Pickup and feed assemblies

This section covers the major assemblies of the pickup and feed system: the transfer roller and the registration assembly.

For information about replacing the pickup roller, see Changing the pickup roller.

For information about replacing the separation pad, see Changing the printer separation pad.

NOTE

CAUTION

Transfer roller

It is important to make sure that the transfer roller needs to be replaced before removing it. Excess handling can cause additional damage.

1.Open the print-cartridgedoor and remove the print cartridge, seeReplacing the print cartridge.

2.Use needlenose pliers to release the transfer roller tabs at the end of the roller, near the right side of the printer.

Do not break the tabs and do not touch the rollers.

3.Lift up the end of the roller near the right side of the printer, and then slide it toward the right side of the printer while pulling it out of the printer.

Registration assembly

1. Remove five screws (callout 1).

2. Lift the entire assembly out of the printer.

Main gear assembly/tray 2 pickup solenoid

1.Remove all covers (see Covers).

2.Remove the fan from the printer chassis (see steps 3 and 4 of Fan).

3.Disconnect one cable (callout 1) at the ECU.

4.Remove the duplex-drivePCA from the printer chassis (see steps 3 and 4 ofDuplexdrive PCA).

5.Release the tab on the gear (callout 2) and slide the gear off of the shaft.

6.Remove the cables from the cable guide (callout 3).

7. Remove four screws (callout 4).

8. Pull the main gear assembly straight away from the printer.

9. To remove the tray 2 pickup solenoid, disconnect one cable (callout 5).

10. Remove one screw, and then lift the solenoid off of the printer.

Print-cartridgedoor

 

1. Use a flat blade screwdriver to gently pry the cartridge-doorarm off of theprint-cartridge

 

door.

 

Be careful not to break the tabs.

2. Remove two screws (callout 2).

3. Lift the cartridge-doorassembly straight away from the printer.

Wireless communications card

1.Remove the left-sidecover (seeLeft-side cover).

2.Release two tabs (callout 1) that secure the wireless communications card to the interlock assembly.

3. Turn the card over and then disconnect one connector (callout 2).
