To reduce the risk of electric shock or injury to persons, disconnect washer power cord before servicing the washer. If water is present in the washtub, spin and pump out before attempting to remove the drive bell.

TO INSTALL NO. 495P3 HUB AND SEAL KIT

IMPORTANT: Be sure the inner surface of the tub flange is clean of all foreign material before installing the new seal.

8.Apply a small amount of No. 27615P Sealant (supplied in kit) around theouter surfaceof the tub flange,Figure 2.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT allow sealant to get in contact with the flinger, Figure 2, as this could

prevent the flinger from keeping moisture out of the upper bearing.

ASSEMBLY

1.Refer to the appropriate service manual and removethe washtub and lint filter.

2.Remove the drive bell by following the instructions supplied in the No. 442P3 Drive Bell Seal Kit.

IMPORTANT: We recommend that both theseal seat and the seal head be replaced together. DO NOT replace only one of the two seals.

3.Remove the seal head from the hub,

4.Remove the large hex nut, Figure 1, using No. 237P4 Hex Wrench,

5.Remove the spline insert from the transmission tube and discard the old spline insert.

IMPORTANT: Use a new spline insert each time the hex nut is removed. DO NOT reuse the old

insert as the hex nut may loosen during operation.

6. Remove hub from splines on transmission tube.

NOTE: It may be necessary to use a gear puller to remove hub.

7. Remove the old water seal from the outer tub.

IMPORTANT: Use caution when removing old seal so as not to damage the tub flange or porcelain.

9.Apply a light film ofnon-stainingpetroleum jelly (such as Vaseline ®) to the bronze portion of the water seal and to the outer surface ofthe stainless steel sleeve,Figure 3.

IMPORTANT: Do not over lubricate!

10.Insert the stainless steel sleeveinto the water

seal from the bottom side of the seal,Figure 3, until the sleeve is flush with the bronze portion of the seal.

11.Leave the garter spring on the seal. Place the new seal over the outer flange (with the seal lip on outside of tub flange). Then press the seal into the tub flangeopening using moderate finger pressure.

12.Carefully apply a small amount of No. 27615P Sealant (supplied in kit) around the outer edge of seal and tub. (The area located just below the garter spring,Figure 3.)

IMPORTANT: Do not allow sealant to get in contact with the sealing surface of the water seal as it will cause a waterleak.

13.Lubricate the inner splines ofthe new hub assembly (suppliedin kit) with No. 27604P Anti-Seize compound,

14.Carefully place the new hub assembly on the splined transmission tube.

IMPORTANT: Firmly push hub down against the outer tub sealand hold in this position.

15.While holdirig the hub down. place the spline insert onto the transmission tube until it bottoms

against the hub. Then place the hex nut on the transmission tube (with the larger inside bevel on

the nut toward the spline insert), then tighten the nut.

IMPORTANT: Torque the hex nut downbetween 40 to 70foot pounds(54.23 to 94.91N-m).If torque wrench is not available, tap hex wrench with a hammer until hub turns or until nut willno longertighten.

NOTE: If a lint filter was originally used between the washtub and hub, then the lint filter must be used again when installing the washtub. Then continue on with step 16.

If a gasket was originally used between the

washtub and hub, then use the new gasket (supplied in kit) and install the gasket as follows:

a, Apply a small amount of non-stainingpetroleum jelly (such as Vaseline ®)to eachof tilesealing surfaces where washtub gasket will contact hub and the bottom of the washtub.

b.Carefully place the new washtub gasket, No. 27125, (supplied in kit) on hub.

NOTE: Be sure holes in gasket are aligned with bolt holes in hub and that all traces of the old

gasket are removed from the bottom of the washtub.

16.Install washtub by graspingthe top flange of the washtub and carefully lower washtub down onto the lint filter or gasket and hub.

IMPORTANT: Before setting tub into place, be sure bolt holes in washtub line up with holes in the lint filter or gasket and hub.

17.Secure washtub to hub using four cap screws previously removed.

IMPORTANT: Porcelain Washtub Models --Use

care when tightening cap screws to avoid chipping porcelain on the washtub.

19. Reinstall filler hose onto the backfiow preventer.

NOTE: When reinstalling the filler hose, the white line on the hose must be aligned with the center line of the backflow preventer, refer to service manual.

20.Install the seal seatl seal head, drive bell and

agitator by following the instructions supplied in the No. 442P3 Drive Bell Seal Kit.

21.Reinstall the cabinettop and front panel, referto service manual.

22.Turn the washer timer to the final spin, close the loading door, start the washer and let the washtub spin for approximately thirty seconds to one minute.

IMPORTANT: Step 22 is necessary to allow the

NOTE: When installing the outer tub cover, lubricate the cover gasket with liquid soap to aid assembly. Cover must be placed on outer tub so

notch on top edge of outer tub cover is directly over left front clip holes in tub, Figure 4. Starting

with this hole, place each spring clip in its respective hole and snap into place, refer to Figure 4 for proper clip installation.
