Thank you for purchasing the Altec Lansing Octiv Theater speaker system. This docking/charging speaker system delivers great sound, charges and docks your iPad in portrait or landscape orientation, and lets you show it off even when you’re not using it. While it was designed specifically to work with your iPad, it also docks, charges, and plays most iPhone and iPod models.

Please carefully read this User Guide for instructions on setting up and using your Octiv Theater speaker system.

Prior to installing or operating the Altec Lansing Octiv Theater speaker system, refer to the important product safety information.

Getting Started

Place your Altec Lansing Octiv Theater speaker system on a desk, bookshelf, counter, or other hard surface.

WARNING In order to prevent accidentally dropping your iPad, be sure to remove it from the docking station before picking up the speaker system.

How to Install the AC Adapter

1Connect the AC adapter cable plug into the speaker system’s jack.

The jack is located on the back of the system.

2Plug the AC adapter into the wall outlet.

WARNING Use of another AC adapter may damage the product. Use only the supplied AC adapter.

Getting Started

How to Connect the Full-FeaturedRemote Battery

The remote battery (included) is installed at the factory. However, there is a piece of plastic film inserted between the battery and the remote’s contacts to prevent the battery from draining during shipping. To remove this film, follow the steps below:

1Pull the battery holder out about halfway.

The battery holder is located on the lower end of the back of the remote. Use a fingernail to pull the latch toward the centerline of remote while using another

fingernail to simultaneously pull the battery holder out of the remote.

2Pull the plastic film out of the remote.

3Push the battery holder back into the

remote, making sure the battery stays in place.

You will hear and feel the latch click.

NOTE Please discard used batteries properly.

How to Dock Your iPad

1Place your iPad into position.

Slide your iPad between the tabs on the docking arm and toward the dock

connector. Line up your iPad’s connection port with the dock connector on the Octiv Theater speaker system.

2Connect your iPad into the Octiv Theater speaker system.

Push your iPad onto the speaker system’s connector fully. You will hear your iPad beep, as the connection is made.

NOTE Your iPad cannot be in a case.

How to Position Your iPad

1Raise your iPad to a comfortable viewing angle.

2Rotate the speaker system’s docking arm to choose between portrait and landscape viewing angles.

NOTE Use the Octiv Theater portrait (vertical) viewing angle to display your iPod and iPhone models. The Octiv Theater landscape (horizontal) viewing angle should only be used with iPad models.

How to Turn On Your Speaker System

1Make sure you have power to the unit.

Ensure the AC adapter is connected to the system and plugged into the wall.

See the Getting Started section for more information.

2Turn the unit on.

Press the button on either the speaker system or the remote.

How to Turn Off Your Speaker System

Turn off the unit.

Press the button on either the speaker system or the remote.

NOTE Whenever you are finished listening to your music or watching your video, please remember to turn off your speaker system and portable device to conserve electricity. After 10 minutes, the speaker system will automatically shut down.

How to Find Your Desired Song or Video

Use the remote to locate the song or video you want to enjoy.

Skip to the beginning of the current song or video.

Press the button on the remote.

Skip to the beginning of the next song or video.

Press the button on the remote. Rewind the currently playing song or video.

While a song or video is playing, press and hold the button on the remote. This gives youhigh-speedreverse search of the current song or video.

Fast-forwardthe currently playing song or video.

While a song or video is playing, press and hold the button on the remote. This gives youhigh-speedforward search of the current song or video.

How to Play/Pause Your Music or Video

The remote is capable of controlling playback on your iPad.

Begin playing a selected music track or video.

Press the button on the remote. Sound from your device will start playing through the speaker.

Pause the selected track or video.

Press the button again on the remote. The music or video will be paused.

How to Adjust the Volume

Turn up the volume.

Press the “+” button on the speaker system or the “VOL +” button on the remote until the desired volume is reached.

Turn down the volume.

Press the “–”button on the speaker system or the “VOL–”button on the remote until the desired volume is reached.

Mute the sound.

Press the “MUTE” button on the remote. To unmute the sound, press the “MUTE” button again.

How to Listen to Your iPad

1Dock your iPad in the Altec Lansing Octiv Theater speaker system.

2Turn on your speaker system.

3Find your desired song or video.

4Start playing your song or video.

5 Adjust the volume.

NOTE Whenever your iPad is docked, it is charging until fully charged.

How to Navigate the iPod Menu on Your iPad

In iPod mode, you can use the navigation keys on the remote to choose songs from your music library and videos from your video library:

Press the button to scroll up within a menu screen. Press thebutton to scroll down within a menu screen.

Press the “SELECT” button to make a selection within a menu.

The following buttons only work on most iPhone or iPod models:

Press the “MENU” button to enter the menu screen.

Press the “BACK” button to move back one level within a menu screen.
