
added at the first opportunity. If the oil level is correct and the war ning light remains lit, have a train ed techni-
cian check the v ehicle. See following CAUTION.
CA UT ION
• Failure to add oil immediately w hen the low oil warning light remains lit may result in
permanent engine damage.
FUEL GAUGE/HOUR METER The fuel gauge and hour meter (8) are hou sed together on the right sid e of the instrument panel (Figure 4
and Figure 5, Page 11). The fuel gauge operates when the k ey switc h is in the ON position and allows th e
operator to monitor th e fuel level in the vehicle. The ho ur meter operates onl y when the engine is running, and
should be used by th e tr ai ned techn ician to track ve hic le usag e an d d etermine when period ic s ervi ce proc e-
dures are required. See Periodic Service Schedule on page 29.
HEADLIGHT CONTROL The headlight control ( 12) is located on the left side of the instru ment panel (Figure 4 and Figure 5, Page 1 1) .
Press the headlight rocker switch to turn th e headlights on or off. See following NOTE.

ELECTRIC BED LIFT V ehicles with Electric Bed Lif t Option
The electric bed lift switc h (13) is loca ted on the instr ument panel to the left of the key s witch (Figure 4 and
Figure 5, Page 11). See following NOTE.
NOTE: Rem ove cargo before rais ing the bed.
T o lift the bed, p ush up and hold the rocker switch in the upper positio n. Release the switc h to stop the lifting
operation. T o close the bed, press down and h old the switch in the lo wer position. The bed lift will make a loud
clicking sound to signal that the bed i s in the rest posit ion.
HIGH-T EM PERATURE WARNING LIGHT (DIESEL VEHICLES ONLY) The high-temperature w ar nin g l ight ( 10) is l oc ated on th e i nstru men t panel to the le ft of the s teer ing c ol umn ,
next to the low oil warning ligh t (9) (Figure 5, Page 11) . The diesel engine is liquid-coo led; if the engine cool-
ant has exceeded its normal sa fe operating temp erature, the warnin g light will illumina te. If the warning light
lights up, stop the vehicle and allow it to idle for approximately fiv e minutes before stopping the engine. Con-
tact the dealer/distrib utor or a trained techn ician. See following WARNING .

• Allow the engine to cool before servicing the engine coolant system. Engine coolant can
cause severe burns.

ROLL-OVER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE AND SAFETY BELTS HUV 4421-G and HUV 4421-D v ehicles are equipped with a Roll-Over Protective S tructure (ROP S) and
safety belts for each occupant. S ee following WARNING .
ý W ARNING
• The ROPS must be properly instal led before operating the vehicle. Husqvarna strongly urges
that the vehicle’s occupants be properly restrained at all times with the safety belts provide d.
Pregnant woman: Consul t your doctor for spec ific recommendatio ns. The safety belt shou ld be worn securely
and as low as possi ble over the hips and not on the waist.
Injured person: Depe nding on the injury, first check with your doctor for specific recommendations.
T o secure the safety belt, sit up straight and well back in the se at. Pull the safety belt out of the retractor and
insert the tab into the buckle. A click wil l be heard when the tab locks into the buckle. Position the lap bel t as
low as possible on t he hips – not on the wais t.
The retractor will lock the belt during a sudden stop. It also may lock if the occupant leans forward too quickly.
A slow, easy motion will allow the belt to extend, and the occupant ca n move freel y. If the safety belt cannot
be pulled out of the retractor, firmly pull the belt and release it. It should then pull s moothly out of th e retractor.
T o release the safet y belt, press the buckle release button (1) and all ow the belt to retract (Figure 7) . If the
belt does not retract smooth ly , pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remain s free of twists
as it retracts.
ý W ARNING
• Do not operate the vehicle with the ROPS removed. Doing so could result in property damage,
personal injury , or death.
• Do not remove or modify any component of the ROPS structure. Doing so will result in
voiding the ROPS certification and could weaken the ROPS, resulting in serious injury or
death.
• Do not operate the vehicle if the ROPS is damaged. If the ROPS is damaged, replace the
structure. Do not attempt repair .
• The driver and passenger must be restrained at all times with the safety belts provided to help
prevent injury in the event of sudden braking, collision, or roll-over .
• In the event of a roll-over, do not attempt to jump or otherwis e exit the vehicle. Remain seated
with safety belt fasten ed and with arms and leg s inside the vehicle.

