Installation
λThis cooker must be installed by qualified personnel, according to the manufacturer’s instructions and to the relevant British
Standards.
• This cooker is heavy. Take care when moving it.
λAny gas installation must be carried out by a registered CORGI installer.
λRemove all packaging before using the cooker.
λEnsure that the gas and electrical supply complies with the type stated on the rating plate, located near the gas supply pipe.
λDo not attempt to modify the cooker in any way.
Child Safety
λThis cooker is designed to be operated by adults. Do not allow children to play near or with the cooker.
λThe cooker gets hot when it is in use. Children should be kept away until it has cooled.
λChildren can also injure themselves by pulling pans or pots off the cooker.
During Use
λThis cooker is intended for domestic cooking only. It is not designed for commercial or industrial purposes.
λWhen in use a gas cooker will produce heat and moisture in the room in which it has been installed. Ensure there is a continuous air supply, keeping air vents in good condition or installing a cooker hood with a venting hose.
λWhen using the cooker for a long period time, the ventilation should be improved, by opening a window or increasing the extractor speed.
λDo not use this cooker if it is in contact with water. Do not operate the cooker with wet hands.
λEnsure the control knobs are in the ‘OFF’ position when not in use.
λDo not store flammable materials such as oven gloves, tea towels etc. in the drawer.
λWhen using other electrical appliances, ensure the cable does not come into contact with the hot surfaces of the cooker.
λUnstable or misshapen pans should not be used on the hob burners as unstable pans can cause an accident by tipping or spillage.
λNever leave the cooker unattended when cooking with oil and fats.
λThis cooker should be kept clean at all times. A build-up of fats or foodstuffs could result in a fire.
λNever use plastic dishes in the oven or on the hob burners. Never line any part of the oven with aluminium foil.
λAlways ensure that the oven vent which is located at the centre back of the hob is left unobstructed to ensure ventilation of the oven cavity.
λPerishable food, plastic items and areosols may be affected by heat and should not be stored above the cooker.
λThe appliance (EK 5731 W/GR only) is fitted with a lid: this is designed as a dust cover when closed, and as a splash-back when open. Do not use for any other purpose.
λAfter using the cooker (EK 5731 W/GR only), the lid MUST NOT be closed until the hob and oven are completely cold. Do not use the lid to switch off the gas supply. The gas supply should always be turned off with the control knob. Always ensure that the lid is free of any soilage or spillage before opening it.
Service
λThis cooker should only be repaired or serviced by an authorised Service Engineer and only genuine approved spare parts should be used.
Environmental Information
λAfter installation, please dispose of the packaging with due regard to safety and the environment.
λWhen disposing of an old appliance, make it unusable, by cutting off the cable.

Operation
Hob burners
To light a burner, push in and turn the relevant control knob anticlockwise to maximum position. At the same time push the electric ignition button which is marked with a little spark. Then adjust the flame as required.
If the burner does not ignite, turn the control knob to zero, and try again.
When switching on the mains, after installation or a power cut, it is quite normal for the spark generator to be activated automatically.
To ensure maximum burner efficiency, you should only use pots and pans with a flat bottom fitting the size of the burner used (see table).

If you use a saucepan which is smaller than the recommended size, the flame will spread beyond the bottom of the pan, causing the handle to overheat.
As soon as a liquid starts boiling, turn down the flame so that it will barely keep the liquid simmering.
Take care when frying food in hot oil or fat, as the overheated splashes could easily ignite.
If the control knobs become difficult to turn, please contact your local Electrolux Service Centre.

Before the First Use of the Oven
Remove all packaging, both inside and outside the oven, before using the oven.
Before first use, the oven should be heated without food. During this time, an unpleasant odour may be emitted. This is quite normal.
Φ1. Set the oven function control knob to MAX.
2.Open a window for ventilation.
3.Allow the oven to run empty for approximately 45 minutes.
This procedure should be repeated with the grill function for approximately 5-10 minutes.

Using the Oven
• Always cook with the oven door closed.
•Stand clear when opening the drop down oven door. Do not allow it to fall open - support the door using the door handle, until it is fully open.
• The oven has four shelf levels, and is supplied with one shelf.
The shelf positions are counted from the bottom of the oven as shown in the diagram.
It is important that the shelf is correctly positioned as shown in the diagram.
•Do not place cookware directly on the oven base.
•When cooking in the oven (EK 5731 W/GR only), always leave the cooker lid open, in order to avoid overheating.

Hints and Tips
Condensation and steam
When food is heated it produces steam in the same way as a boiling kettle. The oven vents allow some of this steam to escape. However, always stand back from the oven when opening the oven door to allow any build up of steam or heat to release.
If the steam comes into contact with a cool surface on the outside of the oven, e.g. a trim, it will condense and produce water droplets. This is quite normal and is not a fault with the oven. To prevent discoloration, regularly wipe away condensation and also soilage from surfaces.
Cookware
•Use any oven proof cookware which will withstand temperatures of 250°C.
•Baking trays, oven dishes, etc. should not be placed directly against the grid covering the fan at the back of the oven, or placed on the oven base.
•Do not use baking trays larger than 30 cm x 35 cm (12 in x 14 in) as they will restrict the circulation of heat and may affect performance.
The effects of dishes on cooking results
Dishes and tins vary in their thickness, conductivity, colour, etc. which affects the way they transmit heat to the food inside them.
AAluminium, earthenware, oven glassware and bright shiny utensils reduce cooking and underneath browning.
BEnamelled cast iron, anodized aluminium, aluminium with non-stick interior and coloured exterior and dark, heavy utensils increase cooking and underneath browning.
Storage Drawer
The storage drawer is located underneath the oven cavity.
During cooking the storage drawer may
become hot if the oven is on high for a long period of time, therefore flammable materials such as oven gloves, tea towels, plastic aprons etc. should not be stored in the drawer.
Oven accessories such as baking sheets, will also become hot, therefore care should be taken when removing these items from the drawer whilst the oven is in use or still hot.