• After inserting the tab, make sure the tab and buckle are locked and that the belt is not
twisted.
• Loose fitting safety belts could incr ease the chance of injury due to sliding under the belt if
sudden braking should occur . Keep the safety belt snug and positioned as low on the hip
bone as possible.
• Use a single safety be lt for one person at a time. Do not us e a single safety belt for two or
more people – this includes children.
• No more than one person pe r bucket seat at one t ime. No more than two persons per bench
seat at one time. Do not allow people to ride in any part of the ve hicle that is not equipped wit h
a seat and a safety belt. Do not allow a passenger to hold a child in his or her lap while the
vehicle is moving.
• This vehicle is not design ed t o meet chi ld seat c ompatibility req uir ements. Children re qui ring
a child safety seat mus t not ride on the vehicle. Comply with state and local laws pertaining to
child safety .
ý CAUTION
• Be careful not to damage the safety belt webbing or hardware.
• Inspect the safety belt sys te m period ica lly. Check for cuts, fraying, and loose parts. Damaged
part s should be re placed immediately . Do not disassemble or modify the system.
• Keep safety belts clean and dry. If cleaning is necessary, use a mild soap and lukewarm water
solution. Do not use b leach, dye or abrasive cl eaners as they may seve rely weaken the saf ety
belts.
• Do not insert coins, clip, etc. in the bu ckle as this may pre vent the tab from locking into the
buckle properly .
• If the safety belt does not function normally , contact your dealer/distributor or trained
technician immediately. Do not occupy the seat un til the safety belt is repaired.
SEAT LATCH AND ADJUSTMENT The vehicle seat(s) are hi nged to allow easy access to the engine compartment. To raise the seat bottom,
grasp the rear side of the seat bo ttom, and pull firmly in a forward/ upward dire ction. Se e following WARN-
ING .

• Make sure seat hinges and latches are securely engaged before operating the vehicle.
Vehicles with bucket seat option:
The driver-side bucket se at is adjustable and can be moved forward or back ward to accommodate the driver.
T o adjust this seat, push th e lever located un der the driver seat to the left (towar ds outside of the ve hicle).
Position the seat , and return the lever to its original position . See following WARNING .

1. Remove the seat from the v ehicle.
2. Remove the four bolts and was hers from the bottom o f the seat mounting plate .
3. Align the mounting plate holes with holes i n the seat to achieve t he desired seat posi tion.
4. Install washers and bol ts, and tighten to 96 in-lb (10.8 N·m).
5. Install the seat. See precedi ng WARNING “Make sure seat hinges and latch...”
PRE-OPERATION AND DAILY SAFETY CHECKLIST Each vehicle has bee n thor oughly in spect ed and adju sted a t the factor y; h owever, upon receiv ing yo ur ne w
vehicle(s), you sh ould become familiar with the controls, in dicators, and operation. Carefully in spect each
vehicle to ensure that it is in proper working condition be fore accepting deli very.
Use the following list as a guide to inspe ct the veh icle. Th is list s hould be used dai ly and in conj unction wit h
the Performance Ins pection and the Peri odic Service Sched ule on page 29 to ensure that t he vehicle is in
proper working condi tion. Any problems should be corrected b y a dealer/distributor or a trained technic ian.
• General: All the parts should be in plac e and properly installed. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, and screws
are tight. Check hose clights for tight fi t.
• Safety and information decals: Check to ensure that all safety and informati on decals are in place
and can be read easi ly. S ee p ages 4 through 5.
•R O P S : Check to ensure the RO PS is not damaged and all hardware is secure. See Roll-Over Protec-
tive Structure and Safety Belts on page 15.
• Safety be lts: Visually inspect f or cuts, fraying, and loos e parts. See Roll-Over Protec tive Structure
and Safety Belts on pa ge 15.
• Tires: Check for proper tir e pressure. Visually inspec t tires for wear, damage, and proper inf lation on a
daily basis. Se e Vehicle Specifications on page 51 .
• Battery: Check electrolyte to ensu re it is at the proper lev el (Figure 40, Page 47). C heck battery pos ts.
Wires should be tight and free of corrosion, and battery should be fully charged.
• Engine: Check for proper eng ine oil and coolant le vels and leaks. See Engine Oil on page 34. Check
air filter and replac e if necessary.
• Fuel: Check fuel level. See Fue ling Instructions on page 43. Check fue l tank, l ines, fu el ca p, pump ,
and fuel filters for fu el leakage. Drain water from the fuel filter (diesel ve hicle). See Draining Water
from Fuel Filter on page 45.
• Exhaust system: Check for leaks.
• Hydraulic brakes: Check f luid level. Wear in the brakes before i nitial vehicle operation. On a flat, open
surface, accelerate the vehic le to moder ate speed , then apply the brakes under mo dest, steady pres-
sure. Repeat this pr ocedure five times. See following NOTE.
NOTE: Pe rform the wear-in procedur e when the vehicle has been in operation for less than a week, or
when the brake pads or roto r have been replaced.

PERFORMANCE INSPECTION After you have familiar ized yourself with th e vehicle controls and have read and un derstood the drivin g
instructions, take the vehicle for a test d rive.
Use the following list, i n addition to the Pre-Opera tion and Dail y Safety Check list, as a guide t o inspect th e
vehicle daily for pro per operation. Any pr oblems should be correc ted by a dealer/distr ibutor or a trained tech-
nician.
• Forward/Reverse shifter: Check for proper o peration. See Controls and Indicators on page 10.
• Brakes: Be sure the brakes function pro perly. When brake pedal is fully pressed un der moderate pres-
sure, the vehi cle should come to a smooth, strai ght stop. If the ve hicle swerves or fails to stop, ha ve
the brake system c hecked and adjus ted as required. When the brake p edal is fully pr essed under
heavy pressure, the pe dal should feel firm and the distance between the back of the pedal and th e
floorboard should be a mi nim um o f 1.25 inc he s (3.2 cm ). Br ake ad justment must be m ain tained s o th e
brake pedal cannot be pr essed to the floorboar d under any circums tance.
• Park brake: When lat ched, the park brake should loc k the wheels and hold the ve hicle stationary on an
incline of 20% or less.
• Reverse buzze r: The reverse buzzer sh ould sound as a warning when the F orward/Reverse handle is
in the REVERSE pos ition.
• Steering: The vehicle sh ould be e asy to steer and s hould not have any pla y in the steer ing wheel. B e
sure the steering wh eel adjustment leve r is securely lock ed into position.
• Accelerator: After starting the engin e with the key sw itch and pl acing t he Forwar d/Reverse handle i n
the FORWARD position, the vehicle shoul d acc elerate smoot hly to full speed as the accele rator p edal
is pressed. Whe n the pedal is relea sed it should ret urn t o the or iginal position , and the engin e shoul d
idle. This vehic le operates at a reduced speed in reverse .
• Governor: Check maximum vehicle spe ed. The vehicle shou ld operate in forward a t a maximum
speed of 25 mph (40 km/h) on a level sur face.
• General: Listen for any unusual noises suc h as squeaks or rattl es. Check the vehicle’s ride and perfor-
mance. Have a dealer or a trained technic ian investigate anythi ng unusual.
DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS ý W ARNING
• Only licensed drivers should be al lowed to drive the vehicle.
• Before al lowing any one to driv e the vehicle, make s ure the dri ver is fam iliar with all contro ls
and operating procedures.
• No one under the age of 16 years should be allowed to drive the vehicle.
• No more than one person pe r bucket seat at one t ime. No more than two persons per bench
seat at one time. Do not allow people to ride in any part of the ve hicle that is not equipped wit h
a seat and a safety belt. Do not allow a passenger to hold a child in his or her lap while the
vehicle is moving.
• Do not allow riders in the cargo bed.
• For night use, the vehicle must be equipped with headlights, ta illights, and reflectors.
